Chris Dawson allegedly threatened to "get rid of" his ex-wife during a marriage counselling session before she vanished from Sydney's northern beaches 37 years ago, a court has heard.

Crown prosecutor Craig Everson told the court that during a counselling session, Mr Dawson told Ms Dawson, "if this doesn't work, I'll get rid of you".

"The accused approached another person, a man who had criminal connections, about how he'd go about getting rid of his ex-wife," Mr Everson said.

How did they find out about this? Was the Counsellor found?
She was his wife, not his ex.

A house worth over $1 million. I didn't think his Mt Coolum house was worth that, about $655,000 according to a real estate site, or his rental in Runaway Bay surely wouldn't be worth that. Is there another house?

Looks like a few more million downloads too.

Inflated ego = inflated self worth = inflated value of assets. At least he’s consistent in these areas Comparable house values in Coolum don’t support the $1 million plus. And would it require Sue to agree if jointly owned?

The lawyer brother of accused killer Chris Dawson has erupted outside court, moments after learning his brother will spend another weekend behind bars.

Peter Dawson has erupted outside court moments after his brother Chris, who was sensationally charged with the murder of his first wife Lyn, made a desperate bail bid.

Outside the court, his lawyer brother Peter Dawson lashed out at reporters, and accused one of assaulting him.

Peter Dawson previously told The Daily Telegraph that passports were not required to travel to New Zealand from Australia at the time of Ms Dawson’s disappearance, and suggested she may have gone there. This week, he told 7 News that Ms Dawson may have been killed by notorious backpacker serial killer Ivan Milat.

The court heard that if the case went to trial it would not start until the year 2020 at the earliest, meaning Mr Dawson would be behind bars for at least 18 months without a conviction, if he is refused bail.

“We don’t know where Lyn is. I hope she is living happily somewhere in the world,” he said.

I assume they're saying ex-wife because he eventually went through divorce proceedings with regard to her.

Yes that's what I thought - otherwise half of that surely??

“The Crown asked that if Mr Dawson was granted bail, he surrender his passport, reside at his third wife’s address and report daily to police.”

This has peeked my interest. Is it HER address or his and Sue’s? Is his 3rd wife going to be around to support him through this ordeal?

It would be difficult to offer it up as security if she’s cut loose and wants her share.

Do they all have tempers? Not a good look, considering the circumstances.

Yep. Saw this on channel 7 news tonight. Let me tell you he sounded and acted just like Paul when A current Affair ambushed Paul and Chris on the Gold Coast. If anyone can find the video?

joannes parents were separated.
her dad didn't like it, wanted her to move in with him (which was another area of Sydney) and told her to cut it out with the teacher or he wouldn't talk to her (not verbatim but general gist)
joannes mother has lied here and there about it all.
reading between the lines think it was just convenient to have one less hassle in the house with mums new boyfriend.

so joanne did have options.
she chose to be with her lover and stop talking to her dad.

iirc moo

I don't think Joanne's home with either of her parents was very pleasant. Seems the home was violent and Joanne's mum drank heavily to "cope" with that.

Margot Curtis
Joanne’s mother, now deceased. Margot had a fractious relationship with Joanne, and she drank to deal with her difficult and violent home life. Following Lyn’s disappearance, Margot told police she did not think her daughter Joanne was in a romantic relationship with Chris.

John Curtis
Joanne’s father. John said Margot told him of the sexual relationship between Chris and Joanne when his daughter was still at school. He asked Joanne about it, and she denied it. John never confronted Chris Dawson, nor reported the sports teacher.

Should Chris Dawson not get bail, and why should he? It will provide him with a year or two to reflect....on what a horrible, selfish piece of bloody work he is.

Plus her stepfather is reported to have been a violent and abusive alcoholic. Joanne said that at the time Chris came for her, after Lyn's disappearance, after Joanne had been trying to break up with Chris, that after the holiday she had really nowhere else to go. That's how she felt.

Yes, I think Chris chose Joanne well. Beautiful, young (very!), compliant (at the time), presumably good with the children, horrible home life that she wanted/needed to get away from .....

Yep, she ticked all the predictor's boxes as far as pretty, young vulnerable victims go.

Remember too, Chris Dawson started grooming Joanne when she was still in year 11. What a creep!!

So, what year was she in when he moved her into his bed? She would not have finished year 12 at 16.

Joanne had just finished her high school education and Chris moved her in January 82 when she had completed her studies

I think Joanne likely completed at Year 11, at 16 years old. Not everyone did Year 12 back then. The students that went on to Year 12 were mostly heading off to Uni after high school.

They could leave after year ten then though, couldn't they?

Maybe she was going to do year 12 but could not because of step mothering duties.
