Hi, I’m new to the forum, but have been lurking for a while.

I find myself wondering if the shoe has antimicrobial properties, which has inhibited biological growth. Thus, providing a suggestion as to why there was no algae or organic growth.

I guess, my thoughts have been formed, as a result of knowing that some manufacturers of exercise gear these days, do claim to have these antimicrobial properties to discourage odour (not suggesting that the shoe and remains didn’t stink) fungus, bacteria etc.

Just trying to think outside the box.

Furthermore, when searching online for an example of the shoe (similar to that found on the beach). I came across a pair that was remarkably similar. I would regard the price point as being at the high-end of the ASICS brand running shoes.
ASICS Women's GEL-Nimbus 22 Platinum

IMOO the model of shoes could be a match.

My aim was to try and track down the model, and check out the Ascis website to see the properties of the shoe.

In terms of what has already been reported in the news...

The 7News article claimed that Melissa was seen during the raid wearing a ‘...distinctive ASICS brand sneaker that can only be purchased in Israel...’. Albeit, that the 9Now news article, was somewhat contradictory to the 7News article when stating that ‘the shoe - which was ordered online from Israel...’.

Maybe MC did procure that particular model online from Israel. However, IMOO they could have been easily sourced from an Australian market place (like Catch and a variety of others) and then shipped direct from an overseas supplier to the Australian address.
(I’m an Avid online shopper, and this happens often and I have procured items this way that have been released in a overseas market, but not in Australia).

Moreover, I think that some manufacturers/suppliers sometimes get rid of old, discontinued, or superseded stock through these online Marketplaces too. I noted the ‘Nimbus 22‘ models (different colour but same model described in my hypothesis, as stated above) are now discontinued on the Ascis website and have been upgraded with ‘Nimbus 23’. I surmise that not all colour options are available in every country.

My theory:

Do I really think that the shoe hasn’t grown the expected amount of algae, due to the antimicrobial properties? No, I’m just trying to consider other options and think outside the box. It actually makes me feel sick, when I consider what I actually think happened to her.

So maybe it’s kinder to think that she took her own life and the only remains of her left, were washed to shore in a shoe, and now the family has a remanent of closure. But unfortunately this is not what I think - but explains my though process and why I felt the need to disprove an alternative theory.

My hunch is that; 1) MC purposely evaded cameras (by sneaking out of the home unbeknown to AK or son), 2) left her mobile phone at home on purpose (to evade tower pings), 3) left her home of her own free will (either to hideout, or meet up with someone), and then 4) Months later met with foul play.

Strictly my own opinion, but unfortunately, my gut feeling is that she has met with foul play, the foot/shoe was a plant (to be found), and her now deceased body been disposed of somewhere far away, never to be found again. Just enough evidence to trigger (the possibility of) a ruling by a Coroner declaring that she may (or is likely) be dead.

I wonder if an unsavoury character (maybe an associate of hers that she trusted) has taken ‘an opportunity’, to take advantage of the situation (splashed around in the media) by deceiving her (to get her away from the house), then attempting to extort the missing millions - to no avail. IMOO they have (wrongly) assumed that MC could access the funds. Then have proceeded to disposed of her, when she didn’t (or couldn’t) come up with the goods. IMOO the longer she was kept alive the greater the liability she would have become.

Assumed Personality type:

IMOO I believe the other sleuths are on the money, when they circumspectly assumed that with ‘her’ personality type, she is unlikely to take her own life.

IMOO I don’t think that with ‘her’ assumed personality type, that she would ever give up ‘the goods’ to an extortionist. I would think that she would place a high value on ‘her’ money, that she worked very hard for (even though she acquired it by committing fraudulent activities and by deception). I can only imagine how much effort that it takes to continually maintaining the ruse. Especially with so many fraudulent elements in play. In my very strong opinion, there’d be no way in hell she’d give up the money freely. In her opinion, I bet she considered the money to be hers.

Overall, I feel very sorry for her loved ones. It’s a terrible situation that they are in. I’m sure they still love her, and I imagine would feel very conflicted - especially due to the high degree of deception and lies. Very sad.

It blows my mind that there are so many controls in place to ensure a high degree of compliance and to mitigate fraudulent activities. But if people are intent on cheating the system they will.

Excellent post. Your theory is similar to mine in that MC met with foul play later, the shoe was planted on the beach and MC did not suicide.

Usually narcissists threaten suicide to get attention but do not usually commit suicide.

When I’m feeling generous, I find myself wondering if the lies and deception started out small, and she had to continue, in order to save face.

But truly, IMOO I think that that train of thought is way off. I just don’t think it fits her assumed personality trait. She is too grandiose and over the top. The extent of her web of lies, is unbelievable. Plus the extent that she went to, to deceive those closest to her is very OTT.

My gosh, who In their right mind (not too many people) would create fictitious superannuation statements, or go to the trouble and effort of making/amending their Will, and bequeath property that they don’t actually own to others. I’m sure, That type of behaviour could be regarded as delusional.

However, IMOO her actions were likely to have been premeditated and done with intent to defraud or deceive. I bet she felt very cleaver and empowered. Such a high degree of control, and only disclosing to others ‘what she wanted them to know’, e.g. what/when on her terms and having been beneficial to her - appears to be her ammo. I think that her level of control was so high, that she only gave snippets away, when intended, and with the intent to exercise control or maintain the upper hand.

I’m sure it takes a certain personality type to maintain such a high degree of deception and discipline, for such a long period of time.

This is probably why, I think that she may have over estimated herself, when it comes to her ability to mislead, influence, control or get her own way. Especially, if she had come in contact with unscrupulous people.

I would never be able to keep a secret or maintain a ruse for that long...ever! Plus, I’m too honest.

I want to know what the sole of the ASICS shoe i.e. the 'tread' looks like. Does it show signs of wear from use? Not wear & tear from an ocean voyage but was that shoe actually worn before or enough to have signs of use one would expect the shoe to have based on when it was purchased etc?

What I'm trying to postulate as you can all probably guess, is, is it her original shoe?

If there are reasons why it would have to be MCs original shoe that I have not considered, please let me know. I never even looked at the beach shoe photo properly until last night and Hello Johnny writes about how the shoe may be more easily sourced than the media reported.

Could MC have been shot in the ankle after attempting to flee/escape her possible captors/killer(s)?

Perhaps if she was still required to be alive, an ankle shot would prevent her from attempting an escape again (I'm getting a heavy feeling in my stomach as I write this)

Maybe she was cuffed by one ankle to something and when it came time to move or remove her the captors couldn't find the key and there was only one way to get her foot free..

Was Melissa Caddick inspired by notorious US financier Bernie Madoff?

No one quite knows what drove missing Sydney conwoman Melissa Caddick to deceive her loved ones and at least 68 clients, but there's little doubt whose crimes may have inspired her.

Madoff's plot was very similar to Caddick's alleged conspiracy, albeit on a much larger scale. The Australian fraudster would likely be familiar with his tale given Madoff's conviction in July 2009 was a landmark event in financial history.

I have wondered if the timing of the start of all this for MC (it has been said, about 2013) coincided with her having to decide on schools for her son, providing him with a good education, expensive school fees, moving to this suburb close to the school, etc, etc, was a factor.

... and also been wondering if all of her accounts were frozen how was she expected to buy anything, even groceries.

I mean, she was due in court in a couple of days, presumably something could have been sorted out in the way of an allowance, but she probably didn't know that. It would have been scary and humiliating--to need to beg from family who surely would have asked lots of questions.

I once had a situation where my only income was flowing into a closed bank account. They wouldn't stop paying it there and the bank wouldn't release the money. This went on for months until I was down to my last $3 and I asked a family member for money, like $10 at that point would have been heaven, so that I could eat and travel to some work I'd lined up for the day after next. The family member refused angrily, at length. The next day she rang up and said she had to say all that because her husband was listening. Crap. I nearly suicided that night.

Aw :( I hope it wasn't too bad and you're in a better place in life now, you need food, rest and travel to get anywhere in life, it really is disheartening when you are lacking one of the three or earth forbid all of them.

I absolutely am. I was thinking of that occasion a few threads ago when there was an argument about whether money is everything or basically nothing to anyone with a proper sense of value. When you have enough money it becomes invisible. When you don't it's food and shelter and transport and health and the ability to create and maintain a family, and its absence is fear and intense anxiety and humiliation and damage to social relationships.

I've become something of a miser due to my parents' money troubles when I was a child. Miser-money is something else, it's entertainment and control, it's the ability to say f-you I'll buy Chanel or I'll buy extravagant Christmas presents when someone tries to control your purchases towards things appropriate to your income status. Childish. Better to say f-you and walk away from those people. I wonder if it was something like that with Melissa, parents who couldn't or wouldn't do money with consequent mild deprivation in childhood and their anxieties overshared with her. Spreadsheets are my land of milk and honey.

just read the article

its basically what a lot of us theorized already that the shoe didn't match what a normal shoe in the water for that long would look like

its very possible for a period of time she was alive and hiding and maybe the pressure got too much for her, this is maybe why AK was so calm and collected when he first spoke to police and was interviewed several times just after she went missing

I’m interested to know why it’s assumed that the shoe had been in the ocean at all? Could MC have been killed and her body dumped in the Bournda National Park? Any number of possibilities then as to how her foot could have ended up on the beach. IMO

And potentially becoming a "yummy mummy".

Many posh outfits required and frequent trips to maintain the required look.

Oh and the jewelley.

Interesting opinion piece by Professor Clinton Free, USyd, in the AFR today discussing white collar criminals and their ability to 'sleep at night' - a question at the core of this case considering the victims are close friends or related to MC.

"Scholars have advanced a range of theories to explain the psychological dynamics that permit otherwise law-abiding individuals to knowingly participate in illegal activity. Such theories include moral disengagement, cognitive dissonance and neutralisation theory."

The Sure Thing: How white collar criminals sleep easy at night

It could have been one way or the other for MC - spoiled rotten or deprived - it has to be extreme. I was born during World War 11 so my parents were very frugal but I did not feel deprived. They were good role models for me about how to value money. I would never buy a Dior dress even if I could afford one. What a waste of money! I am into value for money! What's the value of a dress you might only wear once?

Good point. There is no evidence that the shoe has ever been in the sea.
