People protecting other people's children.

Wayne's body was acting as a human shield for his eldest daughter, but his mind was elsewhere: with his missing daughter Gigi.
Unbeknown to him, Jessica's gaze had caught on a little girl in a rainbow skirt, confused, scared and alone - calling out for her mummy and daddy.
She couldn't protect her own child, so she'd protect this one, she decided. She smothered Gigi's body with her own, and uttered "I've got you", over and over again.

It is one of the incredible accounts of selflessness and courage that have emerged from one of Australia's darkest days.

That footage shows us how obstructive the public who swarmed the bridge were. After the gunmen were shot by police. An extra challenge for the police at a time when they needed cooperation. Get off the bridge, stop contaminating a crime scene.

From about the 4:40 mark in your linked video.

I do understand their raw emotions at such a time, but it was quite a tussle to get them off the bridge.

I don't think I've ever seen people do that before. Just madness.

It's incredibly stupid.

No one knew the full situation at the time.

There could have been other gunman , hiding somewhere waiting for cops to storm the bridge & for then be taken out too etc

Luckily it didn't result in any more deaths.

Some of the stuff I've read on SM just makes me shake my head, it's wild out there on the internet streets

I'm thankful for this safe place to discuss cases in a rational manner! :)

What a great story. Gave me goose bumps. Australia's are great, aren't we?

And Jessica is pregnant on top of it.

And the first guy in the black shirt ( a refugee who is / was facing deportation ) who got on the bridge, after running out of a taxi & could have been shot , now has his lawyer in the media sprouting what a good deed he was doing

“But I just want to stress this was about assisting other people. And he went about it in a methodical way of working his way towards a shooter.

“And could have, sensibly and understandably, at any time walked away. But he didn’t.”

Footage from the scene on Sunday evening showed the man was mistaken for one of the gunmen and shot at by police, before being set upon by members of the public and held at gunpoint.

Ms Battisson told news.com.au her client had been passing the beach in a taxi before asking the driver to stop so could run into the fray.

“He’s very family orientated,” she said.

“And in fact, that was one of the things that he told me as to why he acted was he thought ‘if my kids were here, I’d want somebody in my position to try and assist’.”

snip

“This is an example of a person who has done a heroic act, who has both a checkered past and a heroic past as well,” Ms Battisson said.

Sigh
