I think they get it right way more times than they get it wrong. I don't believe the stories in full, necessarily, but most of the time there's some basis for fact. IMO

The NE has certainly had it's credibility issues in the past and has gone through several law suits as a result. But I see no reason for them to go out on a limb and fabricate a story about witnesses seeing a man beating a woman in a white car in Aruba. Besides, much of what they report has turned out to be fact. Just a few examples:

Initial shock, fear? Any number of reasons. They did say they yelled at him out their car window. Maybe they didn't know what else to do. Maybe they didn't have a cell phone. Then when they went back to get the plate #'s it was too late, the car, not surprisingly, had taken off.

It wouldn't be the first time that bystanders didn't intervene when witnessing someone being attacked:

I am sorry but none of the reasons that were given here and on another post are good ones for doing nothing while they witness a woman being punched in the face and beaten. Is this how people in Aruba react when they see someone in trouble? Look The other way? I think (if true) yelling at someone to stop beating her is rather dumb. The right thing to do is get a plate # and contact LE. I have to wonder if what the couple saw is true how they feel now that shes dead. I couldn't live with myself.

NE most definetly fabricates stories and puts out 100 percent BS at times. Robyn isn't here to sue them so theres nothing anyone can do..This last year between this case and Van Der Sloots most of the stories were fake.IMO

So maybe the credibility of their reporting could depend on whether it can or can't be proven or disproven, accountability versus no accountability?

I as well have difficulty with the face punching and rocking of the vehicle, and then just walk or drive away, really. Then only come forward when something happens. That is when I would never say what I saw if it ended in someone missing. jmo

Well, I agree, there are really no acceptable or good reasons for doing nothing. But sometimes people just don't act, that's just an unfortunate fact of life. jmo

It does not say who they were. They could have been a Dutch couple, any couple. Could have been no one. And they were not exactly standing on the sidewalk they were in a car and reportedly a regular car and not a 4-wheel vehicle. The pet cemetary appears to be a sandy area not good for driving a car in that is for sure. It's possible the RAV4 pulled away too fast for them to get a number. Mr. Silva did report earlier that he had seen GG driving radically on the jetty. So it could have been them, but there is no proof it was. As for Arubans, they are no different than you or I are about violence.

Something else I have never seen. A patrol car on that eastern coast. This is not a location that is patroled with regular police cars as there are no paved roads. If they're back there you will see a 4-wheel vehicle that usually has to do with a rescue. No one lives along that coast so there is no reason to have LE back there. This is not an area you would want to fly down the road at 50 miles per hour. It is usually 15 to 20 in most areas. Jeeps can travel faster but regulars cars it's pretty slow going most of the way. So I'd say a regular car was no match for the RAV4.

Plus we just don't know the situation of the couple. They may have had a small child in the car. There really isn't enough information to judge these innocent witnesses and if this report is even true. jmo

Does anyone know if all RAV 4's are all wheel drive? Or specifically if the one GG was driving was? TIA

Toyota RAV4

The Toyota RAV4 is a Crossover SUV from Toyota. It was the first compact crossover SUV,[1] introduced in Japan and Europe in 1994 and beginning sales in North America in 1996. The vehicle was designed for consumers wanting a vehicle that had most of the benefits of SUVs, such as increased cargo room, higher visibility, and the option of full-time four-wheel drive, along with the maneuverability and better fuel economy of a smaller car. Its name stands for "Recreational Active Vehicle with 4-wheel drive", although not all RAV4s have four-wheel drive, which is optional in some countries.[2] The early success of the RAV4 paved the way for other compact SUVs such as the Ford Escape and the Subaru Forester.

Budget in Aruba lists RAV4's with 4WD. There is about $40 to $50 a day difference in cost between a 4WD vehicle and a compact car in Aruba. For someone who was on vacation and trying to cut costs why would GG spend all that money on a 4 wheel vehicle?????? jmo

Thank you, that was what I was looking for. When we take our yearly ski trip to Colorado, we pay more for a 4WD because of the potential hazardous road conditions. In contrast, when we go to South Carolina in the summer, we don't get a 4WD because it's considerably more expensive and unnecessary.

So if the RAV4 that GG rented was a 4WD there would be a significant cost increase versus a non - 4WD vehicle. So here he was taking his own vodka in his own blue plastic cups into the restaurant, which is beyond cheap, imo. So the question is, why would Mr. Cheap want to pay that much more money for a 4WD vehicle just to drive around the island ???? This just raises the Hmmmm factor even more, imo.

And if you don't believe me, ask John Edwards!

I don't think Stein used his own judgment on that. I certainly know the fisherman are very familiar with the currents in those waters IMO Stein relied on the experts to tell him what was happening in those waters and where they should be looking. Even in calm waters tides go in and out. With GG saying they were snorkeling only a short distance from shore, yards out, they expected at the very least to find her body in the area where GG claims they were snorkeling.

Witnesses claimed they never got in the water so the very fact they did not find a body would leave investigators to believe she was never in that location. However the currents on the eastern side of the island are very strong. Had she gone off one of the cliffs her body may have been carried out if the currents were strong on that side of the island that day. In all my years in Aruba and we always visited the eastern coast, I have never seen anyone swimming in those waters. jmo

He needs to be using different experts then, because those fishermen are clueless if that is what they think.

They dont need to fabricate it, but they don't need to verify it either. They were reporting what a "witness" claimed to see. That doesn't mean that the witness is telling the truth. Sometimes they are, often they are not.

That is the case with many of their reports. They are not doing anything wrong since they aren't fabricating news, they are simply reporting what someone claimed to have seen.

Remember, they routinely report people seeing space aliens. It doesn't mean that space aliens are actually visiting, all it means that some nutjob who forgot to take their medication claims to have seen them.

Right! They were being refused a Pulitzer because they "paid" for the JE information. lol, like that sort of bombshell would come free.

Who should he have asked, a hunter? Seems to me fishermen, whose job it is to know those waters, would be experts on the ocean's behavior.

No one ever said Mr. Stein used the fishermen as experts. And those fishermen are anything but clueless and unless someone were to visit the island on a regular basis they would be in no position to know what those fishermen know. jmo

So because the primary suspect was released by the Aruban government that would make all the witnesses liars????? No wonder some witnesses never want to come forward. jmo

From another NE article. :what:

Police believe that GARY GIORDANO – the prime suspect in the disappear*ance of ROBYN GARDNER on the exotic island of Aruba – has secretly confessed to killing the blonde beauty!
*
An ENQUIRER investigation has discovered that cops have been told by guards at the squalid San Nicolas police station jail that Giordano was overheard moaning, weeping and banging his head and fists in his cell, while crying: “It’s all my fault!”
*
“Police are convinced these late-night mutterings by the murder suspect add up to a confession,” an insider revealed.
*
A source familiar with the in*vestigation told The ENQUIRER: “Personnel at the vermin-infested jailhouse have told cops that Gior*dano pounded his head and fists against the concrete walls and bars of his cell, saying, ‘Jesus, help me! I’m so, soooo sorry!’ His knuckles and forehead were swollen from all the banging.
*
“Other times, he would cry out in his sleep, saying, ‘Robyn! I’m so sorry! Forgive me!’ This went on every night. He sounded like a man wracked with guilt.”

<snip>

“Inmates told police that Giordano asked, ‘How much of a sentence can I get if they suspect I killed her but they can’t find proof and can’t find her body?’ ” the source divulged.

1. If these witnesses are lying then that makes them awful human beings.

2. If they had a small child in the car why would he yell at the man who was beating the woman? Why put your family in harms way?

I think the law should be like the episode of Stienfield when they were put in jail because they did nothing.
