Raelene Polymiadis, accused of murdering parents, says diabetes has been mismanaged in custody
The court heard that prison authorities believed the woman had the more common type 2 diabetes, which is typically managed through diet.
Ms Polymiadis said she had been diagnosed by her doctor with the genetic type 1 diabetes, which is treated with insulin.
Ms Shaw said that her client suffered a hypoglycaemic attack just before her hearing this morning after recording a "dangerous" blood-sugar level because she was unable to access insulin.
Police allege that the accused is the only known family member who had access to insulin and that neither of her parents had diabetes.
