But is the treaty actually accomplishing those goals? And I am talking about outside of this case. Were there discussions and negotiations about including extradition of criminal defendants as well?

A murder suspect from Canada had fled to Hong Kong last year. One year on, there's still no news of finding him. Let alone extradition.

It happened in Australia.
She fled to her home country but was successfully extradited to Australia.
But this case went quiet.
Was there a trial?
And I'm not sure where she fled to.
Was it China?
Or Hong Kong?

But extradition to Australia was successful.

Oh well...

I checked - thank you for the link.
She allegedly murdered her kids in NZ.
But....
fled to South Korea.
And was extradited to NZ without problems.
