GUILTY Australia - Kiesha Weippeart, 6, Mount Druitt, NSW, 18 July 2010 - #2

So she has finally conceded defeat .. took her long enough! Good to see Allison Anderson on the news still there for Kiesha after all these years ..

A former neighbour and family friend Alison Anderson says it provides closure for the community.

"Like I've always said, I was a very lucky and blessed person, and she'll always touch our hearts," she said.

"She became a big part of everybody's family and a daughter that no-one ever knew that they had."

When Kiesha first went missing Alison stood by her mother before it became clear that she herself was responsible, then she stood by Kiesha until justice was done .. I think that is a great example of humanity, she didn't rush to judgement, but once she saw the sad truth for what it was she was simply a voice for the victim. Thank you for your grace, wherever you are Alison .. so glad there will finally justice for this poor little girl, who never had much of a chance in life :(

The couple's former neighbor Alison Alexander said Robert Smith’s sentence isn’t long enough. "It would never cover for any of it" she said.

I was pleased to hear Robert's father say he agreed with the sentence his son received.

No word on whether Robert's mother and brother attended the hearing.
Robert's mother thought Robert and Kristi should have been allowed to attend Kiesha's funeral.

wth? did they attend?

You see it time and time again, some kids have just go no hope purely due to the families they are born into, its a heartbreaker. I stare at the faces of the kids who are smiling in their photos - what a farce their lives are.

I think Kristi is more the sort who dishes it out in prison than takes it ... if she had a grown man cowered, sure she might get some trouble but I think it won't take long for her to get the upperhand. She will probably thrive in that environment with lots of people to abuse.

Kiesha is beyond our help. I hope that today someone who knows the next little boy or girl suffering this fate, does something that gets the ball rolling to get them safe. Poor Kiesha had no one, they are all complicit, and I'd say more but I am pretty sure it is against TOS.

Kiesha Weippeart's mother pleads guilty to her murder

THE mother of Kiesha Weippeart has pleaded guilty to murdering her six-year-old daughter in western Sydney, averting the need for a trial.

Kristi Anne Abrahams, 30, entered the plea on what was expected to be the first day of her trial in Sydney, staring straight ahead at the Supreme Court bench in Sydney and answering to the charge of murder: “Guilty.”

AFTER the tearful denials and frantic pleas for the safe return of a daughter she knew would never come home, there was only one word left for Kristi Anne Abrahams to say.

"Guilty," the 30-year-old said in a measured and polite tone yesterday as she admitted in the NSW Supreme Court to murdering her six year-old daughter Kiesha Weippeart.

Kristi Anne Abrahams pleads guilty to daughter Kiesha's murder
Kristi Anne Abrahams entered the plea of guilty to murder on the day the murder trial was due to begin.
Justice Ian Harrison had adjourned the case until next Monday, when her sentencing hearing will begin.
A group of supporters are in court to hear the plea.

A life filled with abuse: Kiesha murder
The abuse started years before Kiesha was murdered by her mother.
The little girl was just 15 months' old when Kristi Anne Abrahams viciously bit her daughter's shoulder.
Five years later, when Kiesha was reported missing by a seemingly distraught Abrahams and her partner Robert Smith, they described the little girl as "always happy, bubbly".
But that shoulder bite was only the first known incident in a short life filled with severe physical abuse.

Kiesha Weippeart a victim of mother's violence

The callousness of the pair was highlighted once more when they went shopping to buy Dora the Explorer toys for Kiesha just before reporting her missing, in a bid to ward off any suspicion from police

In 2005, when Kiesha was just 15 months, she was in hospital after Abrahams bit her. She was convicted of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and placed on a good behaviour bond.

After 18 months in DOCS care, during which time Abrahams was made to complete an anger management course, Kiesha was returned to her mother and stepfather in December 2006

No, they were not permitted to leave jail in order to attend Kiesha's funeral.

just on channel 10 news, police revealed, when her body was recovered there was evidence little kiesha had received two "upper cuts" which smashed her teeth together and broke her jaw in two places. i hope her mother is put away for a long time.

This article says "Kiesha had several injuries suggesting repeated assaults over the weeks and months before her death — injuries found only in the remains of children who suffered severe physical abuse."

IIRC, Kiesha did not attend school weeks before her death and her Uncle said Kiesha was happy when he saw her at a family birthday party just before she "disappeared".

It also says when Kristi and Robert transported Kiesha's body to the nearby bushland, they donned disguises!!!

i also read recently that from reports of the forensic examination of kiesha that its possible she took two days to finally die after the assault.
poor little soul, i hope she was unconscious and out of pain by then.
i wonder if robert smith approached the undercover person or they befriended him in the pub or somewhere away from kristi?

Kiesha barely attended school for the whole year. The school year in Australia starts in January and by August Kiesha had only attended 5 days. I'm not sure who dropped the ball there (school or authorities), but the HSLO officer should have been in contact with the family nearly constantly by that stage.

Are B and L <modsnip> in out of home care now? The police said that they weren't able to interview B <modsnip> because of severe language delays. Have there been any updates on her?

Those poor babies. Hopefully they are in good homes and Kiesha's death has saved them from neglect and abuse and a crappy lifestyle.

Robert said Kiesha lost consciousness immediately after her mother attacked her and she died the following day so imo, Kiesha wasn't in any pain before she passed.

I thought the police discovered the couple's plan to visit Kiesha's gravesite because they had their phones tapped but this article said "Eventually, Smith cracked and confessed to an undercover cop. Smith and Abrahams were later arrested at Kiesha’s makeshift grave in April 2011 — eight months after reporting her missing on what would have been her seventh birthday.

“The full details of Abrahams’ crime will be revealed at her sentencing hearing next week"

<snipped>

“A fatal blow to her jaw, delivered by her mother’s hand, took more than a day to kill her.”

"Smith heard "a loud bang" coming from Kiesha's bedroom on the night he found her unconscious on the floor. He said she was still breathing but couldn't wake up so he put her to bed and left. The next morning he went to work as normal and when he returned, Kiesha was dead."

No, tmk there has not been any updates on the couple's two children but I don't think they are staying with relatives.

Yes that's true. Kiesha visited Kristi Abrahams in the hospital after Kristi gave birth to a boy perhaps a month or so before Kiesha was murdered. Kristi and Chris's son, Kiesha's brother, died from crib death.
His death was investigated.

Kristi stayed with Chris's mother for a short time after she gave birth to her first child. Shortly after she returned to her own home, the baby died.

There's a photo in a MSM report of Kiesha sitting on a hospital bed eating chips in her mother's hospital room after Kristi gave birth to her and Robert's second child, a boy. Robert’s mother's in the picture too. No one reported seeing any signs of physical abuse on Kiesha.

MOO

“She clung to life for 24 hours, enduring what must have been extraordinary pain and distress.”

I didn’t feel any physical pain in my body when I lost consciousness. When I was racing my bike down a trail, the front fender came loose and when it collided with the tire, I went flying. When I woke up and regained consciousness, I didn’t know I’d been in an accident until I was shown the cuts and scrapes on my body. My last memory was of riding down the trial. While unconscious I wasn’t aware of anything including time so I don’t know how long I was unconscious. I don’t recall having an OBE or near death experience. MOO

thats reassuring, hopefully kiesha stayed unconscious to the pain and fear then and just slipped away, her brain shutting down protectively.
sorry about your accident though!
probably good you were saved from remembering the trauma!

that photo of kiesha visiting the hospital is so sad, she looks bloated and ill, she always had her mouth closed, and im wondering if her teeth had been punched out.
surely close family saw how unhappy she was, i realise it would have been hard to intervene with kristi being so volatile but one of them could have gently offered to take kiesha for a week to give her mother a break etc, the violence and stress at this time was obviously escalating. no wonder the other little girl is nearly mute!
