Sounds as though it was a stealthy arrest ... staged at 6am Friday morning.

Police in New Delhi said in a statement that Singh was arrested in Delhi at 6am local time on Friday ....

(Police commissioner) Carroll said “scant details” on the lead-up to the arrest and more information would come to light in coming days, including whether the $1m reward would be claimed.

“If it has led to this person’s arrest, I will happily write out that cheque myself,” she said.

The information given to police, after the appeal on the four year anniversary, was in relation to the religious sect Singh was allegedly living with.
9News understands there was a tip-off he was travelling to a doctor's appointment and that's when police locally swooped on his vehicle

If there is one thing to be thankful for today. it is that this beautiful young woman and her family will finally get justice.

There is an arrest photo of Singh in this article. It seems that he was arrested by police from "Special Cell, Delhi Police". He is handcuffed to two of them, one on either side.
(Just realised that this photo does not show the handcuffs, but the same photo in this paywalled Courier Mail article does show the handcuffs .... The main suspect in the murder of Cairns woman Toyah Cordingley has been arrested in New Delhi. SEE THE FIRST PICTURES )

It says that he will remain in custody and will be back in court on Wednesday when Aussie authorities are expected to apply for his extradition.

He certainly changed his appearance.

A man suspected of the 2018 murder of Cairns woman Toyah Cordingley has been transferred to an Indian prison where he will remain in custody before appearing before a New Delhi court next week.

After appearing in a Dehli court, Mr Singh has been taken to Tihar prison — the largest prison complex in South Asia — where he will remain in custody until his next court appearance before an Indian court on November 30.

Queensland man Wayne "Prong" Trimble, who has been speaking on behalf of Ms Cordingley's family, said both the alleged murder and recent arrest had sent shockwaves across the Cairns community.

"We are absolutely over the Moon at the moment. We're still taking it all in," Mr Trimble said.

"We've been at this for years now, so the end might be coming for this part of the chapter anyway."

New photos have revealed the startling transformation of a male nurse suspected of killing Toyah Cordingley in north Queensland more than four years ago.

Police in Delhi have now shared a photo of the suspect, showing him sporting a turban and long white-streaked beard.

His appearance is completely different to photos that circulated of him after Toyah's death in 2018.

Behind a paywall, I think.

Paraphrasing.

Singh was "ambushed" by police on his way to a doctors appointment.
Suspect bank card activity lead them to where he was hiding.

The reward flushed him out from the religious sect that was protecting him.

A tip came in that he was on his way to a Drs appointment.

Found bank accounts in the Punjab region were being used by Singh family members, the owners of the bank accounts were still in Australia, and money was being withdrawn overseas.

After the reward was announced, a member of the public contacted police with a photo of Singh at a local temple.
Singh went further into hiding.

Til the tip came in that Singh was being driven to a doctors appointment the next day.
Police were provided with another photo of Singh, plus a photo of his Queensland drivers license which he had kept.

Then the arrest, when the car he was in was pulled over,

There is another new Courier Mail article that says .... (paraphrased)

The prison where Singh is now residing has over 2½ times the number of inmates of its actual capacity
Hence, the inmate population is difficult to monitor
There are reports of inmate fighting, but the guards say it is "manageable"
Singh has not been given court permission for any particular dietary requirements, so he will eat "according to the jail manual".
What life is like for Toyah Cordingley suspect in notorious Indian jail

A different article about the jail (from India Today) says that the prison has over 17,500 inmates, is maximum security, and has mobile phone signal jammers and xray body scanners.

"In November 2021, the Supreme Court said it is a "sorry state of affairs" in Tihar Jail, which has turned into a den of criminals where killings were taking place."
How gangsters are operating from inside Delhi’s Tihar Jail

I have no doubts that it is him, after looking at all the recent photos and comparing them to the ones before, including those from the airport as he was leaving.

Toyah Cordingley, 24, was killed on Wangetti Beach in Queensland after her dog barked at the attacker police said.

It is believed Singh went to the beach following a fight with his wife.

He told cops he was carrying fruits and a kitchen knife at the time.

"Police said anyone who helped or hid Singh, including anyone who gave him money while he was on the run, could face charges."

I wonder who was giving Singh money. On Ch7 News this morning, they said his wife never spoke of her husband (since he ran) but always followed Toyah's case in the papers. I am not sure how they know that.

I wonder if his father ever returned to Australia, after following Singh overseas.

An earlier article said that Singh family members who still live in Australia, had bank accounts in their name or names in India.

I haven't heard if the father came back to Australia or not
