i always tend to look toward the family in these matters of life versus death.......there have been exceptions over the years where i have had a steadfast opinion, but i do feel the family is usually the best judgement of final case disposition and the one that i look toward most.....

they have now stated that they will support either life without parole OR death, whatever this jury decides......therefore i will as well..........

bless these jurors as they weigh this heavy burden and carry these heart-breaking images in their heads for the rest of their days.......i don't envy them :rose:

Holly’s attorneys are now trying to convince jurors to sentence Holly to life imprisonment without the benefit of parole. Simmons' testimony was part of that effort.

Simmons testified that she was a methamphetamine addict and used the drug while Holly was present in the home and through much of his childhood.

“I used to call it the demon in my life,” Simmons said. “That was my hell. It was more important than work and my children.”

Kent McLemore, one of Holly’s attorneys then began asking Simmons how she obtained her methamphetamine. Simmons said she used to exchange her food stamps for the drugs.

McLemore continued the questioning.

“You want me to say it,” a tearful Simmons said.

Simmons said she would do sexual favors for men with Holly present. He was 9 or 10 years old at the time, Simmons said.

She testified that her boyfriend used to beat her, along with Holly and her other two sons.

Simmons said she knew that her boyfriend was a registered sex offender while she dated and even lived with him. Simmons testified that she did not leave the man even after he beat her and her children.

Simmons was aware of Holly’s childhood claim that a older boy molested him.

Some of the closing arguments:

“Childhood matters, and if there ever was a case where a childhood had more of an imprint on them I don’t know what it is,” McLemore said.

McLemore pleaded with jurors not to impose a death sentence and sentence Holly to life imprisonment without the benefit with parole.

Smith had one more opportunity to address the jury.

“Childhood matters,” Smith said. “Jersey Bridgeman had a childhood and she doesn’t anymore. Her childhood matters.”

Smith said Holly’s childhood should not be an excuse for what happened to Jersey Bridgeman.

A few days ago we were talking about what the family wants regarding a sentence. They said recently that they would stand behind the jury's decision. Today I went to the memorial page and was looking at the "about" screen and saw this:

The wound was opened the morning we realized we would never see Jersey, never hear her voice, and never hold her in our arms again. This wound will never close. I believe in time we will be able to think of her without all of this ugliness that has taken her. That time will not and cannot come as long as Justice has not been made.
I ask you at this time, "when will the victims and their families have those rights?" Why, when you have such hard evidence, does this take so long? What is there to dispute? Once a person is found sane, competent, to stand trial, what is the hold up? Is it the money? Is it the star on the belt of the winning team? Who is gaining?
This country has become so over ridden with "rights" that they have actually taken "rights" away! Jersey has no rights. We, her family have no rights, the community that is outraged with us has no rights. Who is in charge here?
Justice for Jersey? I think not. The laws must change. Perpetrators have no fear. Repeat offenders have no fear. This is clear to me. What will scare them? Instant death by means of the death penalty invoked automatically, within a minimum of 6 months, IF DNA is involved.
What more do we need with this miraculous thing we have discovered? DNA.....isn't it there for a purpose.

I challenge you America! I challenge each state to step up to the plate for our kids. We must give these monsters something to be afraid of! Please, I beg you. Before more babies are taken from there beds, there parks, there schools. Fear shouldn't be that of the children. Fear should be that of a monster.

Jersey's Law - DNA involving murder / rape of a child = Automatic Death Sentence

So I suspect that even though they will stand with the jury, they would really like to see him get death (IMO)
