@gymtonic I'll kick it off...
Feb 1977 *was arrested in Wiltz, Luxembourg as ROGER LAUZONEY born 1945 in Casablanca. He was in possession of his Australian FdH passport.

I couldn't find a Roger Lauzoney anywhere either. Found a Roger Lauzon, French Canadian photographer, who might just have been in a photography magazine by then..but unlikely tbh.

Possibly I let my old one lapse years ago and had them married so I had a name change.. I had to apply like I hadn’t had one before.. it still didn’t take long.

re: Lauzoney agree that spelling just doesn’t lead to ‘people’
My thoughts are a bit left of field.. Lazoney
Punta Lazoney to be exact. Mountain in the alps in Italy…

For those following the Lauzoney alias these were my complete notes (I didn't include all in the loose ends)
1. No Lauzoney or Lazoney or antonyms on searches

2. Lauzon is common name. French: from a diminutive of Lauze, a metonymic occupational name for a slater, derived from Gaulish lausa ‘slate’, ‘roofing stone’. His uncle was a mason?

3. DOB 1945 2 Jan (but also listed as 010245 on PASS system 27 August 81).

4. Transcription errors: Spelled as Lauloney on NAA doc 9/4/80;

5. Also spelled Lazoney on NAA cover

6. Also passenger movement verification check (22 April 1981) lists the alias name to be checked as “Louzoney”

7. Lauzon was a governor of Bordeaux.

8. Jean de Lauzon, Roger Lauzon Photographer Canada

9. Lauzon is a place name.

10. Alternative spellings:

o Lauzon: Most obvious. One of the most popular surnames in Canada and Philippines.Lauzon was a governor of Bordeaux. Jean de Lauzon Canada. Lauzon is a place name in Canada. Name meaning French: from a diminutive of Lauze, a metonymic occupational name for a slater, derived from Gaulish lausa ‘slate’, ‘roofing stone’. His uncle was a mason!

o Laisney: A number of Roger Laisney on Ancestry

o Luzney

o Lasnier

:) Maybe this was the one time he didn't steal someone's identity!

:) Maybe this was the one time he didn't steal someone's identity!
Yes I thought well maybe he was hanging out in the alps in Switzerland.. meeting climbers etc and someone mentioned It - most unlikely.. though. It doesn’t help with all the files having different versions of the spelling !

I've been doing a stocktake! of my "loose ends" list!
Some are relatively unimportant. If anyone can shed light (or thoughts) on any of these it would be appreciated:

1. Who is Roger Lauzoney? (spelt 4 different ways in NAA docs) it is one of the early aliases in use and would seem to be significant. Lauzoney and antonyms do not seem to exist as a surname variant anywhere. Of possible alternatives, Lauzon is the most common - One of the most popular surnames in Canada and Philippines. Lauzon was a governor of Bordeaux. (more detail in notes). Morocco as birthplace is an outlier compared to other aliases. (AC asks about Morocco).

2. Did DJPD really fight in Spanish Civil War as Aka said he did? Very few Belgians fought in Spanish Civil War. How long was he in Spain fighting? How was RB conceived in 1938 if his father was fighting in civil war in Spain? Why was he executed? Why did he come back so long after the end of the Spanish Civil War?

3. What happened to Desiree Jnr? And why does RB never use his name as an alias? (NB apart from maybe the company in NC)

4. Was it the Tournai Etats Civil that was bombed leading to no birth records? Website says records were transferred to Mons before this date, 1895 and did not return until 1964.

5. WW Starts life of crime a year after leaving Gendarmerie. Why does he leave Gendarmerie? DdeH says horse injury but he leaves 4 years after that. Belgian Gendarmerie at that time was riddled with corrupt officers that required an inquiry and clean sweep. Is it possible he committed an offence and was kicked out? Is it possible he made his criminal contacts here?

6. How did WW get the “horse” injury in 1960? Horses phased out of Gendarmerie by then, but he claims he left due to injury, got huge compensation payout and had years of rehabilitation in Switzerland (but able to ski!). Later medical report states injury operated on, healed well with no deformities

7. What was the involuntary injury offence on 10 May 1966? is it connected to RB tales of assaults or even the horse injury? [NB Involuntary Injury: Product liability and safety in Belgium = In the case of injury or death caused by a defective product, there is also a risk of criminal prosecution. Under Article 418 of the Criminal Code a person who causes harm by negligence, without intent to harm the person, can be guilty of involuntary manslaughter or injury.

8. Was the Rue des Francs, 46, Etterbeek the HQ of dodgy business? How many people connected to it (WW, IK…). IK also has a criminal charge for traffic/haulage before migrating to Oz.

9. What happened to IK’s brother? Also, her application says her parents are under separate application. Did they migrate too?

10. WW and IK leave Australia around 12 months after arriving, despite a condition of their migration / residency permit being that they remain in Australia for at least 2 years. Did WW and IK actually have a baby when it is reported? He is not present at the birth but registers it. Is it really theirs? Both IK and WW travel to Belgium and then what? Why does the baby travel on its own on a separate flight? All these movements are highly suspicious!

11. Why did he volunteer the information that IK died in a car crash? sleuths found heart as a cause of death. NB medical report for migration shows no abnormal heart volume. Is this a case of a story from somewhere else and applied here?

12. OC: Who is the accountant Armand X? in Belgium. Is there more to him? Financial arm? And JAL contact the travel organiser?

13. Complaint by Mdme. Andree Flamee. When? And what?

14. Why do DdH and FdH go to live in Bordeaux for a few months in 1980s? and why did AC not ask about this? (wine trade? There was a crime ring stealing expensive wine)

15. How can DdeH be in Oz (arr. 21 Jan 1981 and no apparent departure again) when daughter is born in Luxembourg 17 April 1981?

16. Aka must have been in Oz on 29 Jan 1986 to renew his lapsed NSW licence 2075TU as Chaim FD Dehedervary (address 4/6a Rangers Ave, Cremourne) because there is a cash register imprint of payment on the doc in NAA. When did he arrive and what name?

17. Why does Aka fly in to Oz via Philippines on 2 Jan 1986. This is not a usual route between Europe and Oz and seems more like a side trip than a stopover destination.

18. Did MB change name by deed poll on May 15 1997? And then next day (16 May 1997) application for passport signed by dentist at QTUH. Then flies on June 22 with new passport. How is this possible in the time it usually takes to get a new passport? (at least 6 weeks??)

19. What is the attack on RB at Pacific Fair (mentioned in inquest) all about? Given we suspect that attacks are usually false to cover up something - what, and when in this instance?

20. Why did MB apply for a passport on 6 July 1996 (in MB name?) and then the FNMR passport a year later?

21. Why would MB link a statement about going to Amsterdam and taking the Orient Express around the same time? In 1997 you would not go to Amsterdam to get on OE. More likely to take it from Victoria station or Paris. Also which route of the OE was MB intending to take? The usual route (London to Venice) would not be affected by the floods in Germany. Is it possible that MB intended taking the alternative route that goes to Bucharest?!

22. Why does DdH say RB had “no big money wins” in 2012 when asked by AC about financial situation?
22. Because IF she is unaware of his dodgy dealings.. anytime he has come home with significant amounts of money he has probably said… I won it!

or

he is a complete gambler which is why they have no money now?

To some degree what he does is quite similar.. the chase of the prize or win, the poker face of needing others to believe you… and the thrill that comes with actually pulling off one of his schemes… that’s the dopamine….
All very similar to that of a compulsive gambler.

Yes I thought well maybe he was hanging out in the alps in Switzerland.. meeting climbers etc and someone mentioned It - most unlikely.. though. It doesn’t help with all the files having different versions of the spelling !
I am not clear whether Roger L is an alias with a fake ID or a stolen ID. By this time, RB has been in Aus for some years, name could even be 'Lawson' written by a french speaker?[/QUOTE]

1976 was the first documented use of the alias as far as I can tell so it was quite an early one. From a French speaking perspective though, I did ponder if it was a contraction of Lauzon né (which would be pronounced Lauzoney) and would mean the birth surname i.e. Lauzon at birth (where the name has been changed since birth!).

@gymtonic Re: #13. I think the info on Mrs Andrée Flamée goes like this. She was of French/Belgian descent (?) and after the death of her husband, her son-in-law informed her about a Belgian coin collector who could be a contact for the sale of one of her late husband's (valuable) coins. FdeH was the assayer and Mrs Flammée accused him of trying to steal the coin when he visited her at home. It appears things were resolved and what eventually became of the coin is unknown.(?) However, in 2010, she wrote to an authority (? police, embassy) concerned that the same man (FdeH) was wanted by the Belgian police. The exact contents of Mrs Flamée's letter is restricted but held in the Queensland Government Archives, item #174345. Hope this helps. Corrections and additions warmly welcomed!

There's a Robert Gordon Walker mentioned twice in this document from 1954. Not sure when they came to Australia though, but it would explain the travel, etc, progression through the ranks to Company Director.

Gambling is not a past time that results in a person having any money :D I know this as I attended some Gamblers Anonymous meetings to support a friend and the stories were mindblowing. Tends to be the case that when a person 'wins' something briefly and temporarily, they quickly lose it in some hair brained scheme or higher stake, higher risk gambles. For example someone who wins a chunk on the horses invests it in buying a share of a racehorse.

Sorry @gymtonic, can't get this post to quote your remarks below 1976 was the first documented use of the alias as far as I can tell so it was quite an early one. Also not clear from NAA file whether RB was imprisoned for those offences after being arrested in Luxembourg.

Idea about nr1: Lauzonay: first used verbally and answered a question with Lauzon/Lauzon née (born Lauzon/Lauson, birthname), and maybe later used the name that was written at that time?

But anyway, you get what I am saying in regard to what RJW work is and why such a connection to all the 'butchers'.

Fabulously interesting, good on ya. I just love those Andersons, hey, and their ongoing sausage sagas and dramas playing out in the newspapers. Haha, he even tried to name a horse after a sausage but alas the Racing Board wouldn't allow it.
So, is it absolutely confirmed that the RGW Chairman of the Smallgoods Association is DW's father? I did notice on one of the travel cards he said "Place of birth, Western Australia", but on other cards they say they're "British", so was just a bit confused about that.

Thank you
