I am so glad that that video has been made on youtube by Dark Curiosities, it has 300k views which is great in terms of the case reaching an international audience! Thought it would be worth some sleuthers investigating some of the commenters? Some of them are very insensitive and the mind wonders who could be commenting them ...
Thanks for referring the video. I am watching it now, but isn't it a shame even more new mis-reportings are creeping in. I feel like I want to start a corrections bot to keep everything on track (especially re the $500 vs $5000 discussion, or the 3 days vs 8 days discussion). This episode says MC was the widow of the real FR. It's little muddying-of-the-water things like that which have plagued this case since the first day.

Nymboida

20,000 acres of red cedar trees .

Hi everyone, I haven’t posted much but have followed the podcast, inquest and the threads here since day one. Wow. The work you’ve all done is so impressive. The dots are really starting to connect.

I think it’s interesting to note that Nymboida is only around 160km’s from Armidale along one big road. I lived near Nymboida and the area is actually known for red cedar trees. Some nearby towns were built off the back of logging red cedar and there are still descendants of those logging families in the area. A plantation of 20,000 red cedars would be a rare thing as most of these trees were logged in the 18/1900’s. I’ve been finding myself wondering if Marion might be buried somewhere near a lot of red cedar trees somewhere between Nymboida and Armidale. Just a niggling thought.

20,000 trees or 20,000 acres of trees? Just had a cursory glance on google maps and it looks like there's way too much national park for any private person to own 20,000 acres around there (maybe I'm wrong).

I’m not sure if acres or trees? I would agree that either way it’s very unlikely a private person would own something like this. Most of the big old logging properties have been sold off anyway to my knowledge. I’ve heard through small town gossip that some of the big ones are now publicly owned. There seems to be a thread of truth that runs through many of the lies. With Armidale and Nymboida so close together, it makes you wonder what the true connection is to this area.

Yes I don't really understand why he admitted to knowing Marion when I don't think he had to admit to anything,

It seems to me that if he denied knowing Marion they can't prove that he did.

Unless he likes being the centre of attention and enjoys playing cat and mouse with the police.

I think he was hedging his bets. If he said nope I've never met Marion and never known her and then just one connection was made to him, he would have been exposed as a total liar and covering something up. So he went with the middle ground - yep I knew her but it didn't work out and she went off with someone else. More or less.

I am just wondering if there would be anything in place to prevent RB from disappearing ???

One would hope so but it hasn't been overtly stated has it? And maybe there's no grounds to?

  • #147
Do we all agree that RB played a significant and possibly direct role in Marion’s disappearance and probable death? The Australian authorities have so let Sally down that this would be rubbing salt into the wounds if no criminal case is sought after finally finding this guy.

  • #148
That's right. I recall it was an older couple who were ruled out as knowing anything about the call.
I wonder where his wife’s parents lived? There would have been no shade on Ric in 2013

The thing about the cedars at Nymboida.
I was thinking that he was just big noting himself (as usual).
But what if he did have some "trees" somewhere, at least on paper. ;)

I'm not sure if any plans were going back then, but there were schemes where the government paid you to grow trees on your property.

What if he took up an offer like that, but there was actually no property or trees.

Or would he have been too honest for something like that :D
Nymboida ….right next door to Grafton (her Medicare card was used there)..

Huh?

The TVPodcast and NSW inquest into MB which is on Youtube, would be a great place to start so you can gather some already known facts about the case.
I’ve been following from the beginning a few years ago but loads of things/details pass me by…. some things stick however : it’s fascinating how everyone’s ears are tuned into different details.. it must be the previous experience with certain similar situations that stay in your memory easier?

The things that stick out to me personally are;

1.) The personality of Marion being SO perfectly matched to the façade of RB which would have made her fall head-over-heels for whatever strange thing he suggested.

2.) The possible large scale sexual abuse at the boys school she taught & left abruptly from & the new teacher/headmaster that came…
This is very very intriguing..

3.) The ringing and talking at length with Sally before a mentioned “quiet” period..

4.) The short length of time written on the immigration card (whoever wrote it)

5.) the use of the Medicare card in Grafton

6.) obviously the money withdrawals but specifically the untouched Barclays account .. (the fact her name was changed so recently prior to travelling causing an issue with any bank overseas but not here.)

7.) the crime stoppers call and Facebook interaction… it has RBs prints all over it.. providing unnecessary information… when no one had ANY info around that time of anything anyway…

T
But there could be truth in the “dropped off by removalists” to his garage and equal truth to the visit she made to collect (something in them)..

We have a large garage on a property and ppl are always leaving their bits here.. he could have offered to help her out initially.. I don’t think this is implausible..but (I doubt he would have given his address) but if he thought she was going to the other side of the world it’s possible…

If she did pop back to retrieve something (she could have got address from the removalist company or through the ‘old man’ she may have known or some other means..?) she certainly wasn’t a dim lady..)
She would most likely have discovered everything gone (binned most likely) and a person who was a complete fraud…

She would definitely ‘have to go’ as she knew his home adresss..
Lol the guy spends his time conning women, promising them a new life of love in a foreign country there’s no way he would have any woman he has fed his lies to come to his home where his wife and children live..JMO

Unless he likes being the centre of attention and enjoys playing cat and mouse with the police.
Or… unless he thought perhaps they had something that could have tied him to knowing her.. so he spun his stories to ‘cover’ himself incase

Who's to say that Marion didn't know about the Remakel name through the world of soccer that she had once married into.

Even a rare name is not evidence that it's a slam dunk that it was anything to do with RB.
Something scared RB into admitting he had known Marion and I don't think it was because of the Remakel name.

My guess is he had kept something of hers. Maybe he took photos
Yes or perhaps sold something of hers antiques? Artworks? China? that can be linked back to him being the seller?
There is definitely something.. I don’t know if it would be a photo based on the what we have just heard of him deleting a pic from a camera from Belgium woman.. but that was after MB so perhaps he has fine tuned his game plan.
But there IS something for sure IMO

gosh...ive always thought that my friend was unlucky, but maybe I should think she was lucky...
to be fair, she had known the guy back in her student days, but he bumped into him years later, but, what she didn't know, was that he was targeting single women who were nearing the end of their childbearing years and panicking...you can guess the rest..
luckily, she fled from him while she was on maternity leave, so still had her old job to go back to. and he didn't grab all her savings...though he's hardly paid a cent in child maintenance...she did say once just before she left that she thought he'd been trying to poison her...I just put that down to her becoming so upset , but I'm beginning. to wonder ..
he went on to play. the same game with several other women...she found out that there. had been at least one before her, and I can only assume it. was. a. power kick...why the heck would. you want your life to be so complicated
unfortunately its left most of his kids needing therapy...why doesn't daddy want to talk to me. etc

grrrr.....

It was

$500 not $5k as per inquest. She did not have a card therefore had to withdraw via the bank not a machine
SL is very clear it was $5k per day, she has repeated this just a few days ago on the FB page and says the $500 came from MB's father when he was dealing with the Salvation Army.

One incredibly interesting thing is the MdHs loyalty. And her career choices.
I wonder if daddy RB might have had an apprentice who assisted in the selection of victims through her interactions with them from the store or coin fairs she helped at, and gave daddy their details as good marks? She would also have access to their personal details if she processed them at the Ballina airport where she also got her first job.
This doesn’t immediately like them to Marion but it’s another angle. I mean, who would suspect a young girl of being involved. Where’d she get all her money though?
And why have your accused father and mother live with you unless you knew what was up and were trying to protect the con?
I think the son might be the only clean one in the family.
ALL IMOO

I wonder if Marion ever tried to sell any of her antiques ?
I'm still holding on to the -- Marion ran a personal ad -- story of how they met. BUT the antiques would have been the perfect way to her heart. @TootsieFootsie, I can just hear RB telling her that he's an antiques authority and would love to give her an evaluation of what she has. An antiques dealer or collector seems like a safe kind of guy from the get-go.

It would be a really useful “in” for RB as well - great way to assess if the woman has assets of value. And if she didn’t have assets of value he could just ghost her after that.

I’m just listening to the catch ups, and ep 1 where they talk about the trouble at TSS and how Marion was upset by what other staff were saying about her, made me wonder if it wasn’t other staff at all, what if it was tip-off style info like the complaint made about Ginette G-B’s home business?? Fits the MO of isolate and move o/s
