As someone said a while back, what could have happened to turn Melissa from a lovely schoolgirl (by all accounts) into such an uncaring fraudster? Some situation, or incident, or even brain damage from an accident? (yes, unlikely, I know) As a monk said long ago, "Give me a child until he is 7, and I will give you the man." Meaning that a person's character and personality are formed from a young age. And if Melissa's schoolfriends knew of any divergence from her public persona back then, I should think they would have said so by now. To me her career in fraud says "I'll show you/him/her/them!" But who? And why?

From this article, Melissa Caddick’s friends shocked by change in millionaire after high school, we learnt that there was nothing in MC's early life which stood out to these school friends that would suggest that she would become a fraudster one day.

Melissa was born in 1971. Her brother, AG, looks as if he could be in his 60s, MC was 49 so there could be a big age gap of over 10 years. Her parents, are in their 80s so her mother could have been in her late 30s when she gave birth to MC. If her parents had always wanted a girl, they would have been delighted when Melissa arrived. With such an age gap between the two, both children would have had a lot of attention from their parents. Her parents being older then, could have been in a better financial position so they could have spoiled MC and bought her everything she wanted. Also, I think finding a live-in hairdresser would have been opportune for MC if she did not like her very curly mop of hair. However, I viewed these two recent articles on MC's childhood as a sort of PR exercise which the parents could have even requested as they wanted to allay blame from their parenting as everybody has been wondering what MC was like as a child. Of course, they are not going to say anything negative.

In 1988, at the age of 18yo, it appears the MC did the HSC but she did not go to university. She was in one of the top classes so we can assume she was intelligent. So, in 1989, MC started work at the age of nearly 19yo. The media has told us she started her career with NRMA as a Money Market Dealer. Perhaps, MC left home around this time as many young people do to live closer to the city. Lugarno is not near a railway station so transport is difficult. That is why MC probably lost contact with her old school friends. But we have not heard from any of her old flatmates.

I don't want to be morbid. But you'd think a shoe with a foot inside, floating around for three months would be checked out by ocean creatures and anything edible eaten.

Or was the foot that was recovered, only bones and no flesh ?

I'm also surprised that no sea creatures made a home on it, or inside of it in all that time.

I guess the forensic people will be checking all that out.

thats the question, sea lice, barnacles all sorts of coral and seaweed make homes on these items but that shoe looked very clean for 3-4 months in the water

thats the question, sea lice, barnacles all sorts of coral and seaweed make homes on these items but that shoe looked very clean for 3-4 months in the water

How can these bones remain inside a shoe that floats and tumbles around in waves.

1) The laces are undone.
2) The tongue is pulled forward.

Did the people who found the shoe undo the laces and pull the tongue away. Surely the smell and flies must have been intense.
Could you undo laces with a stick? I say nope.

Hi there, I too have been wondering how much of the foot was in the shoe. Was it a few toes and some calloused skin or was there more? Also, how was the shoe found on the sand, facing up like in the photo or on its side? The press photo makes it look like it was perfectly placed facing up but may have been for photographic purposes. Not much else has been said about it.

It's hard to read the figure (picture) but down the left side are age groups and along the top are 1st, 2nd etc meaning most common cause of death, 2nd most common etc.

Among women of Melissa's age, suicide is the third most common cause of death.

I note from other sources that in 2018, there were eight times as many suicides as homicides.

I suggest that when the shoe washed ashore there was enough flesh on the foot, protected somewhat from decomposition by the shoe and the cool water, to hold the remains in place.

Food for thought

IMO Somebody who was "in the know" between after the raid and before the media announced it, was asked by MC to drive her to her hideaway. She would not have gone on public transport. AK's Audi nor her car would have been used. As we have found out recently that she went to the Mollymook area on school camps, it is very likely an isolated Airbnb was booked in a different name for 3 months in advance like this one at Bournda Beach.

Also a rental car could have been hired during or after the raid. Food, shakes and other essentials taken so she did not have to shop, maybe if she went in a hurry, she simply wore the clothes she had on on the day of the raid - hence her ASICS were probably the only shoes she took - no Dior high heels needed. Keys are often just left in a secret place - so no need to meet the owner or real estate agent. Then this person/s went back to see her a few weeks before the shoe was found to ask her where all her money had gone, or angry with her that he/they would be implicated in her fraud, she then went into a narcissistic rage and violence occurred.

In this scenario, I am working on the theory that MC died about two weeks before the shoe was found as there were no barnacles on the shoe and decomposition was in process. This also suggests to me that the rest of her body could have been buried then. But the perpetrator decided that it would be a good idea to dislodge one of her feet from her decomposing body and plant it on this isolated beach. This could have been done to make it look as if the foot/shoe was washed into shore so police would assume she committed suicide.

Of course, there are three other possible scenarios:
1. Body was frozen in a very large freezer until the perpetrator decided to dump the body or had to be dismembered - hence the foot was cut off.
2. MC went swimming and drowned in large waves but how did the foot/shoe dislodge?
3. MC suicided by jumping off a cliff.

But, if she was suicidal, was MC able to get rid of the things she took with her before the owner or cleaner came to get the house ready for the next tenants? Otherwise, the perpetrator/s would have cleaned up afterwards and hidden the keys again perhaps leaving no trace - except for the cadaver dogs.

If I were the police I would be making enquiries in the Bournda Beach area.

Getting harder to imagine the jumping off the Eastern Suburbs coastal cliffs theory, esp on a Thursday and no one seeing anything on the popular coastal walk ... hundreds and on the weekends, thousands of people must do the coastal walk.

I just took a closer look at the photo of the ASICS runner on the beach and there is clearly a shoeprint that is the same size as the shoe, 2-3cm to the right of it.
So yes, someone has changed the position of the shoe, most likely for the "money shot".
Also note the cracks in the sand, perhaps weight distribution and dehydrated sand?
I don't know if I'm seeing red particulates on the shoe and the sand/shore or if the shoe had red colours in its original design?

I read a comment to a video about MC on YouTube in which it was theorised AK used makeup and hair dressing skills to turn MC into a man, thus aiding in the escape.
Initially bemused, I thought on it and it actually is plausible, but we don't know how MC left her Dover Heights home, or how much of her at what time etc
I myself have had images of MC with a shaved head then a stocking over her head before I read the theory on YouTube. It would trick CCTV.

It's possible the young men who found the shoe thought there could be money/wallet/keys/phone inside it after possibly coming across an upturned shoe and have shaken the shoe to check what, if anything, was
inside, causing the remains to force the shoe open as they fell out.

Not a pleasant image, especially imagining how the foot was put back inside the shoe...so they'd omit those details in the news reports.

Also, maybe a big crab was sheltering in the shoe (in the young lads heads) which is another valid reason for shaking the shoe out.

Maybe my view is skewed abit working in Emergency Medicine where we see attempted suicides alot , heaps of suicidal ideation & successful suicides less often ( but we hear from ambos & cops the ones who don't make it to us ) . There are way too many......

Our mental health presentations have sky rocketed the past few years ( alot drug & ETOH related thou ) and they are getting younger & younger. Not uncommon for kids 10, 11, 12. 13 wanting to kill themselves ( thankfully they usually don't succeed because they don't know how or have access to the means to do it )

Mental Health is a pretty big passion of mine, it is the most under funded, under resourced field out there IMO...........

Interestingly the only 2 pts that self harmed in my care were both females ( hangings ) both shower hoses........I still see their faces to this day.........

I admire people with devotion to causes such as Mental health, I agree it is out of control to put it briefly and I speak from experience too though not like yours.
I am sorry for the very sad things you have witnessed and for the trauma you may have gone through on some level.
