I thought even if you had no coverage you could ring 121 or 112 or some short number which is an ‘emergency’ emergency number? But I guess that’s also assuming she had a mobile with her. (And that anyone in dire circumstances would have the presence of mind to dial that) I keep hoping to hear a news report of ‘arrest made’...
There is a misconception that 112 calls will be carried by satellite if there is no mobile coverage. Satellite phones use a different technology and your mobile phone cannot access a satellite network.

Important – if there is no mobile coverage on any network, you will not be able to reach the Emergency Call Service via a mobile phone, regardless of which number you dialled.

Ah ok, thanks...well that is good to know (I guess!)

I was thinking the mobile phone reception could be used for tracking purposes (even if it was too weak to make a voice call).

Makes me think it’s kind of the perfect spot for an ambush really. In this day and age with CCTV cameras and drones and dash cams, mobile phone with GPS data etc makes it hard for the average criminal types to get away with stuff like they used to.

Had such a busy work day I am catching up on what I have missed!

I wonder if the individual knew it was a dead zone. It would have been an interesting idea to look at footprints and even a tracking dog but I wonder if they did this?

It was a long way to go, I mentioned earlier in the thread, I wonder why Wangetti? Perhaps it was a favourite, she agreed to meet someone there or as mentioned if it was a mid-way point for her and the bf.

You would have to think that Wangetti Beach was a place Toyah frequented for her parents to search there the next day.

From what we've read her mother found the dog and her father found her.

Early Monday morning, in the dunes of the quiet Queensland beach, Mr Cordingley found his daughter’s body.

I wonder if Toyah’s injuries were from being hit by a car. Have the results of the PM come in yet?
I wonder, if she were hit by the car, the men would need to wash the blood off - & would need access to a hose or water. (plenty of water at the beach!). Was it determined there was a functional rest stop/toilet block here? I did read some mentions about it... is there one?

was toyahs killer at the markets?

Cairns murder investigation: police widen hunt for killer after body found on beach
Investigators have now extended their search for evidence beyond the isolated beach north to Port Douglas and south to Cairns.

Detective Inspector Sonia Smith said officers were looking into Cordingley’s visit to Rusty’s Markets on Sheridan Street in Cairns on Sunday before she went to the beach.

“If anybody has spoken to her at that location, please come forward,” she told reporters on Tuesday.

On the hypothesis that Toyah's killer was at the markets, this leads to three main possibilities :

1) Toyah was possibly sighted and stalked from the markets to the beach . Take into consideration that she collected the dog in between the markets and the beach.

2) Toyah possibly was sighted and stalked at the markets; Person stalking overhears Toyah telling someone in conversation that she was going to take her dog to the beach later, in general friendly chatter. Person stalking decides to go to beach upon hearing this.

3) Toyah possibly stalked at markets, witnessed getting into her car then the killer recognises the car at or passing the beach carpark later.

___

All of the above are purely theories / speculation / IMO. I do not exclusively believe that Toyah's killer ( or killers) were necessarily at the markets, nor can it be ruled out.
