Has anyone tried to track down this TV show ? I assume a doco

Ms Wilsons' statement also made mention of a TV show segment about The Brethren at Byron Bay. How there was a woman in it that she thought was Marion. The segment was recorded but not kept.
I've been looking but haven't found anything yet. The only thing I have found is that Marion could probably be mistaken for The Brethren leader's wife, they look remarkably similar in all the images I've seen. Will keep looking.
Exclusive Brethren

Just listening to this but it is not the Byron Bay one.

I thought that as well, she did look similar at first glance.

Would have been helpful knowing what year, and interesting they thought the person was similar enough to record it.

This one is in Ballina which is very close to Byron. Is Brethren Assemblies the same as exclusive brethren?
Brethren assemblies (as their gatherings are most often called) are divided into the Open Brethren and the Exclusive Brethren.

Itsapuzzle I have looked at the FB profile and cannot see any resemblance although we may be looking at two different churches than the one sunnynz is referring too.
Marion liked her men so didn't follow celibacy before marriage ;). Also most churches have values about about reconciliation unless of course a cult.
I do recall though that before her disappearance she attended one of her friends churches for a dance or weekend away though as there is a clip somewhere of her dancing.

Marion was filmed a community dance in Queensland in 1995.
It was a weekend away with a church at Lake Moogerah
No mention of the church denomination although I presume from sleuthing it was as follows:-
United Church of God.
It does seem to be regarded as a cult in some Christian circles but not an organisation I have heard about before so cannot comment either way.
Concerning Cults- The United Church of God
No mention of the venue but I would presume
CAMP MOOGERAH
The Lady Vanishes: Marion Barter's final dance caught on camera
Footage of this dance can be found on FB as the link on Lady vanishes page is not working.

It looks like the United Church of God is a breakaway group from the Worldwide Church of God. Before 1996 it would have been part of the other organisation.
Correct me if I am wrong but as far as I can tell one of Marion's former teachers aids belongs to the United Church of God and Marion was invited to their weekend away back in 1995. There is nothing to suggest that Marion followed their teachings but I think it is a better follow up than the Brethren church in my opinion. o_O

The more I read about the Brethren, the less I'm thinking Marion got mixed up with it. So, what on earth was that old magazine in the LA library that someone found that is "a huge clue", hey!!! What in the world is it ....... probably nothing to do with religion, cults, sects, but what the heck was it? I wish someone would fill us in, I mean, it's in a library for all to see, h'mm? Anyone? How is it a huge clue ...... I'm back on the magazine search.

Wasn't the magazine lead said to have been checked out and found to go nowhere ?

Oooh, I've not heard anything about that Toots, do you remember where you heard that from? I haven't heard a thing about it since it was first mentioned. And if it led nowhere then they should be able to tell us what the magazine was, at least, or show us a screenshot ... so we can move on :)

Itsapuzzle, it was either on this thread or in one of the latest podcasts.
Or in one of the news stories. It was about the time that the inquest began or in the weeks before.

I remember thinking when I read it or heard ? it, that I would still have wanted to know why someone thought it might be a lead.
It actually lead me to try having another look at any magazines in archive.org. That was in the past few months.

Trying to remember and I'm not sure, but I think I heard it, rather than read it, and it was one of the podcasts around the inquest time or not long before.

I'll have a listen to some if you like, toss me some episodes and I'll play them while doing my Sunday lockdown chores :)
I can work my way back from the last episode.
Meanwhile, was poking around looking for magazines on Trove when I got the idea maybe it was a magazine about schools, as in Steiner, Waldorf, etc - I came across this link if anyone wants to have a look. The interesting thing is that Marion renewed her teaching licence for the next year, even though she filled in her passenger card to/from Australia with occupation as "home duties" and intending to live in Luxembourg. That's pretty interesting.

Actually listening again seems more interesting than the first time.

So far I've listened to Bonus Coversations 20 and The Inquest Part 1.

They're here. Unlike some other sites you don't need to join. The Lady Vanishes on acast
