At the October 18 search, she had a patch on her arm... it looked more like a fentanyl patch than nicotine. Her disability I'm guessing has something to do with injury and resulting pain. I'm guessing this was probably not the only pain medicine she was on... doctor's usually don't prescribe just one.
That very well could explain why she was in bed. fentanyl is a crazy strong drug given to a lot of chronic pain patients. And you are right, it is usually a part of step therapy. I go to a pain management clinic for fibro. While I do not do the patches, I know some who do. Even with pain relief therapy she could have really bad breakthrough days which may explain why she was in bed the night Cassie went missing.
