Circumstances of Disappearance
Mark Austin lived by himself in a very rural area. No family lived close to him and he had very little friends. People that knew him advised he was very lonely and depressed due to losing his wife several years ago in an accident. His wallet and phone were located at his residence with his vehicles.

Details of Disappearance
Austin lived alone in a very rural area on Broomfield Road in Pope County, Arkansas in 2019. He was very lonely and depressed and still grieving his wife, who had passed away in an accident several years earlier. He was last seen on May 28.

On July 2, his daughter asked the police to do a welfare check, as she hadn't heard from her father in over a month. When they went to his home he was gone, and Mimi, his late wife's dog, wasn't there either, but his wallet, phone and two vehicles were still at the residence. A missing persons report was filed at that time.

Austin has connections to the Hot Springs, Arkansas area. Few details are available in his case.

Remains identified as missing Pope Co. man

Remains discovered in a field along the Illinois Bayou have been identified as being those of a Pope County man who has been missing since 2019. The Pope County Sheriff’s Office announced Thursday the remains discovered near Broomfield Road on Nov. 30 belong to Mark Austin.

Pope County Sheriff's authorities have identified human remains discovered November 30th in a field along the Illinois Bayou near Broomfield Road. Pope County Sheriff’s Department Investigators, along with Arkansas State Police Special Agents, responded to the scene and collected the remains. The remains were sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab and were identified as Pope County, Arkansas missing person, Mark Austin. The remains were found within an approximate mile of Mr. Austin’s home and the Arkansas State Crime Lab has listed the manner of death as undetermined. The investigation is ongoing at this time. Sheriff Jones requests anyone with information in this case, please contact Lt. Dain Yarbrough with the Pope County Sheriff’s Department.

Human remains found near Broomfield Road identified

On November 30, 2020, human remains were discovered in a field along the Illinois Bayou near Broomfield Road.
The remains were identified as Pope County, Arkansas missing person, Mark Austin.

The remains were found within an approximate mile of Mr. Austin’s home and the Arkansas State Crime Lab has listed the manner of death as undetermined. The investigation is ongoing at this time.

Sad story. Sounds like he was struggling with grief and extremely isolated. I would be surprised if it was ruled as foul play.

Did they never find his dog?
