GUILTY Australia - Kiesha Weippeart, 6, Mount Druitt, NSW, 18 July 2010 - #2

I don't have a link but Jamie has posted one that should suffice.
Fruity I do agree with your surmise re the dad.
It (child support) isn't relevant here, there were many people who saw/knew/suspected abuse. The fault lies in our system more than anything else, that she wasn't removed, (imo.)
This needs to change and let's hope it does.

Sorry but I don't really see how child support is an issue here. Just wanted to clarify.

If your name as a father is not on the birth certificate. Any claims you have to the child are not noted. Moo

Did you mean a link about child support/visitation or about Chris saying he didn't visit enough?
His name was on her birth certificate I thought. There are various news reports about this but I didn't save them. He also said (supposedly) that he paid support actively.

It is not within the requirements of any parent to be prevented from seeing a child because they don't pay child support. The father was in ill health and not working as I understand it.
It is a moral thing in my opinion. I remember he said the mother made it difficult but he gave up too easily.

Thanks for this. Do you have a link to back your statement?

Double post. But any links?

There are 2 parts to my opinion, which part are you questioning? the child support/visitation or the father's illhealth and giving up too easily.

Despite paying maintenance for the six-year-old, Mr Weippeart insisted he had not seen her for several years prior to her disappearance.
Mr Weippeart had not seen Kiesha for more than two years, and had not had regular contact with his daughter since he and Ms Abrahams split when Kiesha was two.

Ms Weippeart complained she and her son had not been kept up to date on police progress. "It would be a common courtesy to come and see the family, especially the father."

She also questioned why everyone was calling her Kiesha Abrahams when the name on her birth certificate is Weippeart. She said: "I know where Aiden is. I can go and see Aiden every day. I know where my grandson is, but where's my granddaughter?

I did not know this.

I posted on another thread about rights of fathers. As I am a woman, I was gutted that I was told that only in the dark ages and an island off Tas were any 50 50 custody.

A question to Dad's here. What do you do while paying money but have no responsibility? To Mum's what do you do when your child is in need of specialist care?

I really believe that Chris Weippeart did everything he could. He didn't opt out of paying child support, ever. Kiesha's dad is a victim in this too. The poor man had terrible health (so much that it caused his very premature death). He lost his son. He lost his daughter. It sounds to me like Kristi Abrahams is violent towards everyone in her life. Robert Smith was afraid of her because of her abuse towards him, so it's not too much to think that she was also abusive towards Chris Weippeart as well.

I would like to know what it takes to get a child into foster care in this country and who is going to answer for how badly the system failed this poor child!!! GEE did you miss the signs???

I mean COME ON!!! :banghead:

its shocking! the docs case worker should have been keeping a close eye on her expecially since she had already been assaulted as a toddler by her mother.
so, a child with obvious signs of abuse tells you their mother put her cigarette out on you, you have the power to do something and you do nothing? its beyond belief!!
her foster parents must be heart broken.
i hope kristi is given a life sentence or at least until she is unable to have any more children!

"Ms Abrahams and Smith attempted to destroy all evidence they thought could implicate them in the deceased's death including removing evidence from the unit and throwing away their clothes, shoes and mobile phone SIM cards," the papers said.

According to the agreed facts, "Smith burned the deceased's body prior to burial, burned the suitcase they had used to transport the body and threw away the hammer he used to dig the grave".

The papers say Abrahams was present for the disposal of her daughter's body.

Relatives cry as Sydney court hears murdered child Kiesha Weippeart suffered years of abuse

The papers state that DOCS had received various reports of injuries to Kiesha from neighbours and family members.

Education officials went to Abrahams's home several times because Kiesha was only at school four times in her life.

If a child is in imminent danger, then a call can be made to the police who can do a welfare check! Too often people call DOCS but nothing happens. In any case, the school should have acted faster than they did considering the response they received from Kristi. DOCS should give themselves an uppercut. I'm disgusted with all these revelations, particularly the DOCS staffer who did nothing when Kiesha confided in her! Poor little mite.

yes, and if kristi was queried about the burn she would have taken her anger out on kiesha, which is so sad because she would have learnt at a very early age not to trust anyone and would have felt so alone.

Murdered Kiesha 'suffered for months'
Relatives and loved ones of a Sydney girl murdered by her own mother have broken down in court as a pathologist described the series of severe injuries she suffered in the weeks before her death, suggesting that she was subjected to sustained abuse.
"I didn't even know her and I loved her more than you!" one woman in the gallery said loudly as Kiesha Weippeart's mother, Kristi Anne Abrahams, was taken away at the end of the Supreme Court sentencing hearing.

Relatives cry as Sydney court hears murdered child Kiesha Weippeart suffered years of abuse
Court documents have revealed murdered Sydney girl Kiesha Weippeart suffered years of abuse at the hands of her mother, including being bitten and burnt with a cigarette.

'Mum did that', Kiesha reported abuse
Family and friends say Abrahams was angered that Kiesha resembled her biological father, Chris Weippeart.
Family members, neighbours and friends of Abrahams said Kiesha "frequently had bruising to different parts of her body", while teachers and nurses told police about bruises on her head and face.
Abrahams was seen hitting and screaming abuse at Kiesha on "multiple occasions" and the little girl used to flinch when her mother casually raised an arm in conversation.
