I took her use of words "logged on" as meaning, she went onto her mums fb profile and went thru her friends list (which are visable) and contacted everyone via PM, hence why many were contacted next day, these friends may not have received her message straight away if they are not frequent fb users, or if Sarahs message went into the approve request area first (which is easy to miss). Otherwise to log onto her mums page she would have to have Karens password.
Also if she had "logged on" to Karens page, I would have thought she would put a great big message along the lines of....... hey everyone this is Sarah, Karens daughter, mum is misssing and we are very worried. Please if you have heard from her or know where she is get in contact with me on (mobile no.) or contact police.

She could have posted a message on Karens wall, if it's only made available to friends we wouldn't know. Also possible that she sent each a msg from Karens account to ensure that they have been seen.

I think she does know or has guessed Karens password, and has logged onto her account.

SR is in effect Karen's only child and I'm thinking that is how she was treated within the family. It doesn't seem that there was a sibling relationship between SR and AR.

In her 3AW interview, SR says "I am an only child." Not her only child. I agree SR was probably treated as an only child within the family.

I guess there's also the chance she was never told AR was her half brother, maybe just he was a cousin or relative, who knows, she was still very young when he left the home.

If she was suicidal, using one of those abandoned buildings to hide in might be a possibility. I'm thinking getting in might be a challenge though?

Sarah's profile was there as the Samuel Johnson news broke, disappeared in the next few days, maybe as the allegations were made?

I think the Samuel Johnson stuff probably kicked him off more than Sarah's comment.

I thought that at first, but he lived there at 27, 5 years ago, so she was 16. When he was 15-22, she was 4 to 11 years old. That's a lot of formative years with someone in the house to consider yourself an only child.

Even the 3aw podcast has been pulled as well - nothing.

I've seen this before when certain MSM articles or photos go missing everywhere on the web.
For example there was a pic of Bill Spedding's vehicle parked outside the home where William Tyrrel was abducted.

Before his arrest all reference to this was deleted.
Same with Adrian Bayley.

Good point, Ozazure, but what troubles me is that AR only came to police attention re case, allegedly, because of an unrelated incident a fairly decent time after KR disappeared, so surely a school friend or someone would have let the police know straight away, you know, hang on, she has a half brother ..... but then again, yes, technically she is her mother's only child. H"mm.

Exactly. I have wondered if he was 'disowned' at some point and that is why she said that. Perhaps after he supposedly confronted them about the family secret. Or after an infraction that so many ice addicts tend to to do, such as repeatedly stealing from their family to support their habit.
Although he says that his father contacted him about Karen's disappearance, so they must know how to reach him still.

Some families place greater importance on keeping up appearances than others. Not so much materialistic, more a matter of pride.
They don't share personal marital or family discord or financial difficulties, even with friends. They deem these matters to be private.

The Ristevskis strike me as such a family. The vague, 'everything seemed ok' interview with the 'close friend' adds to my impression.

Having their private world stripped apart and picked over in public would be embarrassing for any family; for a usually very private family, it would be devastating.

It happens more often than people realise, Mrs G Norris ... I've known a handful of people over the years who've been the 'keeping up appearances' type who you'll never get to know intimately but suspect that it's a charade because some things they say or do just don't add up.

That Daily Mail article from the viewpoint of the 'friend' who wishes to remain anonymous is annoying. Why not publicly state who they are? What's the big deal? If my friend was missing I wouldn't hide behind anonymity. And as Hbayne pointed out above, maybe Sarah knows where her mother is, so why even mention her? (Indeed, Sarah may not know; I guess we'll never be privy to that). The way that people keep talking about 'Oh, Karen would never leave her daughter' is nonsense in that Sarah is a 21 year old woman, not a 7 year old child. Underneath that Daily Mail article was a comment from another 'friend' who said she hadn't seen Karen in some time, and also maintained the 'Karen wouldn't leave her daughter' opinion. Call me a cynic but I just see all these 'anonymous friends' and 'unnamed sources' and think BS. If you're her friend, you care about her and you want her found then front up and say who you are - otherwise how do we know that you're not just some random person trying to get your own 15 minutes of fame?

Just in the past few hours I've had a bit of a sinking feeling about Karen. At first I was convinced that she'd gone off to gather her thoughts and/or start a new life, but now I'm not so sure. Maybe she did do that at the outset but then all the revelations about her finances and family conflict were made public which caused her to go over the edge (as a proud person that would've left her feeling helpless). I really hope I'm wrong in that respect.

I'm only going from a gut feeling.....various people wanting to remain anonymous raises red flags of fear. I can fully understand your thoughts about Sarah being 21 ......as a mum of a 24 and 27 year old, I know my kids would be beyond devastation if I disappeared into nowhere. I personally do not know how a mother could do that.....upon saying that if the allegations are true regarding the relationship between AR and KR, I guess anything is possible. I'm off on holidays shortly and I have grief about leaving my dog for 2 weeks.

I wish the person/s who previously commented on this, and other forums, recently to say she was alive and well but seeking legal advice would come back and give us an update as to their thoughts about that theory (sorry, can't remember who it was on here, but it was in the early days of Karen going missing).

If she had jumped on a plane to NZ I'm sure the police would've found her by now if she'd used her passport (either in married or maiden name). The thing is, Karen has quite a distinct look - it's not as if she could dye her hair and look completely different, hoping to 'blend in' here in NZ ... someone would see her and alert the authorities. I'm sure I'm not the only NZer here on Websleuths; besides, Kiwis and Aussies are going back and forth between the two countries constantly, so I'm sure her story would be known to a lot of people (even though it's not in the news here). I really don't think there's anywhere Karen could hide if she did come here - and you never quite know who you're going to run into, even in far-out, remote places.

I guess the police will continue to keep an eye on those close to Karen to see what their movements are. If they are all in on this together they'll no doubt make plans to catch up at some stage and get caught out.

But I really don't think this is a possibility - I think she's gone for good, either by suicide or homicide.

If Karen is deceased the longer it takes to find her, the less DNA will remain.
In a perfect world it would be amazing if she is found somewhere safe.

But I'd be somewhat p*ssed off.

I think if she is somewhere alive, she has probably suffered a pretty significant mental health crisis ... if she needs to hide out to cope, much better she is doing that to cope than has committed suicide.

And all she has to do is use her ATM card as a sign of life ... she can disappear into the thin air again if she has managed it once before.

One word - stumped !!! Have no bloody idea anymore

Sorry if Im wrong about which buildings you talking about...... if you mean the ones on the department of defence site..

You would be correct in saying they would be hard to get into.

The site is directly across the river from their home, so she or someone with a boat would need to cross over the river, it also has cyclone fencing surrounding the whole area.

Even if someone were to say.... murder someone in Avondale Heights and be looking for a place to hide a body.....this would be the least likely place as its fenced in its circumference, would still be patrolled by security (wilsons). The main gate on Raleigh Road would still require defence force clearance ID.

Id be only looking on the banks of the river that side ...... pretty sure theres about a 20 meter gap between the bank and their fencing which encapsulates the whole site...... Never saw any msm that side of the river bank had been searched.

The river itself really hasn't been searched at all from what I can see.

I wonder what that tip-off the police (or was it Crimestoppers?) received that made them search down by the bridge ... it surely must've been something more substantial than, "I saw something in the water"? I'm with Hbayne ... I just don't know anymore. It's been too long now ... if they haven't found her by now then it's most certainly going to become a cold case.

Remember the last video clip, not very long ago. The detective said they are making great headway. He could have said nothing.
These things take time. There is not always a very quick result. There are lots of cases right here on WS that have taken some time for a result, but a result has been achieved through diligent, painstaking, quiet investigation.
