Australia - Sydney, Lilie James, water polo coach, murdered at elite school, assassin sports assistant Paul Thijssen suicided, 25 Oct 2023

According to 7 news, Lilie's killer , after murdering Lilie, used her phone to send a text message to Lilie's father, to come and 'get her'... pretending he was Lilie, luring the father to the killing ground.... ( daylight saving is operating in NSW now and it was still light, late afternoon, the last rays of the sun ) and the father, all unknowing actually took off to go to the school to fetch Lilie home.

To kill the father as well?? to show the father just who owned Lilie? to display his handiwork ?

the horror, the horror.

No print article that I can find, yet, but here's a direct link to the broadcast report of this information. No captions, unfortunately, so you'll have to watch with the sound on.

7NEWS now reports Thijssen’s family will not repatriate their only child’s body home to the Netherlands.

It is understood they will instead scatter his ashes in Sydney before returning home.

Fair enough. Repatriating isn't for everybody. May they reach some level of peace in the future.

Criminologist gives her opinion of why Paul texted Lilie's father from her phone. School beginning to resume normal things; sports beginning again with the exception of water polo for now. Players to wear black armbands and observe a minute's silence. Memorial flowers from the front of the school will be moved on Friday to Remembrance Garden at Kirikee.

Tl;dr, intelligent man who should know better fails to read the room in an epic way.

Not altogether unexpected, considering the source. It is, obviously, written by the headmaster to the stakeholders ( fee paying parents) to assuage and comfort and to hell with any insignificant victim, merely a polo coach, and , probably, did exactly that, comfort the fee paying parents who wake up one morning and find their precious boy has been coached by a killer. Oh well. Naturally, it all has to be sidelined onto some sudden onset of undiagnosed mental illness, the young chap could not be just plain bad. Because that could require some introspection about the culture.

What does it matter that he was a 'good student'? Or a prefect?? or , and God help us all, this head master actually wrote that this vile creep was 'a delight'. He was a terrifying brutal murderer. !!! That's all he was, all he ever will be.

And I am pretty cross that the Thijssen’ en famille didn't cart their sons' ashes back to wherever he came from, I don't want that stuff blowing all over me in Rose Bay, they can afford to send a small canister back to Europe, why they heck would they think it appropriate to have them swirling around SYdney? . .. as if he has not caused enough pollution already? Just ill mannered to the max. Repatriation in this circumstance is definitely called for.

John Collier is no longer headmaster of St Andrew's, hasn't been for a year I think. He is headmaster of Shore School, a boys' school, currently. St Andrew's head is currently a woman. John Collier was head of St Andrew's when Paul was a student. He has no horse in the race with current shareholders. He was, however, possibly responsible for hiring Paul as a sports assistant, so maybe there is an element of self-protection going on regarding that.

Shore, St Andrews Cranbrook, Xavier, St Kevins, Scots, it's all the same, ......

And I doubt this dribble about him being a top student, a 'delight', a 'charming young man'.. he had one of the most expensive educations you can buy, he went back to the Netherlands after matriculation, or perhaps he did a baccalaureate, he did a 'business degree' of some nature in Utrecht somewhere, , he came back to Australia and the only job he gets is as an ASSISTANT sports coach at a private school he was once a prefect at. Strings pulled to employ him, for sure. Doesn't sound like a smart , top student to me, sounds like a lazy , nasty bloke waiting for a handout.

A couple of years ago, when John Collier was head at St Andrews, he poo poo'd the fact that a teacher had been upskirting the school girls, and that teacher, son of a prominent judge, was allowed to serve his sentence IN THE COMMUNITY, Collier being a 'character reference'. just being one of the boys, ..the filming was a 'one off, you know how it is, and we should all show compassion out of, you guessed it, compassion to HIS family!!... wtf??.....

A lax outfit, in every way , the blokes could get away with anything. No accountability, no worries.. one of the killer's year colleagues went on to be charged with multiple serious sexual assault charges..the promotion of the concept that these schools produce gentlemen is so far from reality as to be laughable. And they usually get away with it.

No doubt, Collier is stuck on Thijssen's murderous escapade masquerading as a 'one off' incident, had he not offed himself, Collier probably would have been a character reference for him in his homicide trial.

It was a ridiculous letter to write, and even more ridiculous to send it to anyone, he should have killed his darlings, yet like pompous people all over, he could not get over his own cleverness in putting words together...and Collier should have known that it's way past time when killers of women are elevated to 'being a delight'.

Lilie James, who was found dead at St Andrew’s Cathedral School in Sydney

The impact of James’s death has reopened a conversation about male violence against women, including domestic, family, sexual and intimate partner violence – something that has been described in the past as a national crisis.

Last December saw a decade-high number of women allegedly killed by men in Australia. At least 10 women were killed in the month – more than three times the average rate of one woman a week.

“Violence against women is a national emergency and must remain an urgent priority,” Patty Kinnersly, CEO of Australia’s national prevention of violence organisation Our Watch, said

I suspect they mean the room is going to be completely gutted and refitted. I imagine the teachers' toilet area isn't freestanding, but is a physical part of the larger gym building, meaning they wouldn't be able to demolish it as they would an actual toilet block, like the sort you see at a sports field or public park. And they couldn't just remove it without replacing it, or they'd deprive the teachers of facilities.

IMO Collier needs to be fired.

IMO Collier needs to be fired.
And soon. For all the letters after his name, for all the significant positions he has held, headmaster of this, of that, of all boys schools and all gender schools, advisor to parents etc , member of this and that committee, Collier missed the foundation , the rock upon which analysis of human behavior stands on...

' Character is what you do, not what you say'....

Collier was being charmed by a killer, all along, and failed , as people do, because we cannot pick up the signs and signals in time , it's not that Thijjssen was provoked, by some outrageous behavior of a woman, out of his ordinary perspectives, it was what he was all along.

It seems St Andrews had a few 'incidences', in regard to gender attitudes...... an ongoing process, one could say. Until, one day, your young female water polo coach is battered unmercifully to death in the ladies rest room, by the young male assistant coach. ....
Thank you, that article was an excellent read.

New South Wales Police Force are investigating the likelihood Thijssen’s attack was not random, however. It was not the “brain snap” that many, often men, look for when explaining away extreme violence.

Thijssen reportedly bought a hammer – not the one he ended up using in the attack – at a hardware store the day he killed James. He also rented a car and drove it to work at the school, knowing he would later need transport to get to Vaucluse, where he would throw himself from a cliff.

Two hours before the murder, Thijssen was seen in CCTV footage at the Vaucluse clifftop, examining the same area to which he would return after his crime was done.

Collier, who was trying, if clumsily, to make the point that all people have a capacity for evil on some level, went on to collapse both Lilie James and the man who murdered her into the same breath.

“Now, two young lives are destroyed in their prime,” Collier wrote, “two families have had their lives upturned in the most blistering manner in a way which will never really recede, and multiple friends, relatives and staff in two schools have been left in deep turmoil.”

The comments prompted a wave of public condemnation, not least because they represented a broader cultural problem in prideful, elite institutions, a problem of minimising the behaviour of young men or subtly shielding them from the ordinary consequences of the real world, the one that exists outside the halls of a private school that charges tens of thousands of dollars in fees each year.

Even in the outrage of his acts, Thijssen got this treatment.

“We’re seeing the erasure of that division between offender and victim,” journalist and anti-sexual violence campaigner Nina Funnell tells The Saturday Paper.'''''''''''''''

I missed this the first time around. His suicide was planned ahead of the murder. No impulsivity to any aspect of this at all.
