Thanks, kpetrova_x! That would be very helpful. That is the only picture I have seen with a dog. I don't know anything about spaniels, and would appreciate any input you can offer. [emoji275]

Yw! I'll ask around, although, it does look a little like a Golden Dachshund too. Although, probably a little big for a Dachshund puppy. Image sent to my 'Spaniel meet up' group chat!

Sweet!!

I had a dachshund once. Smart. Loved to be the trail scout on hikes. My stepdaughter brought a 'chiweenie' with her when she came to live with us last year. Looks like a mini short-haired red doxie. He is quite handsome with very nice lines. Fastest dog on earth! Not even kidding.

Sometime ago in discussing CSK, and about Kerry Turner someone posted that they were sure that the car was a Gemini rather than a Datsun.
Something bugged me about that, but I couldn't put my finger upon it till Tuesday.
Back in 1976 there was an incident reported in MSM about a Gemini and a Volkswagen that started on the narrows and ended at a police station in the Fremantle area.
The driver of the Gemini lived in Thornlie and was a trainee cop.
Can anyone dig that up? Trove doesn't go passed the 1950"s

Beautiful dogs they are :heartbeat:

10 out of 12 of my "Spaniel Friends" (I'm not in a group chat with Spaniels, I mean their owners ;) ) said either Cocker or Cocker mix :)

Good work, kpetrova_x. Thanks for the visual of a Spaniel working a keyboard and posing as their chatting human. Haha.

The two spaniel breeders I found on the dogzonline site that have been established for many years are in the Southern River area. One breeder runs the Cocker Spaniel Club and the other breeds American Spaniels. I wonder if they could look at Leela's photo and tell us anything. The doco definitely said 'sold their prize dogs.'

Aside: The wayback machine Nannup Telegraph captures kept giving me server errors and gateway errors last night but are loading fine this morning. Y'all must be sleeping. I will have to schedule my ghost wormhole tour accordingly.

Leela and her dog:

View attachment 110665

This image is from the doco.

leela first came to my attention as a missing person while i was sleuthing the case of a child discovered in the suitcase found at wynarka SA ... so my apologies for jumping in at the end of the topic (i do intend to catch up when able) but since the lovely photo of leela with her cute little puppy caught my eye, i thought i should comment here and now.

in my opinion - judging by the length of its snout - the puppy looks like a miniature long haired dachshund, which i imagine may be less common than the spaniel breed.

compare leela's puppy to the picture on this breeders profile.
the breeder's location is esperance WA >

for this breed, there is also a rescue organisation established in 2009 >

what do you think?
i hope it assists your sleuthing.

_______________ _______________ _______________

PS ... pretty sure there's also a facebook page for the organisation involved with rescue of this particular breed.

failing that, perhaps somebody reading has a connection to leela's grandparents, (without sleuthing them) ...they'd probably know which breed

I know a Cavalier King Charles breeder, but the dogs look anything but.
Not much help.

I said this as well yesterday. My partner also said when he got home from work 'oh it's one of Gracie's dogs' We have a friend, Gracie, who has 3 of these :)

The Nannup telegraph pages are still online but I was saving them into wayback as I was snipping bits of interest.
From what I can gather, the government was buying properties along Thomas Rd, ND Police had a big operations to weed out weed growers, either of which could be an alternative explanation for the POI selling up.

Thanks for jumping in! No reading requirement...

I agree Brevette and kpetrova_x. The face looks like a doxie! The paw looks big to me, but you think that is all long-hair? TIA.

Yeah that's why I was hesitant with a doxie yesterday but could be fur, definitely a doxie face.

thanks, watergirl,
google "long haired miniature dachshunds" ...they are, as you said, quite redsetterish in appearance, but their legs are VERY short; the curls making the paws look extra chunky for such a little dog ... just like the pup in leela's photo ;) imo (;

Also easy to believe a dachshund would be a 'prize dog.' Their very expensive and it seems everyone wants one.

So a long-haired doxie breeder price of $2000 AUD is about $1500 USD. [emoji102]

I found a couple of things in the telegraph about Nannup Hotel events. I need to review the doco but it did say Chantelle worked here also. Doco also mentioned how Simon was very jealous of this particular gig.

So she had 3 part-time jobs:
Fish and chips
Swimming lessons
Nannup Hotel

How does that affect Centrelink payments (assuming the payments are for Leela)?

If she worked full-time and made enough to live above the poverty line would she still get them?
