Audio analysis of the 10-minute video by Nathan Ruser, analyst at the Australian Strategic Policy Institute, estimates that at least 103 shots were fired, with about 83 coming from the two attackers. Those figures were corroborated by the Financial Review’s analysis.

It is unclear, however, how many shots were fired in the minutes before the video was recorded.

(Keeping in mind that Chris Minns says that the actual shootings took place over 6½ minutes)

I was a bit off, I counted about 120 ( difficult to count as they were shooting at the same time some times )

Bondi gunman formally charged by NSW Joint Counter Terrorism Team

Wednesday, 17 December 2025 05:03:38 PM

The NSW Joint Counter Terrorism Team has formally charged a 24-year-old man alleged to be one of two gunmen responsible for the Bondi Beach mass shooting that claimed the lives of 15 people.

About 6.40pm on Sunday 14 December 2025, emergency services were called to Bondi Beach following reports of a public place shooting.

Officers attached to Eastern Suburbs Police Area Command, surrounding commands, and specialist police responded and located two men using long arms to fire into crowds of people.

Multiple officers exchanged fire with the gunmen, and two officers – a constable and probationary constable – suffered gunshot wounds.

During the incident, one gunman – a 50-year-old man – was shot by police and died at the scene.

The second gunman – his 24-year-old son – suffered critical injuries and was taken to hospital under police guard.

Fifteen people died during the attack, with 41 people – including four children – taken to hospital.

There are currently 20 patients continuing to receive care across several Sydney hospitals.

Those who died are still in the process of being formally identified; however, police believe their ages range between 10 and 87.

Of the two injured officers, the constable is in a critical but stable condition, while the probationary constable is in a stable condition.

NSW Police Commissioner Mal Lanyon APM declared the incident terror related, and the investigation was referred to the NSW Joint Counter Terrorism Team (JCCT) under Operation Arques.

The NSW JCTT comprises members from the NSW Police Force, Australian Federal Police, Australian Security Intelligence Organisation and the NSW Crime Commission.

Following extensive inquiries under Operation Arques, today (Wednesday 17 December), JCTT investigators attended a hospital where they charged a 24-year-old Bonnyrigg man with 59 offences, including:

- Commit terrorist act

- 15 counts of murder

- 40 counts of cause wounding/grievous bodily harm to person with intent to murder

- Discharge firearm etc intend cause grievous bodily harm

- Cause public display of prohibited terrorist org symbol

- Place explosive in/near building with intent cause harm

Police will allege in court the man engaged in conduct that caused death, serious injury and endangered life to advance a religious cause and cause fear in the community.

Early indications point to a terrorist attack inspired by ISIS, a listed terrorist organisation in Australia.

He remains in hospital under police guard to face Bail Division Local Court 7 via AVL today.

Anyone with information about extremist activity or possible threats to the community should come forward, no matter how small or insignificant you may think the information may be. The National Security Hotline is 1800 123 400.

As hundreds of people gathered to lay flowers and pay their respects to the 15 people killed in Sunday's terrorist attack, a young man began singing the all too familiar lyrics.
"I am, you are, we are Australian," he sang.
As he continued, more and more voices joined in until the diverse crowd of grieving Sydneysiders was singing along with him.

"I wanted to do just something small to show that we as a city .... supports the Bondi Beach, and Australian Jewish community, and that they're welcome here, and deserve to be safe, just like everyone of all backgrounds and faith," he said.

Australian authorities on Wednesday charged the surviving suspect in the Bondi Beach shooting with 59 offenses, including terrorism and 15 counts of murder.

Naveed Akram, 24, was charged after waking from a coma in a Sydney hospital having been shot by police. He is alleged to have carried out the ISIS-inspired attack on a Hanukkah celebration alongside his father, 50-year-old Sajid Akram.

The charges came as the first funerals for the victims were held under tight security, not far from the scene of the antisemitic massacre. Investigators were meanwhile turning their attention to the suspects' alleged ISIS connection, including a trip to a southern island of the Philippines — seen in the past as a hotspot for extremism...

Bondi Beach shooting victim's faithful dog refused to leave owner's body(Image: X)
''A victim of the horrific antisemitic attack at Bondi Beach, perpetrated by a father-and-son duo, was guarded in his final moments by his loyal dog, who steadfastly refused to leave his side.''

''Ms Curry confirmed that Maui, the dog, is now safe and has been returned to the victim's wife, who survived the attack. This was made possible due to the remarkable efforts of the local community, with "lost and found" online groups contributing to the search for the dog.''

The quiet bricklayer, his father and a leave of absence: the duo accused of killing 15 people in Bondi

It was late June in 2019, and a 17-year-old Naveed Akram was standing outside Bankstown train station in Sydney’s west, earnestly extolling the virtues of prayer.

He was working with young men performing street dawah, a form of outreach in which the ultimate goal is to convert passersby to Islam.

Over the next few months, Naveed Akram turned 18, finished a vocational training course and started an apprenticeship as a bricklayer – his first and only proper job. And, according to police, he came under investigation by the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation (Asio).

Philippines trip examined

Naveed, 24, has been described as an incredibly hard worker, who seemingly never took leave. But, a couple of months ago, he told his boss he had broken his wrist while boxing and wouldn’t be able to work again until 2026.

In the meantime, he asked for his annual leave and other entitlements to be paid out.

It’s not known what that money was used for.

snip

An account he set up on the social media platform X last August contains only two posts: one a video of a “beautiful brick wall” he seemingly built, another of an idyllic beach. Only on the “About” section of his profile does it offer a clue: the account is “based” in the Philippines, with the platform flagging the location “can be impacted by recent travel”.

“No one was close to him,” says a former colleague, who did not wish to be named.

“You spend a lot of time together, obviously bricklaying – [which is a] pretty mind-numbing job, so you do a lot of talking, but he was just a weird operator.”

He was noted to be close to his father. Both his colleague and boss understood that his parents had separated, and that Naveed, the oldest of three children, had grown closer to his father, and his religion, as a result of the separation.

It does appear, however, that the family remained under the same roof, at a tidy house in Bonnyrigg.

'Torn away': Emotional scenes as mourners farewell first victims of Bondi terror attack

Rabbi Schlanger, who was also a prison chaplain, received a guard of honour from Corrective Services NSW. He would often travel hours out to regional NSW to be with inmates.
During the service mourners paid tribute to the "outstandingly devoted... exemplary and loving husband", "supportive and caring son and son-in-law" and "loyal and inspirational friend".
Relatives were seen embracing his coffin in grief as the service began.

snip

Just three hours after they said their goodbyes, there was a second funeral - this time for Sydney businessman Reuven Morrison.

He was one of the heroes from Sunday, hurling a brick at the gunmen.
"He's chasing after the terrorists, in his usual way, swearing at the terrorists, and he throws at them a brick! This is the greatest heroic act that a Jew can do ... to save another Jew," a friend said, remembering Morrison.

Then, in the late afternoon, Rabbi Yaakov Levitan, a father-of-four, was farewelled at Macquarie Park.
"We saw him physically plucked and torn away from the ones he loved so dearly and the wider community," one mourner said in tribute.

SYDNEY — Hundreds remained on Bondi Beach long after the sun had set Tuesday.

Many stood silently beneath the waning moon, police helicopters whirring overhead. Some laid bouquets of flowers, which local stores were giving out for free. All were there to pay tribute to the 15 people killed at a Hanukkah celebration on Sunday...
