Anthonys Seek Private Jail Visit With Casey

Of course it is. All that the A's are asking is that the video not be released to the public. Other inmates have videotaped visits - I'd be willing to bet that not one of those videos can be found online. The A's aren't asking for anything special or out of the ordinary. Just the opposite, they're asking for the same treatment everyone else gets.

HI chilly...
I would say you are right that none of the other inmates tapes ARE online, but they COULD be if anyone were to request them because that is what the Sunshine Law is all about. They are GETTING the very same treatment that everyone else gets, they want something MORE than everyone else gets. They want the law as it is written NOT to apply to them and to their daughter and it MUST. If they visit it will be recorded. If it is recorded according to the law if is requested on a Sunshine Law request then it MUST be released if it is not still part of the "ongoing investigattion". Remember, it took MONTHS for any video visit to make it public-it was not like they visited one day and the next day it was online. Proper protocol has been followed in each of those releases and I guarantee you it will be used in every one to come. Why should they be ENTITLED to a secret, non recorded visit when nobody else is?:waitasec:

I truly don't understand what the big deal is. The A's can request anything they want. They can request that they let Casey out of jail to await her trial at home, they can request that Casey have a computer in her cell or that she gets served fruit salad instead of coleslaw. They can ask for the moon, but it doesn't mean they are going to get it. I'm very sure inmates and their families request lots of interesting things...again, doesn't mean they get them.

Do I think this request should be granted....absolutely NOT, but I just don't think it's a big deal that they are asking.

Plain and simple. All inmates are recorded. It's done for a reason. So if they say anything, it can be used against them. The whole thing is monitored.

NO inmate is allowed to visit without following that situation.

I'm really sorry that Cindy made this a story that everyone wants to follow. It was smart when your dealing with a missing child. The more PR the better.

This is not the first time the Sunshine laws have bitten. They are NOT going to change it just because inmates can't have private visits. This is a minor bump. The Fl government officials would love to get rid of it. Since it forces them to show any of the documents, etc.. when requested.

No one is asking to have an unmonitored meeting. No one is asking for it not to be recorded, no one is asking for it to be private as in not heard by the authorities.

They are just asking that it not be released for everyone to watch. The only way it will be released and watched is if the media requests it.
I only have one question. Why will the media request a copy of this visit?

I say let them have a visit without putting the visit and every single word they utter in the media. I understand the need to have each prisoners visits taped and theirs can be taped but let them have some privacy from the public for a change. The only thing that their taped visits that are shown to the public do is add more fuel to the fire and give people more reason to rip them apart. No one is going to confess at their meeting...they just want some privacy as a family to visit without every word they utter analyzed.

Why are we still saying if we agree or not with the sunshine laws... IMO the question is do you think the Anthony's should be able to break the law.

Why are any of us here reading, JBean? If people were honestly bothered by the law, by the FREEDOM of information they would not be here with us pouring through the doc dumps and discussing this case. IMO!

I couldn't agree more !!

Since it is a law, I don't even see how this could happen even if the sherriff or LE or whoever wanted to agree to this, do they have that power? I mean, being that it is a law and not just a rule of the jail, is anyone even able to grant this request? I'd bet if they did someone in the media would sue and since it is an actual law, I would think they would win no?

Thanks OLG, I understand that of course.
I am only referring to one specific tape . Just this one. Why is it that important for media to request it so we can watch it at this point in the investigtion?

I'm with JBean on this one.

The purpose of Freedom of Information legislation (including the FL Sunshine Laws) is to provide transparency into the activities of the government and hold the gov't accountable to the People. Freedom of Information doesn't imply that the Public has a right to view/hear/read a conversation between between a not-yet-convicted prisoner and her parents.

Unfortunately, you can't have your cake and eat it too. To have full transparency, public records have to be made available upon request.

I don't think the law should be changed nor should anyone be allowed to break it. But, should such a visitation occur, I think the media should not cite 'freedom of information' to obtain the release of this video. Though legal, their motive is certainly not what the law intended.

PS. I'm pretty sure that if a confession or any other information valuable to the active investigation came out during a visitation, that record would fall under one of the exemptions to the Sunshine Laws and not be released until trial anyway.

There are a number of issues that the Anthony's might be interested .
Do they want Casey to get a different lawyer?
Do they want Casey to confess to them and answer the questions they have?
Do they want Casey to know that they are still a family regardless of what she has done?
Do they want her to feel connected to them as a way to better keep her from going further into her selfish self?
Do they want to find out if she is going to throw them under the bus?

I vote for the last item. I think they are afraid of what crap is going to be put out during the trial.

Since GA spent time in the hospital there has been time for them to get on the same page except for the position Casey is going to take. That is what is incomplete.

They are going to stick by the Casey they know would not do all this.
The other Casey is on trial.

Why not allow them to have their meeting and deal with the BS that Casey gives them and they will find that they wasted their time? So be it! The sooner reality hits the better.

In the future, they don't want to totally lose her, so they have to find out the ground rules for the trial.

The pattern has been, when the blame game is dominant, that it is all about them. It should be all about Casey and all she did behind their backs. Boundaries have to be defined. CA, GA, and LA are tired of being on trial. If they want to take responsibility for messing up Casey's personality and character, ok. But in the end it boils down to one messed up chick. They realize now that Casey has blamed them all theses years for her own faults. Casey has reached the end of her blame game.

Truth matters now.

I'm really wondering.......does anyone know who has the power to grant the A's request or if anyone does, being that the Sunshine Act is a law?

When there was talk of the request for Casey to attend the memorial or a funeral, that was up to the jail, there is no law saying she could not attend, but would need permission, so it was at the Sherriff's discreation. In this case though, if it's even possible, wouldn't it have to go through a judge or something and even then, could he exempt the law for them?

Someone said a few posts back that the Anthony's want permission to break the law, but since the jail or LE would be the ones in possesion of the tape, if they didn't turn it over to the media, wouldn't they be the ones breaking the law? KWIM?

Okay that was prefectly stated.
I also really want to clarify that if no one requests it, there is no special treament.

Aw, if the A's want contact with KC that is video taped and not released under the Sunshine laws, let'em use snail mail to relay their "points" of concern, condolences or whatever they call it. I recall that KC purchased a supply of paper, pens and stamps.

JB isn't going to allow her a video linked conference and probably won't allow snail mail either to her family. But when has that stopped KC before?

Laws are laws, rules are rules. By society's standards, we abide by these rules or suffer the consequences.

I'm trying to figure out why the attorneys made a public announcement about the family's wishes for a private visit.

a. To drum up sympathy for the A family
b. To irritate JB
c. To keep the A family in the media

Not sure, jmo

I think the time for the family and KC holding conversations is long
past. I seriously doubt that KC wants to see her family.

I think the A's will just have to wait until the trial to see KC. Then
they'll get their ears and eyes filled with the evidence against the
murderer.

Drammmaaaa! "Let's give 'em something to talk about"

Oh, I agree- let them see her!
