Actually, I take this back. Human compassion isn’t conditional. I have compassion for his damaged inner child if, indeed, he is guilty of abducting William and putting him in situation where he may have been or is still being neglected and/or abused.
I DO NOT however condone adults who perpetrate, or aid in, the exact same (or greater) neglect and/or abuse of other children, no matter what level of neglect and/or abuse a person may have experienced in their own childhood, under any circumstances. If they themselves were neglected and/or abused as children, they must be able to at least imagine how the same neglect and/or abuse would impact another child. No matter the reasoning or level of compulsion/desire, no child deserves to be treated like this. Past, present or future.
