SEARCH UPDATE- Mon., Aug. 23
The search for missing 74 year old Barbara Doyle continues this week.
Last week we brought in cadaver dogs to conduct searches in the original area, but nothing was found. Last week we also worked on securing warrants for some electronic searches and electronic data, which helps determine different individuals that may have been in the area when she went missing. This data is hefty, and we will continue this week with these efforts, while we continue to do ground searches as well. We are tracking down every possibility, like if she traveled farther than we thought and someone picked her up.

We appreciate everyone’s continued support.

SEARCH UPDATE: Human remains were found in the woods off Ark. Hwy. 279 near the Presbyterian Church of Bella Vista Wednesday night, Aug. 25, during a planned ground search.

The remains appear to be consistent with the description of Barbara Doyle, 74, who has been missing from Bella Vista since Aug. 12, according to Police Chief James Graves.

The search Wednesday night was done by volunteer members of the Benton County Search and Rescue team, which is under the direction of Benton County Emergency Management.

Graves said at this time, no foul play is suspected but the scene remains under investigation and will be processed to preserve all evidence so that nothing is missed in the event more information arises in the future.

You know, it should be standard operating procedure for facilities to put a tracking bracelet on all ambulatory patients that have memory and cognitive concerns.

So very sad. Prayers for Mrs Doyle and to her family and friends.

She'd only been there 4 hours, maybe they just hadn't gotten to that point of the admissions process yet?

How far is the location of the body from the facility?

I"m unable to upload map for some reason. Looks like 1/2 mile walk of about 11 minutes by street/sidewalk, but the field seems to cross over field, making a shorter route.
Very sad circumstances. Prayers to her family.

That's what I am also thinking. Between the fact she was newer there and possible change of shifts for the front desk. Also facilities have to be careful about "detaining." There are some pretty specific rules and regulations that they follow. It also just depends on the facility. She was also "only suspected of having dementia" as well.

Even in hospitals patient's that are possibly volatile can't be restrained unless there are very specific circumstances.

“Per regulation, we are well within our protocol in making sure that we are following up with Miss Barbara by checking on her every 45 minutes,” said Henderson.

The article says she was last seen at 3:00, and when she was looked in on at 3:45 is when they could not locate her. It points out that she was in the assisted living part of the facility, which is not locked down.

Really sad and unfortunate circumstances.

I didn’t realize it was in the Ozarks. Beautiful country. My folks are from there. I was diagnosed with early onset dementia and Alzheimer’s just a bit over a year ago. I work tirelessly trying to slow the process - brain puzzles, games, organizing, scrapbooking and working and playing in my favorite of all - WS. I do have much trouble with short term memory. I lose and misplace things all the time. All the time. I get so frustrated when scrapping cause I lose the damn scissors ten times a day. I think of something I need to do in another room and can’t remember what once I go to that room. I cry a lot when I lose things. I’ll be in a conversation with my family and suddenly I can’t remember my words and I get flustered and cry some more. It drives me crazy. I keep fighting it. I’m way too young. I’m only 65. The doctors say the combination from the brain damage I suffered in a massive right brain stroke may be why it’s appearing so early.
My thoughts are with you as this is one of my biggest fears. May your memory/brain kick the dementia’s butt!

The body was discovered Wednesday night about a quarter mile from Brookfield, in the woods off Forest Hills Boulevard near the Presbyterian Church, during a ground search of a 120-acre area by volunteer members of the Benton County Search and Rescue team, which is under the direction of Benton County Emergency Management, said Bella Vista Police Chief James Graves.

The remains haven't yet been positively identified as Doyle, but the body is consistent with her, Graves said.

"We are fairly certain that these remains belong to her based on the time she's been out in the elements and where they were located," Graves said.

The body will be positively identified today when an autopsy is done, Graves said.

The initial search area was about 400 acres, Graves said, adding the area where the body was found was initially searched, but they had a team go back and search the area more thoroughly.

"This is very rough terrain," Graves said. "Bella Vista in general is very hilly. This time of year it's very overgrown. And the area she was in was consistent with that. It's the type of terrain that if you're not extremely close to somebody, you're not going to find them or see them. This was the type of terrain she was in."

The body of Barbara Doyle was found in the woods off Hwy. 279 near the Presbyterian Church of Bella Vista Wednesday (Aug. 25) around 7 p.m. during a planned ground search.

According to Bella Vista officials, the remains have been identified as Barbara Doyle, 74, who has been missing from Bella Vista since Aug. 12.

Although this might be a tough situation, the Doyle’s are glad to have closure.

“One of my fears is that this could go on indefinitely the way it was going,” Jack Doyle said. “That would’ve been hard. This is hard but that would’ve been harder."
