A question for Australian folks. In the footage, I see police with handguns, but would regular patrol officers have any kind of rifles in their vehicles?

Bondi terrorists travelled to Philippines for 'military-style training', security sources say

The revelation comes after the ABC reported Naveed Akram, 24, had longstanding links to members of Australia's pro-Islamic State (IS) network — including to notorious jihadist spiritual leader Wisam Haddad and convicted IS youth recruiter Youssef Uweinat.

Naveed and Sajid Akram then journeyed to the southern Philippines and underwent militant training, said a senior counter-terrorism official, speaking on condition of anonymity.

The Philippines Bureau of Immigration confirmed the pair arrived in the Philippines from Australia on November 1, declaring the southern city of Davao as their destination.

"They left the country on November 28, 2025, on a connecting flight from Davao to Manila, with Sydney as their final destination," Bureau of Immigration spokesperson Dana Sandoval said.

“Boris and Sofia were longtime Bondi locals who loved their community and the life they had built there,” the family said in a statement to ABC Australia, the national broadcaster.

The family said that the couple’s selfless act reflected “exactly who they were: people who instinctively chose to help, even at great personal risk.”

“While nothing can lessen the pain of this loss, we feel immense pride in their courage and humanity,” it added.

No ignorance! We all know things in diverse areas.

A Jewish person is like anyone else…..to receive blood, the donor’s blood must be compatible with the receiver’s blood type.

The only thing I’ve ever heard is that some ultra-Orthodox Jews have refused any kind of surgery that would incorporate a part from a pig, such as a valve or something.

I think Muslims reject that as well.
And Seventh Day Adventists as well. My brother and his wife belong to that church. They won’t touch pork or anything to do with a pig because they believe that pigs are unclean.

UN expert calls for investigation into emergency response

A United Nations expert is calling for an "independent and impartial investigation" into the emergency response to the Bondi Beach shooting.

Ben Saul, the UN special rapporteur on protecting human rights while countering terrorism, says in a statement: “I applaud the courage of bystanders who assisted others, including the heroic efforts of one man who tackled a gunman and disarmed him."

"I also recognise the dedicated efforts of law enforcement, first responders and healthcare professionals," he says.

But he calls for an investigation that would look to identify whether the authorities "missed any opportunities to prevent the attack" and "whether the law enforcement response was sufficiently prompt and effective".

This is an article about these recruiters from 4 months ago:

"Preacher Wisam Haddad and Islamic State terrorist Youssef Uweinat are targeting the pro-Palestinian movement for recruits"

IMO, it is these guys who are the master manipulators behind the scenes. I hope there is a way to shut them down, or least kick them out.

Sounds as if it is the judges who are at the seat of this particular problem.

Justice Geoffrey Bellew cut his sentence from the maximum 10 years to less than four, citing his "genuine" contrition, renunciation of terrorism, immaturity and an early guilty plea.

Before Uweinat's release in 2023, another judge rejected the federal government's case that he remained an unacceptable terrorism risk, in a decision delivered in closed court.

The ABC has confirmed Uweinat reconnected with Mr Haddad soon after his release.

I also read yesterday that the police actually had to give him CPR at the scene. The unimaginable things that they have to do!

But now that he is conscious, it may be that he will soon be charged with multiple counts of murder.

imo

I thought the same thing. And the poor dedicated nursing staff who are looking after him in hospital. I applaud them.

I wonder what kind of injuries the terrorist received?

More on that notorious Sydney Muslim cleric

Sydney Muslim cleric told to prominently display online judge’s findings he was ‘racist and antisemitic’

The judge on Thursday ordered the preacher to “pin” or “feature” corrective notices describing the court’s findings to the centre’s website and social media pages on Facebook, Rumble, Instagram and Soundcloud, a way of ensuring they are highly visible on those platforms at all times.

He has been given 21 days to comply with the order. As of Thursday afternoon, the posts had not been made.

Edit: also from July 2025
