Earlier this year, it was reported that Peru wanted to transfer Van der Sloot to the notorious CECOT prison in El Salvador. The Dutchman was among a group of “difficult inmates” that Peru wanted to send to CECOT, where tens of thousands of people are detained up to 80 to a cell.

Joran van der Sloot was found severely injured in his cell in the Peruvian prison where the Dutchman is serving his sentence for murder, extortion, and drug trafficking. According to the local newspaper La República, Van der Sloot attempted suicide.

That's an oversimplification of her death, leaving out that Joran slipped GHB into her drink, probably raped her before she died...

I agree with this. And I don't believe that she "fought" back. Girls that are drunk and drugged don't fight back much, if at all.

I think Van Der Sloot knew what Beth Holloway wanted to hear, and he gave her a completely self serving story. He is a scum bag.

After the incident, prison officials placed van der Sloot in a recorded interview, where he spoke about his time inside what he described as “the toughest prison in the world.” He was transferred to the Peruvian facility in October 2023.

During the interview, van der Sloot claimed his mental state had deteriorated to the point where he “didn’t want to live anymore.”
