To me it is really surprising that none of the geocachers came across the suitcase if it had been there since 2008.
Apparently there are dozens of caches in that area.

I had never heard of Geocaching prior to this case.... so for those who aren't aware - as I wasn't...

There is an international "game"...where people hide a container ....in the container is little trinkets that people can take and swap with something they have...basically a treasure hunt or a weird sort of GPS orienteering game.....people log (write on a piece of paper that is contained in the container..when they found the cache - they can also log onto the geocaching website that they "found" the cache"... link to Geocaching:

Some of the earliest Cache's hidden were placed in late 2011...in roughly that same area that the suitcase was eventually found.

One cache placed hidden in 8/11/11 a mere stones through from the eventual "Discovery"...had been visited 246 times...

Geocachers had been all over that area since 2011.... a suitcase hidden..would have been found and foraged through IMO...as is the nature of a Geocacher to notice - what is out of place...that's the whole idea of the game... Maybe the did...and quickly decided it was just old clothes...But I am surprised it has/had taken so long to notice human bones...

To be honest - I have some doubts that the suitcase was disposed of along the Karoonda Hwy in 2008 ...and has taken this long for it's contents to remain a secret...

Yes, I agree. It's all very strange. I don't know how it could have been so well hidden in that location, other than hidden in the bushes. I don't think it's the type of place you would intentionally choose to pull up on the side of the road, grab and shovel and bury it, if you know what I mean. And although there are bushes and trees along the side of the road, it's not like it's in a forest or somewhere more remote - you would have thought the chances of it being found would have been much greater. I wonder if there's more to this. Something just doesn't quite gel for it to have been in that location for all those years, and yet only recently been disturbed.

There's not only the geocachers, but apparently the trial bike riders use that area frequently as well. I wouldn't have thought it feasible that a suitcase of that size would have been repeatedly overlooked unless it was buried, which as I say, doesn't seem a very likely scenario at that location.

I wonder what make police now so sure that it has been at that location for all that time? Unless someone has told them, in which case, I wonder how valid that information is? Something's just not right to me.

It is ironic to me that Daniel James Holdom was charged with the murder of Khandalyce Kiara Pearce on 15 December 2015. Her mother Karlie was killed between 14/15 December 2008. This is very poignant, given that it is 7 years to the day of Karlie's anniversary. Perhaps police deliberately used this date to charge him?

It is ironic to me that Daniel James Holdom was charged with the murder of Khandalyce Kiara Pearce on 15 December 2015. Her mother Karlie was killed between 14/15 December 2008. I'm fascinated by thinking police have solved two mysterious murders in the short time between 14./15. July and 15. December 2015!

I think someone they are talking to in Canberra has revealed the vital bit of evidence they needed.

I agree that between the geocachers and the trailbike riders using that area a suitcase cannot have been there since 2008; and as you say, where are the report of anyone seeing it earlier?

Plus - remember the fire?
I need to check on the date of that, but earlier Google images show how blackened the area was. Even if the suitcase escaped damage in that fire (how?) it would surely be blackened.

Not for nothing that DJH/M has permanently changed the state. I think, that was/is a hurdle for investigation.

I wouldn't discount that he may of returned to both crime scenes over the years, possibly in the company of a mate.

Small bones might just look like some one dumped the case with the remnants of their lunch in it ... KFC or similar. Sorry for the horror. It was the jaw bone that finally tipped the scale. Having said that humans can be awful creatures and people do just turn a blind eye. Most people have something to hide. Look at what DH has done its possible for evil to walk among us. We are here because we care so amongst like minded to a point.

Hey Plongi, and all, one thing that has always puzzled me when I hear of examination and movement of the Suitcase - if I found a suitcase with bones in it, I would be most concerned; I am pretty sure I wouldn't just throw it away - but then, there is the saying 'we really don't know our reaction until in the situation'.

IMO, if it's is genuinely so, then it is just another implausible / inexplicable (not enough adjectives!)

How long is the chain, how deep is the muck that masquerades as human!

As it got moved about and rummaged through more bones fell out here and there along that stretch of road. The jaw poking out between clothes was the clincher. I know its raw to say but the dotty dress probably held the some of the skeleton together in one section. The skull and lower limbs would have been loose in the case. Sorry if that is a bit real. All respect in finding the truth.

I agree plongi. Plus remember the state a few of the items were found in - the blackened jacket and the rug in particular. I imagine that the contents of the case would have been pretty awful smelling no matter how long had passed. The patchwork rug imo seemed to have absorbed a lot of fluids and seemed have been fused together in places where the deterioration was very obvious. I doubt too many folks would press on with nosing through the contents of the bag once they saw and smelled the contents.
I'm still hoping we'll learn more about how the police have narrowed down the place of Khandalyce's death to Wallaroo - another tip maybe, or more physical evidence we don't know about?

Over the years, I have noticed that police often wait until the funeral of a murder victim is conducted, then very shortly afterwards, charges are laid. This can be within a day or a few days. This may be a matter of respect for the family. But yes, I also believe that they have further information re Khandalyce, enabling pinpointing of specific dates and times.

When was the fire? Where was this reported? I asked about it before, but no-one responded. What it on the google images? I haven't been able to find anything on it.

Des Bray said (in his press release video SA POL live) there was no hurry to charge Holdom as he was already in jail therefore no danger to the public.
