Australia - Mass shooting at Bondi Beach Hanukkah Celebration - 14 Dec 2025

  • #21
The image I've seen of a gun seemed to be a shotgun (ABC). Shotguns are brutal at close range. You don't have to have good aim to hit people, and they do a lot of damage.

Yes, so darn sad, this is not Australia.

I fear there is going to be alot of fatalities ................some horrific videos on SM showing multiple people receiving CPR........
Unfortunately. One video I saw had 3 dead, and two people having CPR performed on them. It was a small area too.

Weapon seen lying on the ground at Bondi

By Andrew Thorpe

Footage from the scene shows what appears to be a pump-action shotgun lying on the ground next to a baseball cap, with an officer standing nearby.

We can't and shouldn't assume whether or not the weapon belonged to the shooter, and police could be seen wielding similar weapons earlier.

Crowds being told to move back

By Georgie Hewson

The public is continually being moved back further and further from the scene.

There are police officers with tears in their eyes telling people to move on.

There are a lot of public who’ve come down to have a look.

I’m now hearing a message from the police helicopter Which is circling the beach telling people who are not emergency services to move on .

Emergency services still arriving at the scene

By Andrew Thorpe

Sean Tarek Goodwin tells ABC News it's still chaotic on the ground, with sirens still blaring as more emergency services arrive.

There are also a lot of civilians beyond the exclusion zone, he says, but they appear to be mostly helping the injured.

There was a Hanukah event on at Bondi beach tonight. A listing describing the event said it was set to take place from 5pm to 9pm at the Bondi Park Playground, with free admission.

The event was called Chanukah By The Sea and hosted by the Chabad of Bondi.

Sunday was the first day of the Jewish festival Hanukkah.

“Join Chabad of Bondi for our Annual Chanukah Festival as We Celebrate Jewish Life by lighting up the Iconic Bondi Beach,” an advertisement for the event stated.

That's the thing, it is.

This kind of gun violence does happen. And saying that it doesn't happen here doesn't help.

We just have to look at the police shootings in Queensland and Victoria in the recent past. Those people might have had a different political agenda to these shooters, but they all used guns to act out their extremist missions.

We need to be examining closely our laws and procedures to do with gun availability, and licensing. If the guns are illegally sourced, we need to be working on shutting down those avenues.

Being proactive is the way to keep our gun crime low. Our laws work. But we need robust systems of checking backgrounds and tracing firearms to enable the laws to work.

Multiple fatalities, police say

By Annabel Bowles

Police say there are multiple fatalities and that there's no longer an active threat, with two shooters in custody.

ABC reporter Digby Werthmuller is at the scene and has been speaking to police media officers.

"Police believe that there is to be multiple fatalities," he said.

"They have told me that the active threat, those shooters have been neutralised by police and there's no ongoing active threat to the public down here in Bondi.

"But it's very much still an active scene down here with police and ambulance coming and going.

"So they do just want to reiterate for people to stay home and not come down to Bondi."

Bystander tackles gunman in incredible footage

I think that gun they showed on ABC news for sure belonged to the shooter. The palm tree and path the civilian placed it at when the shooter ran off looks exactly the same.

I know heroics get people killed the vast majority of the time, but I don't think there's any question that civilian saved lives. And all he did was disarm the guy. He didn't kill him, though he could have. That takes courage, too.
