This makes sense. I found it weird in Jo’s testimony the stop over in Bali seemed pointless. As did the Amsterdam leg of the trip… nothing touristy seemed to be done in Bali nor Amsterdam.. seems strange to me going and not actually seeing or doing much. So it makes perfect sense that stopovers are required to switch identities before arriving in Europe. I suspect maybe the tickets are done in legs to. Eg. Australia - Bali one airline then Bali - Amsterdam different airline. If not the same passport would have to be used.

Returning to this point, my impression when I listened to JO was that Ric Richard had promised her a fabulous trip abroad, they would go to Bali, to Amsterdam, to her home country the UK, all very enticing. IMO these were the kinds of promises (bait) that would hook a woman into letting him do certain things like temporarily retain possession of all her personal documents.

He fulfilled his promises in only the strictest sense: they went to these places but he refused to even attempt to offer anything she'd actually enjoy.

IMO, promising and then failing to deliver more than the bare minimum, is part of the subtle psychology of manipulation and gaining more secure control over another person.

Similarly, I think to gain complete control of MBs money would have required a slow process of solidifying the relationship, reducing her sense of her own needs, wants and best interests, isolating her from other people for long periods of time, and so forth. Rushing this process would put the whole con at risk.

The only Reid I can find was William Reid a banker and trainer in Melbourne. The William Reid Stakes is a horse race named after him.. is MJ a part of that family?

Is there a street number for "The Terrace"? The Terrace is the name of a street, although there is also some holiday rental accommodation on the street called The Terrace with listings on airbnb and other holiday rental sites. It's close to the beach.
Was the specific address referred to in DdH's inquest testimony? I'll go back and have another listen.

Hey @StarrChance, I tried to find them again yesterday and couldn't. It was so long ago I don't remember what I searched: M J Reid, M Reid, Michael Reid, M J Read, M Read Michael Read. I'm sure it was on newspapers.com that I first saw them. I couldn't imagine Wonka-- or Ilona's husband-- owning a horse, so I didn't save them.

Dearest sister and family. Hope you are well.

It’s so special being back in this beautiful country after 30 years. This little village of Rye is so quaint and historic Not far from Hastings and the battle of 1066. Lots of interesting ruins and castles etc. Not so impressed with the beaches and cobblestones. No sand and people still sunbathe. It’s a gorgeous warm morning today. Great after a chilly and rainy few days. Food is great, though quite expensive. Antique shops are unbelievable and I feel quite peaceful and at home staying at an old farm oast with a nice family. I have seen squirrels and rabbits all over the countryside and green and blue spruces and silver birch trees growing wild. Lots of love to the family plus the most gorgeous hanging baskets you’ve ever seen.

Good bargains too. It's sad because I can’t possibly buy one more thing. Talk about shop till you drop. I’m totally in my element. Beautiful gardens, weather’s been fine, Wearing shorts. Delayed my Orient trip till late August, first available rebooking due to earlier rain and floods in Germany. I don’t want to leave The UK just yet. Heaps of private schools. Could’ve had a job at a local village school, relief but not ready yet. Lovely families in old oast houses I’ve stayed with and b&bs. Meet a Dutch dentist and a lady called Maz. Love you heaps M

Just listening to inquest day five (14 Feb), when DdH was questioned.

@2 hr 30 mins, it's revealed RB has been given the full brief of evidence. When asked if he's read all of it or jus parts of it, DdH said she doesn't know but assumes he did.

So, it is possible that after reading the brief, RB decided to deny his earlier statements, lol.

Hahahaha... At inquest, AC asked DdH if she was sure she met RB on the ship in Jan 1970? She said yes.
He then asked if it could have been later? She said no.

It's obvious AC knows about the 1971 Chusan trip when RB was 'Fredy David', lol.

Later, she also said she never heard of Fredy David!

I'm often aghast that these people actually believe no-one will uncover their secrets and lies. Then I remember they got away with everything for at least 25 years, so yeah, fair enough, their confidence is justified

I know they can fine and criminally charge people for lying at an inquest. I don't know if they will do that with RB and DdH, but there's certainly enough proof of perjury for both of them.

I cant figure if DDH is as cold as ice and just as conniving as RB or a complete doormat with the inability to think for herself ? She had 7 months between the first police call and the inquest, clearly she has choose to do nothing in getting her head around the situation or doesn't want to.

RB travelled as - Fredy David - but DDH said he was WW when she meet him on the ship - then changed his name to Fedrick DH - my guess is he introduced himself as Fredrick David or that Freddy was short for Fredrick and that's how the Rick nickname came about, but she lied when she said he travelled as WW (wonder why)

Thank you - gosh it really feels like she is travelling alone to me, only because we know from JO and DDH, that RB seems like a real kill joy and not interested in seeing the sights or doing anything of any real entertainment, only interested in ways of fleecing people - with JO he took her to slums in Bali and with his wife and family sounds like he liked to take trips without them or to get away from them.

He told police that last time he saw MB was when she dropped off tea chests to his home in wallanbah nsw

DDH testified that the last time RB told her he saw MB was in Queensland

possible part of the reason RB had to pull the my wife has a bad memory card
