Interesting, Bee. Yes, it seems to me that at least some bit or two of incompetence would have shown up during the trial even tho a CIC was not presented if indeed that had been going on in the trials I saw and in this one as well. I did not see it in the the two previous ones, and I agree that Holly's attys. seem competent enuff -- they've got a tuff case & a tuffer client. I think they're doing the best thing for him -- lying low in the weeds and saving the main course for the penalty phase.
And in the two cases with no defensive CIC that I saw, the judge did speak with the defendant about not presenting a defense, etc., and not testifying, and each of them seemed to understand what was going on as well as what the judge was saying.
It would be nice, however, to see the dayam trial. Frustrating, frustrating, frustrating.
Tomorrow is another day. Let's see what happens...
