A WA man has been transported to Victoria charged with the murder of Geelong mother Annette Steward three decades ago.
The 55-year-old man, who was already behind bars for an unrelated offence, was taken from his WA jail cell and flown to Victoria last week on a prison transfer order, where he is charged with murdering Ms Steward on March 18, 1992.
The West Australian is unable to name the man for legal reasons.
Victoria Police confirmed he had been charged with Ms Steward’s murder on Tuesday. They had offered a $1 million reward for information in relation to the 29-year-old’s death in 2015.
The man had faced Perth Magistrates Court on Monday on a prisoner transfer order which was granted by Magistrate Kelly Thompson.
The hearing lasted five minutes and the man, who appeared in court from custody, was not represented by a lawyer.
The man is due to appear in Melbourne Magistrates Court on March 20.
