ABN could have been applied to commit GST fraud. New businesses tend to have large start up costs so they pay out lots in GST and don't collect any. ATO sends out GST refund cheques until things start to look fishy, sometimes never... How do you charge a dead girl for tax fraud? You have to find her killers it would seem. I think they are not far off.

I work for a similar company in Mt Gambier, possibly the one you mention. Fuel Cards are used by truckies, not an EFTPOS card. Fuel is a business expense so there is no benefit in paying with an EFTPOS card. I don't believe it is a truckie but they will tell by the amount of fuel at each location.

I do agree though that if you are travelling Adelaide to Canberra you wouldn't go via Mt Gambier.

So sad. I wonder how many other missing people are not reported as missing....

I used to live in SA and the trucking company I associate with Mt Gambier is one that I thought had a good reputation, not bad as alluded to by someone previously. I don't know anything about trucking though.

Can anyone find the footage from the news of the supposed lady in wheelchair bottom half down? I can't :( Would like to see if the clothes match a few photos of wanted women for crdit card theft.

It should be available a bit later this evening. Rest assured one of us will post the link as soon as it is.

Medicare cards would be the easiest thing to get, I've had Illegal immigrants apply for jobs with medicare cards.

You can see why Wynarka was a potential dumping ground. It's on the way back from Canberra to Daveron Park. Canberra was named as one of the locations where money was withdrawn.

You can also see why the killers might have used Belanglo State Forrest. Just north east of Canberra.

IMO. Canberra is where Khandalyce was murdered

Alice is essentially a small town. Her car would have been recognised I'm sure. I wish they would release some CCTV pics of the perpetrators....
Looking forward to this Crime Stoppers episode.. when the public is asked to id unknown persons accessing Karlies account via ATM video :jail: might look like a safe place to be

Read through all pages and feeling drained, this is getting worse everyday, the saddest words I read must be Karlie and Khandalyce were killed at a different time and at different locations,". I am kind of thankful for that person who was curious enough to look into the suitcase and made a report to the police so these creeps can be sentenced and off the streets to do something like this again.

Interesting they only showed the bottom half on the news.

Both violent and deliberate deaths.
Evidence clearly show they were murdered at different times.

If they were both murdered in the same month then how would police now, 7 years later be able to determine it was at different times and not on the same day etc?

wow i just caught up.

Well what utter scum, and yet again we see people murdered for their centerlink payments and it going undetected for years.

I think the theft and fraud was a fortuitous coincidence for the perpetrators and not the reason for it.

These days Centrelink cut payments if your child does not receive age appropriate immunisations. Also if your child does not receive a four year health check etc etc. I wonder if Medicare and or Centrelink started asking questions re Khandalyce and that's when the payments were stopped. Perhaps the person who stole her identity got scared and stopped accessing the account after that. Just a thought.

Also, is it odd that someone would be cut off their only way of surviving and nobody would ever chase it up, like you would think Centerlink would expect you to have contact with a case worker or a social worker at least sometimes?

This is unreal.

Not to Centrelink. People jump off benefits every day - they certainly are not going to argue the point with them.

Yes I meant to ask if anyone knew how long they kept cctv footage for. another thought, don't Centrelink check photo ID? ..

..sorry I was assuming that the woman in the wheelchair must have presented herself to Centrelink pretending to be Karlie with her id, cards etc etc.

You don't need to present any ID when fronting at Centrelink. I don't even need my card, as I remember all my numbers and just rattle them off. They wouldn't be able to implement a system whereby people had to present photo ID, as many recipients may not have any. Most people only have a drivers license, and if they don't have one of them...

Maybe they need to look at fingerprinting scanners to ID people, which would be easy enough to do. The government could sack the redundant public servants they have to pay for it - apparently there are plenty of them.

The thing is though, the system is able to be abused. Just look at how many assumptions are on this thread alone about how Centrelink works. The need for face to face visits in recent years has lessened as well. You almost have to argue to see someone at times, as they will direct you over to the phones or the computers.

That said, it is not their responsibility to do welfare checks on their recipients. In fact, there would probably be privacy laws that are strictly enforced that would disable staff from wondering too hard about any individuals.

I can almost picture the types of people that would commit a crime such as this - out of a bunch of them, one or two may have a reasonable IQ, but the rest would be fairly low to average, with animal like cunning and no morals. They may be dumb, but they do know how to rort the system. They don't really think of consequences, but I bet you anything when they finally come before a judge you will hear all about how hard their life has been.

I can't wait for the arrests to start.

Interesting they only showed the bottom half on the news.
I think its a tactic from the police to show whoever that woman is that they know who she is so she will call in and dob the others in imo

Righto so we know that Karlie was in Adelaide and met a friend at a shopping centre there, was it around the 2nd of nov? Then it appears she was travelling north back towards alice springs - then inexpliciably decides to travel over to the ACT before christmas (and I think this is where and when she was murdered - dec 08) and then back to sa in the new year. in fact, in alice springs 7th of Jan!

I'm beginning to think it wasnt an opportunistic murder - someone/s knew Karlie and not just as a fleeting aquaintance.

Absolutely. They would have to know Karlie to impersonate her even in brief conversations with family.

Also earlier in the threads a fellow sleuther did mention they had a feeling a woman would end up being involved. Well done to whoever that was!

That was me :)
Nice to be right about something in this horrible story.

With regards to the 90K taken from Karlies bank account, how much in parenting payments would she have been receiving a year?

  • #860
Are these people involved with the initial suspect pedophile guy in jail or are they separate groups?

I'm guessing the incarcerated guy is the male involved and that he was a trucker. One of the women dumped the suitcase, probably soon after the bank account was closed due to inactivity. They thought the inactivity meant enough time had passed.

Dumbsnit.
