Waves at Mr Ralston from the Sydney Morning Herald

You're Welcome :)

Might be arrogrant of me, but the facebook find leads me to believe that his article is from here. That one wasn't the easiest tidbit to come across.

Facebook's robots.txt prevent it from being indexed in thewaybackmachine, It took some digging to verify the indexer of pages was legit.

:-)

I'm just happy that the "business high-flyer" image from yesterday is done with.

As Sydney speculated about the woman's motives in remaining loyal to a convicted killer, her mother, Karen Welcome (she says Rachelle Louise is a "stage name'' and her full name is Rachelle-Louise Welcome), sprung to her defence, saying her daughter is a strong and smart woman, who is in love with "an innocent man".

"I never feared her going out with Simon. When we found out about his murder charge, of course I was concerned, as any mother would be," Mrs Welcome said.

(Now Mum's getting in on the act)

Looking at the last posts of Makara, Fig Tree & Ihavenoclue are all very very early morning posts & I'm hoping this horror isn't keeping you all from sleep. Take care my sleuth-friends.

Lisa's thunder was stolen that day
It was her day to have her say.
She has been silenced in life and death. It was her day to say-

I wasn't crazy,
I wasn't suicidal,
IT WASNT SUICIDE!
I left a note-look!
Run from these types
he's a murderer
A 🤬🤬🤬🤬 & a drug criminal
There's more to come
The police now know the rest

HE KILLED ME!

But no, the theatrics of the day are not going to silence Lisa & Joan's sacrifice for a better life for all women.
That's what I want to convey.

Lisa died for awareness
white ribbon day

This is a heartbreaking story, just so sad anyone of us could be Lisa or Joan.

Read more: Trial shines light on Lisa Harnum's 'sad, tragic' final days

28 Nov 2013

"Gittany unable to pay for defence

When the trial began last month he was broke.

His girlfriend was paying their rent of $500 a week.

A series of loans he was counting on from family and friends to pay for his defence, failed to materialise.

He and his family had already spent more than $200,000 on legal fees."

Strangely enough, a surge of pity for his 'plight' is NOT welling up in my heart...

Is this a plea for donations...?

What a 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬.

I just have to say, I find the article with RL's mum weird.

http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/ne...by-simon-gittany/story-fni0cx12-1226770896380

"I never feared her going out with Simon. When we found out about his murder charge, of course I was concerned, as any mother would be," Mrs Welcome said. "But I tested him out, I questioned him and caused arguments to see how he'd behave. He's a kind and considerate man."

Well yeah, he's not going to come right out and say "Hi my name's Simon and I abuse women because it makes me feel like a real man".

As Justice Lucy McCallum delivered her guilty verdict on Wednesday, Mrs Welcome reacted similarly to her daughter's public outburst.

"I collapsed myself ... We did not restrain Rachelle, because it was White Ribbon Day the other day, remember."

WTF?

When she said 'restrain' I had this image of them all, out of respect for White Ribbon Day, waiting until they got home before sticking a muzzle on RL..

<modsnip>

eta: it REALLY bothers me that she is not all 'OH THANK GOD we found out what he was like, before it was too late..".

Sorry for the extra post -- but I'm just so completely gobsmacked by the stupidity exhibited in that comment. :\

That is what I was afraid of... :sigh:

I wouldn't worry too much. She's already making a big fool of herself. My gut tells me current affairs programs like 60 mins will probably approach for an interview, but she'll want to be paid (of course) and they all know that doesn't go down well in the public's eye. I think she's already on track for a ruined career before it's even started. IMO.

:trainwreck:

It is evident to me why she thinks her daughter is smart.

I can't access the dailytelegraph link - is there a way of posting the article without subscribing ? :fence:

It is free to subscribe JJ. Article talks a lot about the radio interview that we heard.

"SHE claims to have stripped in Las Vegas, tongue kissed Woody Harrelson in New York and accepted diamond necklaces from strangers who took her to dinner: and then she dated Simon Gittany."

"She did occasional work at Spearmint Rhino gentleman's club in Vegas, and as a masseuse in London."

"Ms Louise told the radio host she had started dating "an older man" back home in Sydney."

I just don't know the wisdom of deliberately causing arguments to see how someone reacts.

Regardless of who that person was (ie SG) it's just a really manipulative and callous thing to do.

And if you're only judging someone through false arguments you've contrived, it's not a great judgement at all - hardly shows that she was a great careful parent, more of a manipulative drama queen.

Quote: <respectfully snipped>

"Sure - bullying is an horrendous problem that is just so damaging to the victim's self esteem. It also completely reinforces any pre-existing negative beliefs about the self!

From my perspective though, any random young woman will not fall for an abusive, controlling male - the internal 'patterning' has to be there. For example, if a young woman was brought up to believe in her independence and not to rely on a man to complete her, she would probably be repulsed by the guy as soon as his controlling tendencies began to emerge! But even more likely, the two of them wouldn't even be attracted to each other in the beginning as their issues don't match up".

Just thought I'd bump forward this post by Isisrising which may offer some insight into the current unease with RL's perceived attitude and presentation in MSM.

Question is: Was she 'in love with SG?' or 'was she playing a role?'
Was she a victim in the making or is it a case of 'two of the same kind'?' Did she know of his criminal past? that he was charged with murder?
dealt drugs? etc Many questions at this time.

What gets me is that her mother's litmus test for whether or not he's a murderer, AFTER he's accused and therefore it is obviously in his -best interest- to keep his cool, is whether or not he attacks her (over whom he would not WANT control..) in some petty argument.

I support research into finding a cure for stupid. :banghead:

Something I REALLY struggle to understand in these cases is how the supporters of the murderers keep on preaching their innocence...
Honestly, in this case, the evidence is irrefutable! Can RL, her mum, his family explain how she went over the balcony without leaving any prints? Can they explain why a witness would fabricate such a story and risk making such dangerous enemies (bearing in mind that he no longer even lives in Australia! maybe he left for his safety?). I mean, none of it makes sense!!! Is it just a face for the public, behind closed doors do they really believe it? I guess SG's family haven't proclaimed his innocence, so maybe they believe his guilt? But RL and her mother, they're going out of their way, making themselves look incredibly foolish!

What goes on inside the heads of these people?

  • #138
Thanks SouthAussie - I just read the Telegraph article re : the mother.
So, RL is part Sri Lankan, not Portuguese as has been often stated.

I really don't know what to say except "What's wrong with some people" ? Honestly. The way some people think is beyond words. I also noticed in the video of that article (on the court day), that a reporter said that the Gittany sister's are blaming the media for the judge-only decided trial. I think all the SG-campers are grasping at straws now. If just one representative from the family stood up and showed some compassion or a tiny bit of acceptance for this horrific crime, I would probably feel some compassion for them. But they haven't and so I don't. Some of my own friends think I am wrong for bringing the family into this, but when you read that SG's own mother attacked a policeman and a sister hurled abuse, you've got to form the impression of a bad bunch living under the same roof. Shame on them. He wanted a judge-only trial and he got it. It didn't work in his favour - bad luck. In hindsight, had SG had any compassion and a tidbit of honesty in his system, he may have been able to accept a manslaughter charge - but NO, he dug his Versace heels in and the result (so far) is the worst they could have imagined - bad luck. IMO.

Oh, and spare a thought for his hardworking Defence lawyer and legal team. Doesn't sound like the bill's going to get paid after all. IMO. :snooty:
