Kate McClymont's podcast is now available (on Spotify, Google Podcasts, Apple Podcasts):

In the last years of her giant fraud, Melissa Caddick was borrowing from a lender of last resort and punting stolen money on cryptocurrency, the new podcast Liar Liar reveals.

. . .

And for the first time, listeners will hear the voice of Caddick herself as she tries to cajole a potential victim into investing in her massive Ponzi scheme.

. . .

Melissa Caddick podcast Liar Liar: Bitcoin, Anthony Koletti and a final throw of the dice

From the Podcast's blurb:

Liar Liar will reveal fresh details of the crime of the century through interviews with key players
Lender of last resort? Are they referring to her parents deposit towards the Edgecliffe property?

Lender of last resort? Are they referring to her parents deposit towards the Edgecliffe property?

In such circumstances, 'lender of last resort' usually implies a loan shark who charges very high interest for short term loans to desperate people, and is personally sometimes known as 'a colourful character'.

This podcast is a series and seems they are going to drag it out. The first 20 or so minutes of Ep 1 was replete with self congratulatory drivel and (IMO) quite silly sing-songy descriptions of Dover Heights. I increased the speed to 1.5 to get through it.

Hopefully subsequent episodes will be more down to business throughout.

This is the first time that I have heard from the media that MC was investing in cryptocurrency even though we have discussed it here.

Yes, the first episode didn’t engage me too much. It was like listening to 2 gossips when they were discussing an architects opinion on the Dover Heights house. I almost turned it off.

If Melissa did get money from a loan shark then maybe one of my more far fetched theories wasn’t far fetched at all.

I've forgotten what your theory was?

I've forgotten what your theory was?
I mainly alluded to the fact that there is an underworld presence in Dover Heights & the surrounding suburbs (not the person that walked by her house)and that MC may have either had a silent partner or that she had a shady investor that wasn’t too pleased about the ASIC raid.

Yes that for me that ties in with my theory that MC may have been murdered but only if this person had knowledge of the ASIC raid that same night/morning as only MC or AK could have told anyone then as it was only announced in the media a few days later. Perhaps she trusted this person that night/morning to hide her and he came back later to deal with MC.

Will the inquest be open to the public? Would love to be there, but there may be a crowd wanting to get in:)

I’d be surprised if it was?

Melissa Caddick's suspected death to be investigated by NSW Coroner in September - ABC News

Ms Caddick, 49, has not been seen since she left her Dover Heights home without her mobile phone, wallet or keys just before sunrise on November 12, 2020.

Police considered her dead when her foot was found on a beach around 400 kilometres from where she was last seen more than three months later.

The day before she disappeared, the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) officials raided Ms Caddick's home.....

( Coroners inquests are usually in the public domain. Anthony may go feral and request a private inquest but that costs a lot of unreturnable money . The only problem , as far as I can tell, in attending the procedure would be something of a COvid factor, lots can happen between here and September) ,.

Can someone remind me how many hours went by before she was reported missing ? How many hours before LE started the search for her ?
It took AK 30 hours before he reported her missing.

With 25 trips overseas from 2009 - 2020, me reckons she might have been up to something other than just doing some apres skiing. I think this little lady was getting in way over her head and was looking at alternative ways of making a fast buck. Could be crypto, gems, gold, gambling, she could only fake those high share yields for so long, and needed cash especially when investors wanted out. 13 visits to the US, 3 to the Uk, Korea, Japan, Hong Kong and Singapore, we know she brought a 500, 000 K ring in Honkers what about the rest. I smell an offshore account or two.

Thanks. I can't plan that far ahead either. But I have never attended a trial or inquest (funnily enough, had been to a trial or two as potential juror) so really should go to get some 'credibility' as a sleuther.. Or just plain curious about those cases I know about.

SMH has an update on the latest court actions of the parents and AK

Melissa Caddick inquest date announced as parents admit they were fleeced

In a statement filed in the Federal Court, Barb and Ted Grimley, who are in their 80s, state that “Melissa dishonestly and fraudulently” took $1.187 million that they gave her to acquire a 37.37 per cent ownership in an Edgecliff penthouse acquired by their daughter for $2.55 million in late 2016.

[...]

However, the Grimleys are claiming they should get priority over other investors.

[...]

Koletti is staking a claim over his wife’s assets, including part of any proceeds from the sale of her Dover Heights home, according to an affidavit filed by the solicitor for the receivers, Michael Hayter, from Swaab lawyers.

:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Also from that SMH article:

Mr Hayter has sought an order from the court asking that Koletti “be restrained” from this course of action. Earlier court documents show that Koletti, a hairdresser, is yet to show the receivers any financial contributions he made to acquire the Dover Heights home which was purchased by his wife for $6.2 million in 2014.

Elsewhere it is said that he claims to have contributed financially from his income. I guess he'll be able to supply tax returns to prove that ... or not.

When the shoe was found, there had been talk of her Will in the media which I thought was a bit of a coincidence at the time.

I wonder how he'd stand if he'd divorced her and taken whatever he could get in property settlement before the fraud was discovered. Even a non-working partner is normally awarded 50%. It would probably be too late unless they could prove he knew the money was stolen? After all I assume they can't demand that the cook, for example, pays back her wages because it was all really investors' money. Is that where AK is coming from . . . he's earned the money as a husband already, and he didn't fleece anyone, so why is his half-share forfeit?
