And this. Charters Towers appears to be a bit of a stop on the illicit highway for drug trafficking north & south. There are many many articles online about drugs in the area, major operations, seizures etc.
A bit depressing actually. To know that country areas like this, once the strong hold of cattle empires, those typical akubra hat wearing, sunburned old blokes who worked damn hard on the land, and did an honest days work for not much pay - have now become the empire of these rotten individuals, meth producers, who seek to profit from the utter misery and ruined lives of the people they hook.
IMO only

Yes, Charters Towers is heavily affected by ice. Since 2015 it has been considered one of the hardest hit towns in North Queensland by this scourge that is taking hold in our country towns.

It is infiltrating the north’s towns with Bowen, Charters Towers, Ingham and Mount Isa among the worst affected communities.

I feel so sad for all Jayden’s family and friends. At the end of the day there is no way you would leave a friend after an argument and drive nearly six hours away and then come back days later to look for him. I also read a couple of days after LT had said he was searching he was seen on Snapchat having a great time at dreamworld on the goldcoast. Some friend he is.

I feel sick in the pit of my tummy for his family
And I agree never leave anyone there are so many other options.
Also It doesn't appear he did leave straight away and drive 6 hours as the police now seem to have opened the time frame for what appears to be 3am dec 31 to daytime 1 Jan

NBN just had a short clip and it seems they have upped the amount of searches now. 30 police and 50 SES and rescue. I am really feeling for the family.

Here is the NBN clip, Horror.

The police officer is saying that they are going to visit every known waterhole in that location, in their search for Jayden, in case he is existing on drinking water.

The journo talks to Jayden's mum and his aunt, and they show a crowd funding page that has been set up to assist the family in their search.

Thanks SA
Is it me or did you find the way he stated they are searching every single water hole more of a statement ? Maybe I am reading to much into this mystery

I didn't get the impression that anyone truly thinks that Jayden is alive. Seems the police are going through the motions, and saying all the usual hope-filled things, and just trying their best to find Jayden.

Those stories about the ice epidemic are quite sickening. Think of all the lives squandered to that stuff.

Really keen to hear more about the person who rendered assistance......

Not much extra information

But just look at how wide the initial search location was, and quite far away from the roadhouse. That doesn't make a lot of sense to me, unless there was miscommunication initially.

The tone of the article leans towards him being out there somewhere ready to find, which is promising.

I’m searching maps for cell towers in that area but alas.
Anyone?

There used to be an RF site at spench.net which showed a larger geographical area. But that site hasn't been operational for a little while now.

On the OzTowers site, you need to do it by postcode or town/suburb name, so you can't capture as wide of an area.
This map is for 4820, which includes Charters Towers.

Two interesting things I picked up in the article ....

BBM

But Townsville District police Inspector Roger Whyte insisted the search effort was “evidence-based” and he vowed to leave “no stone unturned”.

“We would not be searching here if we did not believe we could find Jayden,” Inspector Whyte said on Wednesday.

The ACMA/RADCOM website (temporarily down) may be a viable alternative:

"Seeing how unforgiving the area her son is thought to be lost in was came as a terrible shock.

“I had no idea, how hard it is, how hot it was ... I couldn’t imagine being able to cope with that with no clothes, no water, no money, no nothing. I just don’t get it. I don’t get why there have been no reported sightings. I don’t understand how nothing concrete has come through.”

He would never stay away this long without speaking to a family member or a friend."

"Recent rain, including a massive dump on Monday of 86.1 millimetres, the drought-stricken town's wettest day in five years, has hampered search efforts.

From one extreme to the next, there has also been searing heat."
