Excellent points, 'hawk! Makes good sense. Yes, this case never really did go national -- and so many times, as you said, missing-child cases do go national, for good reason. And the longer the child is missing, the bigger the case gets, as long as the reporters, searchers, and the child's family keep it on a high profile.

And if this horribleness with Jersey had to happen, at least she was she was found very quickly. LE was well on top of it. Bless her little heart.

Yep, I have noticed that children who are never missing do not get much national coverage. Besides Jersey, other examples would be Sierra Newbold, Alanna Gallagher, and Grace Ford. It's not surprising. When a child is missing, it is more likely that the police and family will need the public's help. There will be press conferences, news releases, interviews, and searches. How much information is LE going to release in a murder investigation? The media can also run the possibility that the child might be found alive. I also think it's more difficult for a murder to stand out from all the other murder cases, than it is for a missing child case to stand out, since most missing child cases are going to be runaways or child custody cases. I also think it's a very rare case where the parents need to be all over the national media immediately after their child is found murdered. For example, I remember reading that Lyric Cook's family was very active in the media when she was missing, but have not said a word since Lyric and Elizabeth were found.

Also, I read a book by Marc Fuhrman who has a lot of connections in the media, and he says they aren't interested once the victim is found dead, and everything I've seen from following cases supports that.
