She said the Crown relied on “overwhelming” circumstantial evidence and direct admissions made by Holdom.
He has pleaded not guilty to the murders.

and yet ....

Mr Mabbutt said in his opinion the photos were the strongest element in the Crown’s “large, complex and circumstantial case”.
Holdom represented himself in the proceedings after sacking his Legal Aid lawyer last week.
Mr Mabbutt asked him several questions including if he wanted to say anything in relation to the charges, give evidence or call witnesses.
“No, you Honour,” he said to each question.

Why plead not guilty?
I was thinking "direct admissions" meant the admissions to the witnesses, not LE.

Perhaps the reason he sacked his lawyer is that he confessed to the lawyer but still wanted to plead not guilty. The lawyer would be unable to represent him in that case.

If he is representing himself does that mean he will be cross-examining the witnesses? :floorlaugh: Surely not!!!

One of the two women known to have been in relationships with the man accused of Karlie Pearce-Stevenson's murder kept an online diary where she documented the ups and downs of their relationship.

'Well Daniel hidden (sic) 2 diff phones under his car seat I found them and busted him now he saying it dosnt (sic) make up for what I did haha f*** you ****!' she wrote.
'Seems the lies nd (sic) sneaking has come from both sides'.

most likely he sacked his lawyer because he knew better than his lawyer on how to run his case. And besides, why should some smarty pants Legal Aid Lawyer take centre stage when I am well and truly ready ?.... and notice, how I waited till the trial was about to get underway,? , that way they cant come up with another Smarty , in time .

He spoke only when asked questions by Magistrate Mabbutt or lawyer Edward Chee, who is assisting Holdom throughout the hearing after he sacked his Legal Aid lawyer last week, and could not tell the court exactly how much of the brief of evidence supplied by the Director of Public Prosecutions he had read.

“I have read about 50 per cent,” Holdom told the court.

Most likely Troop.
All good - he has a lawyer assisting him.
Wonder if he got through the other 50% of that brief.
Can't find too much on DH's assistant.

What kind of upbringing could that 16 year old girl have had to even expose her to meeting this creep?

It means exactly that. And what's more, he can take as much time as will extend the Judge's patience. Of course, to do that, he has to read their depositions, and call upon the indulgence of the court every 10 mins or so, and naturally, he can be as confronting to the witness as he pleases, or as oily.. .:anguish:

Yes, but he is not the brightest. I am not sure that he will be able to make his cross examining of the witnesses anything more than looking like a domestic argument.

Scary. You don't want to be in a domestic argument with this man.

So where does he sit Troop.
In the glassed box.
Does he just come out when it is his turn to ask questions of the witnesses? :D:doh::notgood:

The old saying, ' A man who represents himself in court has a fool for a client' could have been designed for Holdom...
