Australia AUSTRALIA - 4YO AUGUST (GUS) Missing from rural family home in Outback, Yunta, South Australia, 27th Sept 2025

I know that there was some discussion about this earlier in the thread, but didn't the police say he had never left the property? I know some people were interpreting that as he had never left on his own or he had never wandered off, but what if he meant he had little never left the property? Maybe no one outside the family has really ever seen him.
That was said but it may have been poorly worded as it was unclear as to whether he had really never left the property or hadn't left it during a particular timescale. I believe it was later clarified that he had never left it by himself.

I doubt that he had never left that property at all. For one thing, his father lives about 100km away on a different station. There were photos shown here on the thread of the father's property, including small children's toys e.g. a bike. JMO but I imagine Gus had visited his dad on that property.

And here is at least one of the gates

Oh wow, I hadn't realised how poor the visibility was. Has it been like that a lot of the time during the search?

Agreed. But that's why I raised the possibility of one with such a narrow opening it wouldn't even be considered.

Then there's that recent case of a little girl who climbed into a feed barrel but wasn't able to get back out. Those things are designed to keep moisture and pests out. Airtight.

It's maybe not likely but it's always possible that he's somewhere they have overlooked altogether. And the very nature of the location masks odor.

JMO
If little Gus had played outside only for 30 minutes until grandma returned and if the boy had become trapped somewhere in a narrow "container" of some sort, WHY didn't he cry pitifully and WHY didn't grandma hear anything? Because the "container" is possibly filled with some liquid and little Gus drowned as soon as he fell in?

I might be totally wrong, but I think it’s the town of Yunta that is about 40 k away.

I can’t go do the map calculations again, but I’m pretty sure from house to Oak Park Rd was about 500 m. ( someone please jump on that if I’ve got that wrong )

Interestingly though I did see a photo at some stage that made me wonder if that was of the entry off Oak Park Rd., and if so, I was struck by the fact that there was no visibility of the house from there, due to a ‘rise’ - in turn that would mean no visibility from the house to entry.

Which changes any suggestions of abduction to become ‘planned’ as opposed to ‘opportune: in my opinion.

Just my musings ..
Approx distance from homestead to Oak Park Road entry.

A possible scenario.......

Did Gus hide in the car when his mum and grandma went to feed the sheep? Is it possible that he got out of the car at that location and was left behind? I hope that this has been considered and that this area has been searched.

Talking to a family member last night, I was reminded of something I did when I was about Gus’ age.
I was the youngest of four children, and one afternoon, when my Mum went to work, I decided I wanted to go with her. Without anyone noticing, I sneaked into the back of her car and hid. The car was a Volkswagen with what we kids called a dicky seat behind the back seat, which is where I hid.
Back at home, my family had realised I was missing, and panic set in. Mum was called at work and rushed home to help look for me. I still remember lying there, thinking I had to stay quiet so I wouldn’t get into trouble. It wasn’t until about an hour after she got home — nearly four hours later in total — that I finally worked up the courage to climb out of the car. I think that I had a little nap during this time🥱
We lived on the outskirts of a small rural town, surrounded by family. My uncles and aunts lived on neighbouring properties, and my cousins, ranging in ages 0-20 were always close by — a ready-made herd of playmates. The older cousins always looked out for the younger ones.

Thanks Raina for your first hand insight. My experiences are not as remote, but still I understand.

I laugh unhumorously when I hear the telcos (amongst others) call themselves ‘service providers)

The people who most need their ‘services’ are those in our country’s rural & remote areas.
These people can’t just run next door for help or flag a Cab etc. yet while their lives may depend on the ability to ‘communicate’, it’s the almighty $$ that seems to govern the offerings / the roll out / the quality of the so called Service they receive.
( similar to the big Supermarkets, Banks etc who hold the majority to ransom in their endeavours to secure obscene profits - all to satisfy the greedy demands of their shareholders)

OK, off-subject rant !
I dare say that remote rural folk do not rely on these services as much as the rest of us.
From all reports to date, they are generational farmers living in a remote area so have probably never relied on these services.

The police will know (I'd assume so anyway!!) I guess there's no reason for the public to know unless they thought it would help the investigation.
Agree. There would be a lot that we don't know.

Does anyone know when the last time someone outside his immediate family saw him yet? Sorry if it’s already been answered.
It's a very important question but the police seem to be only publicising one aspect of their search, the boy wandered off angle.

They don't seem to be making any other avenues of investigation public, but it doesn't necessarily mean that they are not looking into it.

I want to know the answer, like you. I wish the police told us more about their investigation! 🥺

This actually disappoints me.

Until Pheobe went missing, her mother & family were unknowns (like most of us) but seems (IMO) that they’ve become front page ‘celebrity news’ at the expense of Pheobe’s passing.

I have no problem with them reaching out to support others e.g. Gus’s family, but my question is - how does the Daily Mail know about it ?

Given how silent & private Gus’s family have been, I struggle to see them being the mouth piece for this, who knows.

Am now wondering what the DM pay rate is ?

Yeah well, no use to me as I have absolutely nothing of interest to spill 😜
If it is reported by the DM then it is no doubt hearsay. Someone down the street probably told them 🥸. Who knows, perhaps the DM, looking for a story, made contact with Phoebe's family.
Referring to them as celebrity news doesn't fit. Am sure they would prefer to be the unknown people that they used to be before their daughter was murdered.

Not only DM reported this:

The Daily Mail knows about it because Phoebe's mum posted the "letter" on social media. It was an open letter, not a letter sent to Gus' family.

We know that the DM regularly searches social media for photos, comments, and anything else they can find about victims and perpetrators. (judging by the quantity of stolen FB photos they publish)

In a post shared on social media, Ms Johnson has offered heartfelt advice drawn from her own experience of losing her 17-year-old daughter, Pheobe, earlier this year.

“In the hope that Gus’s family sees this,” she began.

“My advice is that to protect your own mental health and ability to function. Stay off social media and the news. Keep looking and keeping your hopes alive ............. "

Re DM. I was tracked down by DM for a comment made on Google reviews. DM found another review I had left for a great tradie years earlier. DM phoned the tradie, the tradie phoned me and I phoned the journalist back.

I'm not sure the photos published on public social media can be considered "stolen" 🤔

Anybody can see and use them.

That is the risk of publicizing private photos on the Internet.

To add...
As MSM DM has legal department to check everything I guess.

Oh gosh. We had this happen to a child in Mississippi fairly recently. There is a thread here. I've been following here without posting and this has been on my mind. She was found on the family's property (much smaller than this one in Australia) in a livestock food storage bin. It was such a horrific tragedy.

Imo there has been no mention (perhaps they adequately told DM to p#ss off, but I doubt that would stop a story)

My hinky meter is currently wobbly.. . nothing feels ‘adequate’ to me, and I don’t know if that’s even the right adjective.

I get there’s disharmony between Josh & a Grandma - but surely circumstances such as this outweigh those differences.

It baffles me that Jess wouldn’t be wanting / needing the support of her reported partner and father of her missing child (+ one ) Similarly it baffles me that Josh isn’t there with her. He’s reported to have searched one night early on, but he’s not stayed around to be of support to Jess or on hand for any bit of information.

Little Gus should be enjoying the blissfully happy & innocent days of childhood. Wherever he is now, my thoughts and prayers are with him in his journey.

We don't know what Jess is wanting or needing or how she is coping, so it would be wrong to make any kind of assumptions about that. And we don't know what Josh is doing or why. The details of how he spends his time have not been reported, so again, we cannot make assumptions about what he is doing and why. For all we know he could be in constant communication.

This is just a poor example of Daily Fails failures. They should be 100% able to write the correct information, but it appears Jonica Bray can't nor the editor that looked over this article, that was printed yesterday in regards to Phoebe's mum.

The young boy was last seen by his grandmother, Josie Murray, at 5pm playing on a mound of dirt.

I noticed it, too. The local newspaper (The Advertiser) has stated again and again (and again) that it was Shannon who was at the homestead with the children at the time.

How on earth has the family been able to continue managing the work there, the sheep etc. It's hard daily work keeping ahead with the chores and sheep on such a huge property. It's been three weeks. Have they had any help?
Yes they were described as stoic....in front of others but no doubt they are suffering privately.
