Bruce and Denise Morcombe lead first Walk for Daniel since his killer was convicted

WITH a lightness of step, Bruce and Denise Morcombe have today led the annual Walk for Daniel — the first since their son’s killer was jailed.

One thousand people in red joined the inspirational couple on the Sunshine Coast, and thousands more across the nation are hosting similar events, including more than 1500 schools.

It comes a day after their son’s killer, Brett Cowan, was set a date for his appeal against his 20-year sentence.

However the Morcombes said they had already prepared themselves for that possibility and would not let it affect them.

“We’re even prepared that it might end up in the a High Court,” said Bruce.

“We have faith in the legal system.”

Daniel's parents are incredible people and have shown tremendous strength despite the daily agony of missing Daniel. I just wish they could be left alone and not have to think about this monster and his disgusting appeals ever again.

Morcombe killer's appeal to be heard today

Lawyers for Brett Peter Cowan will argue he did not get a fair trial when he was convicted of the murder of schoolboy Daniel Morcombe.

The Court of Appeal in Brisbane will hear Cowan's case on Wednesday after he was sentenced in March to life with a non-parole period of 20 years.

A jury then found Cowan, 45, guilty of abducting and murdering the Sunshine Coast schoolboy.

Lawyers filed a notice of appeal against his murder conviction in April.

Thanks for all your updates everyone and for not forgetting about Daniel's case. I just want Daniel's family to be left in peace safe in the knowledge that this monster is never going to walk free again. I pray to God this appeal fails and he is incarcerated for life.

Bruce and Denise Morcombe have described the appeal of the man convicted of killing their 13-year-old son on Queensland's Sunshine Coast as "a waste of taxpayers' money".

Speaking outside court this morning, Mr Morcombe said the appeal was: "It's a test to see whether Cowan's guilty legal verdict was fair, in particular ... the covert operation," he said.
Tell me about fair - ask Daniel if it was fair."

The Attorney-General is also appealing against Cowan's sentence, arguing the non-parole period of 20 years is manifestly inadequate, not in line with community expectations and will not act as a deterrent ...
