How would they have known anything about AL or his phone in the first place? That's what I'm wondering.

Maybe when he took it to his house?

  • #402
BBM: LE specifically stated the name and phone number used to make the appt. were fictitious.
Oopsie!! Good catch, Zoo! I just went back and read it said BOTH were ficticious. He still could have called BC or she called him to set up the appointment time and date. What ever phone number he gave and possibly used would show up in her phone records. Heck, he might have done it all online too. Who knows!

  • #403
FYI: if you use Google voice or text free or one of those apps you can make calls/texts from your phone that will show up as a different number on the other persons caller ID but will still ping from your phone. Anyone who uses dating /hook up websites like POF or craigslist knows this.... You always use a fake number.

Don't ask me how I know this.... I plead the 5th.

My guess is that AL and BC as well as AL and CL would communicate through such apps about anything sketchy. After the app is deleted LE would have to figure out what app was used and hack into the account... Then be able to see all chat/text history.

So true! I had forgotten about those apps.
Plead the fifth? After this case is over we'll probably all want to drink the fifth! ; )

@Butler I think you may be on to something. This makes sense to me.

Yep and we know AL was using a texting app to text other women because CL caught him.
ETA: Wait a sec...AL also posted his phone number to that girl on instagram. I wonder if it was a fictitious number too?

That number posted on instagram is the same number crystals ex has in his phone for AL which leads me to think that was his actual number issued by the phone company. Plus if you Google it his name comes up. Doesn't mean he didn't use a fake number when he was committing crimes.

Do any of the VI know if it was out of character for CL to have met and married AL so fast? I mean had she had other marriages that came about so fast? For some reason, I was thinking I had read that she had been married several times. Also, I wonder if he sold his home before or after meeting AL? I would have thought by the time AL met CL that most of his money was already blown through.

"supposedly" they got married because AL has a small child from a previous relationship and he wanted to try and establish visitation with that child.... Family courts greatly frown upon cohabitation. After they legally got married it doesn't appear that he ever pursued getting visitation established. However, this could have been a line of bs that AL used to pressure crystal into marriage, or this could have been a line of bs that crystal gave to her ex..... All I can say is that's what I heard.

Butler, do you know how long after CL was arrested for kidnapping and murder her ex found out? Did he know before it was on the news? Since he has custody of both children I would think someone would notify them, but I have no idea how all that works with arrests as I have not been on either side of one.

I Googled his number. Sure enough his name popped up. I got a good chuckle out of his employment: CEO at self employed

Just caught up (again) and wanted to add the following.

On page 12 of this thread several people asked about whether or not we know that AL or CL used their own phone to set the appointment. There was an article that was posted on page 40 of thread #3 by beaglebrd that states "Authorities located Carter’s appointment book. But family members say the name and number of the potential buyer she was meeting Sept. 25 were fictitious.

Also, regarding the kidnapping for ransom theory....remember there was an interview with Carl Sr. early on in which he pleads for the kidnappers to leave Beverly alongside the road and nothing else will come of it. That, coupled with LE begging everyone to search sheds and any part of their property where a person may be kept leads me to believe that early on there was indication that this was a kidnap for ransom type of situation. (My internet is spotty but if anyone wants a link I will go hunt them down. Both have been posted on these threads in the past.)

I have been thinking this aswell. I dont think they honed in on AL at first by the appointment details.

I think a ransom demand might have actually been made but we just dont know about it. I think that is how they traced it back to him. Ransom would not be a simple thing to pull off undetected and AL isnt the brightest crayon in the box IMO.

Ive changed my mind a million times in this case. I really thought there were personal reasons behind her being taken but it seems that AL was probably just the money hungry **** everyone first thought.

The morning that she was arrested the first time for possession of the phone... A detective called the ex that morning around 9ish and told him he needed to make arrangements to get his daughter because "crystal will be in custody by the end of the day" he did not say what the charge was. If you remember the parents had already spoken Sunday night and decided for the daughter to go to dads house for a week or so until the drama died down. So the ex (who was at work) called his current wife and told her what the detective said. The current wife was scheduled to work that and had already planned to meet crystal at the "child exchange spot" later that afternoon. After hearing this message from the detective she called sick into work and called crystal and arranged to meet earlier in the day. (side note it was very typical for the step mom to make the child drop off and pick up arrangements) step mom then called the detective and informed him that they planned to meet in X-town, Oklahoma at 2:00 that day to exchange the daughter. (she did NOT call the detective to inform him of the child transport plan in order to get some upper hand in the custody dispute as NJ has previously stated... It was in response to him calling and telling dad to come get his daughter) crystal was arrested approximately 15 minutes after this phone call... I'm assuming that is because they didn't want her to leave the state. Shortly after she was arrested that Monday morning the detective called step mom back and informed her of Crystal's arrest and that they needed to make alternative plans to get the daughter. At this point the daughter is just sitting in a police station and dad and step mom are 7 hours away... Which is why dad had a family member who lives closer to little Rock go and get the daughter. No one knew what charges she was arrested for until the family member showed up to get the daughter and asked the detective.

As for when she was arrested for kidnapping and capital murder.... CLs oldest daughter (the one that is grown) called crystals ex-husband's and told him the day it happened .... She had seen it on the news. So, no.... No one notified this side of the family of her arrest. We found out about it on the news.

This is true, but if a Google voice # was used to make the appt., I would think that the police would not refer to the # as "fictitious." To me, the # for the appt. being fictitious means that it either doesn't exist or it belongs to some random person that just happens to have the same phone number as the # that somebody made up. Maybe the police worded it badly though and meant to say "alternate" phone # instead of fictitious.

The second arrest is what I wondered. So at that point the father already had his daughter with him. But wow, finding out on the news is bad.

Remember... The only reason the daughter was with dad the day she was arrested was because of the false positive urine drug screen.... They were still waiting on the hair follicle test results. Thank God for that.

BBM Perhaps this is why they were trailing him before he crashed. They were hopeful he would lead them to Beverly or were waiting for him to contact the family again, set up a meeting, etc.

And, as to the second BBM portion....I think they BOTH were. MOO

I was thinking the same thing and think this is a viable theory, the ransom call being made and LE using THAT as opposed to the real estate showing call. As for the "fictitious number" I would have suspected they would just call from a blocked number for caller ID but again, most our real estate showings here are booked by text or email in which case there are a million ways to use a fake email address or proxy IP that I'm sure AL would be familiar with. The ransom theory is starting to gain ground....

Back to the Meth or Not Meth discussion, I found this post from Oct 30th here by murrikan that cites, in an*ark.gov*court document, that HL stated that her stepfather was a "heavy user of methamphetamines".*We now have about 3 versions of the drug use story from 2 VI's and this court doc, all varying. It's an important discrepancy and I'm not favoring any one of the 3 versions over the other since I have no knowledge on it.... Just saying that somewhere in there lies the true story and it seems like a relevant point to the case. Meth or not Meth. There is a link at the post with the court documents and 5-F is where they talk about the daughter's comments. I suppose it could be a mistake. There are also records of the child support issue btw CL and KL going back to 2005 back and forth so whereas emergency custody was called for after the arrest, support /custody issues have been ongoing for years it appears.
