Garland Co. Woman, 80, Missing, Foul Play Suspected

An 80-year-old woman who's been reported missing may be the victim of foul play.

That's according to the Garland County Sheriff's Office (GCSO), who is looking for Betty Slaughter, of Hot Springs.

In a news release issued on Monday, the GCSO says it received information on Aug. 22 that Slaughter, who lives on Legend Circle, had disappeared.

Investigators say they found evidence at her home that made them suspect possible foul play.

The body of an unidentified person was discovered in an Arkansas cemetery Saturday evening, authorities said Sunday.

Man charged in missing Arkansas woman's death

A parolee has been charged in the slaying of an 80-year-old Arkansas woman who was reported missing last week.

The Sentinel-Record reports that Kevin Buerke was charged Thursday with capital murder in Betty Slaughter's death. Buerke could face the death penalty or life in prison without parole if convicted.
