1. School age
2. At an age with capacity to communicate with others about his concerns
1. Yes, school age. At least next year if NZ is anything like NSW. Children have to enrol for lessons at school or for home-schooling by the latest in the first term of the year they turn six.
2. Honestly, crabby; I don't know. I was separated from my parents at around the same age and apart from one or two flickering mental 'film frames' of my Mum, in particular, and one of my foster mothers (who had a young son I remember nothing about), everything else is 'black' during that time. I'm not even sure I remembered my own name. As an adult, I have learned that early childhood trauma such as being separated from your caregivers can have an effect on a young mind.
