Do we know for sure if this homeless person was squatting there when Theo went missing on 31/5-1/6?

"While the campsite is now empty, Byron Bay woman Renee Scott said the man was living in a tent under a tarp when volunteers went looking for Theo on July 5."

Theo Hayez Byron Bay search: Mystery homeless man who camped in bushland could be linked | Daily Mail Online

I haven't read he already lived there on the 31/5-1/6. He was noticed there by the volunteers on the 5/7. Did Tommy say anything ?
We are also not sure that the driver's licence is his. Just that Renée Scott's husband thought the man resembled the picture on the driver's licence found a few days ahead.

Also the license was found in late June - after the police had been searching in that area quite intensively between 13/6-18/6. Seems that it may have been dropped/left there well after Theo disappeared.

It is just super weird that he loses his license there. Very likely to be his license seeing the resemblance along with family confirming he is homeless and have not heard from him for 5 years and license being found at the same time as he was camped there. Clearly he wants to keep to himself as it is mentioned the man hid when search team tried to approach him. It may be his nature but it may very well be he knows something even if he is not directly involved. So possibly if someone was with Theo he knew the person/people he was with. If Theo was with his phone then clearly he made it past the camp safely. IMO it is more likely this homeless man knows the people he was with rather than him doing something to Theo.

The ID was found in the bush in an unusual spot,” Jacalyn said. “When Dave said he looked like the guy on the ID, it just sort of sent a little alarm bell off.”NoCookies | The Australian So this license was found in an unusual spot. Did he hide his license intentionally? Would like to know exactly where this license was found. Or did maybe someone raid his camp looking for cash and chuck license in the bushes? Seems odd license was on it's own, most people keep it in a wallet or similar.

Another thing I’ve been thinking about from the latest episode of the podcast. It’s stated that when Theo’s phone gets to the T junction of the fire trail it waits there for 2 mins. Then proceeded right towards the beach.

What caused the 2 min pause?

Was it catching breath from going fast? Was it trying to find your way? Remember it didn’t seem the phone stopped where Theo’s hat was found so if that’s where Theo lost the hat, why not stop to look for it?

Also remember it’s pitch black in the scrub, if your getting chased, why even follow a path that can be seen? Why not just go off the path, even like at CC if he went in that scrub stuff to hide, why not do it on the fire trail path and when he went right into the scrub? It’s pitch black, I reckon during the day if I had a head start even by 2 mins I could hide pretty well from somebody off the track, let alone doing it at night. Literally anywhere on track go in 10 meters and lie behind a tree and wait, no one would find you!

Just wanted to ad.. speaking of the phone going into the scrub up at CC. I don’t think 5 and a half minutes is long enough to wait if you hiding and think you are in danger. It’s stated on podcast at night anyone in that scrub would not be seen if hiding, Sheri thinks he’s hiding...but for someone in a lucid state who is hiding from danger, wouldn’t you think you would wait a tad longer than 5 mins? Even if you see the danger going the other way, wouldn’t you wait more than 5 mins? I would.
Wow, they actually know misterX's identity!
He is missing too !

If this person is someone that made a bad call, they could be in the wind coming to terms with what they've done. I believe guilt would effect a mentally well person to the point of confession.... Maybe not, but probably.

If this person has just begun to emerge as something darker, a hunter, then I would suggest looking to the missing person case in WA near Northam. Another coastal town where two backpackers have gone missing. I am unsure as to the updated news on the couple, but their car was found with no trace of them. Bundy and BTK confused authorities for years by crossing jurisdictional lines.

Well, it's his drivers licence, not his ID. So not much hurry to replace it.

You probably mean end June, not end July?

One thing is for sure: Theo's phone was on land on June 1st.

I didn't realize the article mentioned the bank card as well,

"“We found a little wallet. It was almost like an old camera case and we opened it up and pulled out the driver’s licence and a bank card, and both were quite damaged."

So in my head on the bankcard also being located.

He obviously needed money and im wondering if LE contacted the bank to see if the person had reported it lost or stolen.

"The camp was beside where Theo Hayez emerged from dense bushland on the night he disappeared. It was later abandoned and has been described as a critical lead for police to investigate."

So police listed it as critical lead so would that be enough for them to obtain a warrant or whatever needed to contact the bank based on the description the twins gave of the person to the ID found and seen at the campsite?

If the bank was contacted shortly after the card was lost by the person they may have had info that the person reported it lost and a date it was reported which would help investigations to see if he may have been there at the time or even within days of Theo.

Also, the wallet/license/bank card ...

“But they were on top of the leaf litter so we don’t know how long they’d been there. And the licence was dropped back to the police station and, you know, we didn’t hear any more about it.”

And more about the camp and person.

“It looks like a permanent set-up that he comes and goes from,” Jacalyn said. The man in the licence has not replied to messages. His sister and stepfather said he was homeless.

“I haven’t seen my brother in maybe five years,” his sister said.
“He lost the plot … Something doesn’t go his way he’ll just start screaming.
“He thinks everyone’s after him. He thinks the police are after him.

“I don’t see it, but when my seven-year-old was, like, six weeks old, he told me the police were tracking us and everything.”

It is from Episode 5, the one yet to be released. It was part of a brief intro to this Episode which you can see on David Murrays twitter and also was in one newspaper I read (looked like copied from Murray's twitter).

This type of behaviour I've seen before with someone on drugs. I think it could be drugs or mental illness or drugs with underlying mental illness.
The person I know like that can be ok when off the drugs.
I think it's getting a bit speculative with this person. I'd regard him as someone who might know 'something' and that's all.
I think pushing him and getting the speculation out there too much will drive him away more. Encouragement to come forward and also possibly deal with his issues would be the best approach.
I'm wondering if he had any contact with health services or a Social Worker.

Yes, I agree. As well, I imagine that the police have followed up with him - if they were able to locate him.
If he receives any kind of govt payment into his bank account they may know of his history (whatever that might be).
The police will also know if he has any kind of record for disturbances and the like.
The publicity about him may be more harmful than helpful, with regard to finding him.

The next episode of the podcast is now up. Episode 5: The cliffs

The cliffs

"The tracks and fishing spots around the lighthouse have got their own names.
'The Wire', 'Matterhorn', 'Stepping Stones', 'Groper', 'The Chair', 'Suicides'."

"The only time Robert went down 'Suicides' was with a mate who is a roofer. He'll never go again. His friend had to carry the rods and all the fish back. 'Yep, I've had a friend at school's father tumble down after 50 years of fishing there. But he fell down and hit his head. And we've had brain damage from that.' "

Ok well here we go again. After listening to #5 I’m now leaning towards him attempting the goat tracks and falling, just like Connor.

The problem is that he had to have been with someone, at least from the oval to the beach, and that person is a ghost.

Such a sad, sad story. :(
The local searches are almost over.
David Murray doesn't think the homeless community know anything.
People say that if Theo was on the rocks, a swell could have easily washed him off.
Theo's dad says it is so different there at night.

I think it's possible that he was with someone. I think it's probable that he met or had contact with someone.
The best we can hope for is that 'someone' comes forward and provides information.

If Theo was with anyone, it sounds as if it could have been a person from the park.
The homeless guy seems to be discounted, due to his personal care and appearance being so radically different from Theo.

I guess that it is possible that Theo heard about the (Saturday) night doof party while at the bbq, and thought it was on Friday night and tried to make his way there.

There's a lot of criticism of the 'search team' in Podcast #5 from George Maloukis.
I'm going in to bat for them because I think it's relevant regarding how thorough the search has been. It's been meticulous with the physical searches well planned and mapped. Other than those mentioned, there are a lot of others who have done the best they can and have put in a lot of effort.
These are 'ordinary' people.
I'm trying to work out exactly what the specific training and background of George Maloukis is when he states that experienced people like him should have been used more. I can't find any such info. Does anyone know?

They’re appreciated and recognised beyond words. Let’s not continue with this topic as it (if I recall correctly) caused this thread to be shut down for quite some time (as in weeks) earlier on.
I don’t know if it’d be different now that the person you refer to is a part of the podcast? Anyway just a friendly suggestion to be cautious.
