It has been mentioned here (an MSM link or court case link, I forget which) that William was known by his foster parents last name in his day to day life.

  • #742
Maybe that has changed somehow then if they publicised the call in this case?

Nothing has changed. Read the links. The foster parents could consent to the call info being released in certain situations. That is why I said 'more at link'.

He may have been known by their name, but to change a name you have to go through a legal process.

Children's Name Change

There are many legal matters and ramifications of changing the name of a child (person under 18 years of age). We recommend you contact your local Registry of Births Deaths and Marriages for further information on the process for changing a child's name. You may also need to contact a solicitor who specialises in Family Law. Links to each state's Registry of Births Deaths and Marriages is on the right hand side of this page.

I am not debating that point with you, Karinna. I simply said that he was known/went by his foster parents last name. That's all.

However it’s understood these visits were infrequent and that William identified his foster family as his parents and was known to the public by their surname (which can’t be disclosed) and not “Tyrrell”.

I haven't listened to the 000 call in a while, but isn't that the call where William was named as William Tyrrell? Some of us thought that was unusual as that wasn't the (sur)name William went by.
And who would have ever known at the time that the case of a little missing boy would turn into such a huge case, where the 000 call would be publicised.

Yes that was something that stood out in my mind.

  • #747
I’m guessing William was perhaps still legally known as Tyrell until final adoption was in place , hence why she named him as that in 000 call.

  • #748
At such a young age he probably wouldn’t have understood . He was with the ff since he was a mere 7 months old so undoubtedly he would see them as his parents .

Well that was my question. Who did William think his biological parents were? How confusing for a little boy, IMO.
When would they have told him the truth? Possibly as he grew older? He was just over 3 yrs. old before he went missing, and if he was still having those infrequent visits with bio family ? as i said how confusing for him.

Yes agree, if she did that. Don't know about adoption plans because biological parents have to sign legal paperwork for that and have to agree to the adoption legally which i doubt would happen?

Yes may have been confusing. I’m sure it would be in thousands of cases like these. Regardless I don’t think it makes any difference to how he disappeared.

Will try to find a link if there is one but I believe that it was said they were in process of adopting and Williams placement was said to be permanent . Will have a look, could have just been speculation on here .

From what i recall there was a legal process going on between KT & the FP's as to custody of WT's sibling.

Yes there are many fostered children in the system, and i would think as a foster carer they are taught how to go about those situations and what is the best way to deal with certain situations as they arise. I would hope so anyway as to what is in the best interests of the child.
If it did in fact have anything to do with WT's disappearance i don't know, and wouldn't like to say with any 100 percent certainty.

I wouldn't think there would be any reason to edit a 000 call? Usually it's a response of "what's your emergency?, what's your address?", and to send police & or ambulance if necessary, and to get someone there asap.
Other details are usually given to first responders once on the scene.

probably not, but from memory, the call seemed a bit calm and not that of a frantic distraught mother whose been searching everywhere for her little boy, just little things, it made me wonder if it was redone and censored for the public to hear?
no reason, just a feeling

Justice Paul Brereton revealed that William's foster parents had applied last year to the Children's Court for sole parental responsibility for his sister,

So many children use names other than their birth name in day to day life and continue that in to adult life.

In fact

A person I know used her step fathers name from 4 years of age. When she was to marry the name that we all knew her by was not the name on her birth certificate.
The minister used the name she was known by during the service but she had to sign her birth name on the certificate.

BBM, They must have a very strong constitution IMO to go after sole custody of WT's sibling IMO. Put yourself in those shoes, there is no way i personally could do that. I think i would of had a breakdown after all of that with WT. So good luck to them IMO.

Karinna you have no idea of what they were the ff were going through, I can't imagine it . "So good luck to them" really what does that mean.
