Australia AUSTRALIA - 4YO AUGUST (GUS) Missing from rural family home in Outback, Yunta, South Australia, 27th Sept 2025

To me this makes no sense. The difference between a search radius of 2km and a radius of 8km is a difference of 12sqkm as opposed to 200sqkm ...

The Police wouldn’t be able to search 200sq kms..."in the first few hours".

In my opinion the police have conducted their search and investigation well so far, all things considered.
I agree and their actual search of the land seems to have been done thoroughly. Imo

Here are some small tidbits that some of you may find interesting.

As you officially enter Oak Park, via Oak Park Rd, you pass through a gate at the property boundary. This gate was typically kept open in the past, but it is now closed (not locked), and has "please close the gate' written on some pink tape wrapped around it - this is new.

There is a sign just beyond the gate that reads:

Oak Park Road ⬆️
No Tresspassing
Private Road ⬅️
No Access

At some stage, someone had written on this sign:

An expletive expressing disagreement, above 'No Trespassing'
'Public!', above 'Private Road'
and 'Full', above 'No Access'

These words have recently been scribbled out, with some additions made to the top of the sign, written in texta:
'Smile your[sic] on Camera'
and 'shut the gate'

At the sign, there is a fork in the road. Going left takes you down through the Oak Park property, eventually to Tiverton Outstation. Continuing right eventually takes you to the Oak Park homestead. You can't see the homestead from this point. It is still some kilometres away, over a small ridge.

A large area of land southeast of Oak Park is wholly owned by a mining company called Magnetite Mines. They've conducted a lot of research on two picturesque, neighbouring areas called Iron Peak and Razorback - for the purposes of Iron Ore mining. They haven't commenced mining operations there as yet, as they are seeking further investment, but there are occasionally employees out there surveying, maintaining roads and so on. None of these employees would ever need to travel close to the Oak Park homestead, as they access the potential mining area via Sturt Vale Rd (in other words, from the other direction). If you're on the land owned by the mining company and you start driving towards any of the surrounding station properties, you are met by a sign that says employees and visitors of Magnetite Mines cannot travel any further without prior approval, listing a phone number below that.

Directly south of Oak Park is a conservation park called Pualco Range, containing numerous large hills with rocky peaks. Visitation of this conservation park is very low. There are no facilities there. In fact, most maps do not actually tell you how to get there as the required roads are not marked or signposted. When I visit, there are sometimes fallen branches and growth over the tracks and little or no signs that the tracks have been used in some time. If you climb the tallest peak on the northern edge of the park, near a copper mine ruin called Wheal Motley, you get an excellent view of the surrounding area. From here, you can see multiple station homesteads in the distance - including Oak Park some 7km away, and others. In fact, you can see so far that even Tattawuppa Hill is clearly visible on the horizon, which is beyond Yunta, from that point. Surprisingly, at the top of this peak, you can also pick up 5G Telstra phone reception (from the Yunta tower). Parts of this conservation park have been searched in the efforts to locate Gus.

On the northern edge of Pualco Range Conservation Park is a chained and padlocked gate. The track beyond this gate leads to the Oak Park homestead. I don't recall if this gate has always been locked or if the chain is a new addition.

I hope some of you find this interesting. I also have many recent photos from the area, but I'm not sure that I should share them here.
Thank you so much for taking the time to put this together.

It is hugely helpful for me (and I’m sure others) in getting a much better idea of the area and its surroundings.

I can also understand the reasons for suggestions that Gus would not have wandered off the property. I think him leaving the property would require human intervention, however that then raises the question of Who was around with an opportunity to remove him…

JMO ..

I’ve puzzled over this photo for so long now that I’ve decided to ask the question,… does anyone else see a small print to the R of a larger print ? ( it’s the larger one that I imagine is the foot print that police are suggesting matches the boot that Gus was wearing - how they know that I have no idea if the boots are missing with him !)

Probably because there are some footprints belonging to Gus around the homestead that they were able to compare.

Just because they 'only found two footprints' doesn't necessarily mean that there were no footprints in the area where Gus didn't wander.

It may mean that the two footprints they found are the only ones they found not at the homestead or where could be expected.

imo

I've always thought I'd seen one on the left, see below for a half arsed comparison I made:

But it would be a really small foot, if that's little Gus' boot print size next to it.

Thanks so much for the titbits of information.

Interesting about the sign writing, so even though the property is in the sticks, there's hooligans still about.

I noticed you have mentioned 1 gate to the main entrance and other gates surrounding the property.

Can you elaborate more on why LE and Fleur Tiver say/imply that it's impossible to get to the property due to having to go through about 6 gates?

I said that as soon as this photo was released. It sure looked to me to be a footprint.

Yes I see two prints. The obvious one and one to the right angled up and out from the other one pointing sideways and outwards imo

  • #3,089
how they know that I have no idea if the boots are missing with him
It could be a common child's boot in Australia so the police can obtain a print easily, e.g. from same size, brand and type of boot at a shop?

It has been reported often that only One footprint has been found that belonged to Gus

Gus Lamont's father Joshua has broken cover for the first time in more than a month.

...

Mr Lamont was pictured on Tuesday looking distinctly more pale and thin than older photos, his red hair and beard flecked with grey as he appeared to be going to work dressed in tradie hi-vis.

When briefly approached for comment by Daily Mail, the devastated father reacted angrily.

Last month, Joshua appeared to be staying with his brother Samuel.

At the time, his brother told Daily Mail that Joshua wasn't ready to be interviewed about his missing son, but when asked again on Tuesday if there had been any change, Samuel loudly shouted to 'get off the property, now'.

Edit: The article goes on to mention that it is believed that Josh is currently living in a house worth $1 million in Adelaide, which has been owned by Josie and Shannon since 2009.

I looked back at an older article - these two photos are ~1 month apart. Just breaks my heart.

the number of calls. An example given by the witness when
cells cannot cope was during the Grand Final of the AFL
when there may be 100,000 spectators using mobile
telephones at the half time break and some calls will be
transferred to towers further away.

The Daily Mail need to back <modsnip> away from this family. It's harassment imo.
The family have to continue to work and 'normal' life return. There are specialists out there looking for Gus. Pictures of the family members shopping or going to work serves no purpose in the search for Gus. All MOO

Wondered how long it would take the Daily Mail to tell the value of the families home!
What a grubby despicable little rag it is

"As the investigation into the disappearance of little Gus Lamont continues, a worldwide peer support group for families grieving the loss of a child has revealed the “overwhelming pain and devastation” that the family “must be experiencing”.

“Grief is often described by bereaved parents as a hole or void in the heart that creates a constant ache and will always remain. Others describe it as a physical pain.”

“Within our group, many members find comfort in knowing they are not alone — having a safe space to talk, cry, listen and share how they have managed each day, week, month or year."

TCF South Australia is a non-profit organisation run by volunteers and a committee of bereaved parents, siblings or grandparents who rely on grants, donations and fundraising to offer free support to grieving families via their helpline, community events and monthly grief support meetings."

I am very familiar with the region. I'd been out there many times prior to - and twice following - the disappearance of little Gus. I knew of the Murray family, but I don't know them personally.

The lack of evidence in this case is... confounding...

I think that it is possible that Gus wandered away from the homestead, got lost and, very sadly, perished. There are recent, domestic examples of wide scale missing persons searches failing to find anything - only for the missing person to be found in or near the search area some time later, having been there the whole time (Tea Wright-Finger is the first that springs to mind). You could argue that the lack of evidence here is purely coincidental, and that the strange behaviours exhibited by the family are simply the reactions of private people who have been thrust into the spotlight - experiencing intense media scrutiny and intense grief, simultaneously.

<modsnip: No indications of foul play at this time and family are considered victims unless officially named POIs/suspects>
Being familiar with the local community, is it common practice for all of them to remain so steadfastly closed as in this case? I just find it interesting as there is usually someone that opens up & speaks out, but in this case, those calling the shots have certainly maintained a closed book approach.
