Van der Sloot was indicted by Alabama federal grand jury in 2010 -- the same year he murdered 21-year-old Stephany Flores (Miraflores, Peru).Oh shoot - a long wait, eh?Thanks for the reminder!
Federal prosecutors alleged that in March 2010 van der Sloot contacted Beth Holloway through her lawyer and claimed he would reveal the location of the teen's body in exchange for $250,000, with $25,000 paid upfront. During a recorded sting operation, Beth Holloway's attorney, John Q. Kelly, met with van der Sloot at an Aruba hotel, giving him $10,000 in cash as Beth Holloway wired $15,000 to van der Sloot's bank account, according to prosecutors.
Then, van der Sloot allegedly changed his story about the night he was with Natalee Holloway, prosecutors said. Van der Sloot claimed he had picked Natalee Holloway up, but she demanded to be put down, so he threw her to the ground. Van der Sloot said her head hit a rock and he claimed she died instantly from the impact, according to prosecutors.
Van der Sloot then took Kelly to a house and claimed that his father, who had since died, buried Natalee Holloway in the building's foundation, prosecutors said.
It was only days after Kelly emailed Van der Sloot-- telling him the information he gave them was worthless that he left Aruba for Peru. (Van der Sloot murdered Stephany May 30, 2010).

I don't hold out much hope that JV will ever cooperate and/or give up the location of NH's remains.
In this extortion case, he told the Holloway's lawyer who hand delivered money to JV in Aruba that his father buried NH beneath the foundation of a certain building-- but this building did not exist in 2005.
Same with his confession of how he murdered Stephany Flores. Even though he pled guilty to her murder-- the details by JV didn't match the autopsy.
IMO, he's an extremely violent sociopath who's probably really enjoying the attention right now in new territory where he will receive humane treatment. I don't think he will be in any hurry to return to Peru and expect he will do all he can to delay the prosecution. MOO

I think he will have better access to his mother. Rather she to him. Also no way will the USA let anything happen to him, he'll be sheltered even more than Watts is in his "special" housing.
He will have mastered street spanish, he's very big, and can communicate in at least 3 languages. The only thing I could see happening to him, ie some irate, nationalistic Peruvian trying to hurt him in retaliation for Stephany.
If he's there 2 years, he might get caught up on dental and eyes. He'll be able to sleep better, drink better water and probably have access to a bodega or prison store like Watts. Heck, he'll probably have the Watts lonely hearts club sending pics.
I think his Peruvian lawyer made that half-hearted (imo) effort to block his transfer as a cya back in Lima.

My opinion as well. He enjoys the notoriety and attention, feelings of power and control, and causing suffering. JMO.

I'd also forgotten how physically large he is and seeing how his security appear dwarf next to him, his two known victims had no chance at defending themselves. JMO
