After reading that article in The Australian I am more convinced that this is suicide. But the thing that still baffles me is the lack of a body. It would be difficult to hide a suicide. Is The Australian looking more closely at a family member hence the close scrutiny of the financial and business dealings. The Australian was the first MSM to do this a couple of weeks back. This case is becoming more and more baffling, I'm loosing hair by the bucket load.

I don't think you can say he has the business nouse of a cabbage - A US plan to export Pecans to China was very successful - and Diversifying can be good business.

I find it interesting that The Australian appears to be the only MSM that is looking deeply into the Financial and Business affairs.

Others will re-print it (especially the likes of Daily Mail), but because it's an exclusive story they have to wait for a certain time period before they can print it (and cite The Australian as the reference).

Yes, but (and respectfully) based on their track record they're just not good business people. If they can't make a clothing business work then what makes them think they'll be more successful with nuts?

Edited to say - I mean no disrespect by insinuating operating a clothing business is easy - I'm sure it's not. I'm just saying that there are a lot of successful Australian owned and operating clothing businesses and as they'd been in the rag trade for a long time through their various businesses I'm surprised they weren't making a lot of money.

I agree that their track record isn't good - maybe the partners were better at it than them. Either way, it would have been a good business to get into by the sounds of all reports.

It must be about 12 hours they have to wait before they can print it (judging by the time The Australian article was put up, and the time stamp on the Daily Mail article). Only news sites affiliated with The Australian (or news aggregate sites with permission) will be allowed to publish the gist of the article, so it won't be published everywhere. If it was a straight-out press release issued by the police then all the media would have access to print it straight away; but as The Australian's reporters have done all the work everyone else has to wait.

I'm sure everyone else wants the story too, but if they're not affiliated with The Australian, or don't have permission to re-publish it, then they're tough out of luck. The Australian must be loving all the extra traffic they're generating at the moment with these exclusives.

Yes that's my point, I would have thought that in business you stick with what you know or what your good at. They couldn't make clothing work, what made them think they could make pecan nuts work. Their prospective business partners had the right idea and pulled out. Probably a good move on their part.

What a complete shambles their business and financial affairs have been been, and are, in. They strike me as people who are in denial about what they actually owe, and who have a "she'll be right" attitude - probably never actually intending to fix things.

I actually feel angry after reading all that. Obviously the extent of their wheelings and dealings have come at a cost to their personal relationships too (going by what's been reported about Karen's former best friend). As for trading whilst insolvent ... it just shows a complete lack of responsibility and respect for the law. I'm sure they knew what they were doing, but just carried on regardless because they thought they could get away with it.

As for the pecan nut business ... I'm speechless. They have a track record of failed businesses, the type that you would expect to do quite well in the Australian marketplace, and they thought they could make something risky like that work? Maybe if they were in the food business they'd have a slight chance of making it work, but even still ...

So here they are living in a $1m+ house - which may or may not be financed to the hilt - driving late-model cars (that VW Tiguan 4WD parked in the driveway wouldn't come cheap, even if it's leased), and spending like there's no tomorrow. Shame on them. You'd think that two people in their late 40s and early 50s would have the maturity to step back and realise they're not cut out to be business owners and they'd be better off working for someone else to make a living. But then that whole matter of keeping up appearances comes in - these people would probably feel too proud to work for someone else.

I don't have any sympathy for their financial or business situations, but I do care about finding Karen. If she has simply wandered off on her own accord and is still alive and well I hope she comes back before The Australian digs up even more dirt (although, I see they've essentially printed what AR has accused her of, so what could be worse than that)?

Scammers out for a get rich quick scheme IMO .. Puts all the celebrity worship into perspective for me .. They were hoping to use their profiles for $$$

Just jumping off the angle of not being able to make a clothing business work ( sorry I can't remember who said it )

The Australian economy is pretty bad at the moment. Walk through any local shopping centre and you'll see plenty of shops that have closed down.

As for selling nuts to China , good grief :gaah: it screams of someone trying to make a quick buck. Like investing in tree farms, emus etc. I'll also bet my last dollar that someone in that family is a gambler. Either BR or Karen.

I just wish I could decide between murder or suicide
