Why would a washing machine repair man turn his phone off? Doesn't want business calls during the day? There would be no plausible reason.

Yes true and he would also be expecting a call from #48

As an aside he was in the twilight of his working yrs, reported as a dole recipient and also helping raise 3 sporty boys. He may not have been a work chaser.

It forms a bigger picture of why it might be him. No one has implied they will get him on turning his phone off.

But mention was made that his records for FGM have been deleted in the morning.

The whole combination of activity reconciled with alibis against the crime timeline.

IMO you'd silence the phone and let it take voice mail messages

I could give him the benefit of the doubt if no one saw him at coffee shop, but not if no one saw him at the school assembly, these were parents of his grandchildren friends, who he probably saw regularly at sporting events etc.
Lol the grandchildren were probably excited to see grandparents there, one could probably say exactly where they sat. Big flag if not one remembered seeing grandad.
How many people were actually at this assembly?
Unless it was very riveting, probably lots of parents were doing more people watching than listening to assembly.

Because I believe everything Col said...:D

I am wondering why it took BS himself so long to remember he was having coffee and at the school assembly.

Mr Spedding and his wife then attended a presentation across the road at Laurieton Primary School, where one of the grandchildren was receiving an award.
Investigators were not aware of this detail before they questioned Mr Spedding this week, Mr Youngberry said.

Same reason he'd delete phone calls.

Up to no good.

Try and hide all evidence that would punch holes in the statement and the crime timeline.

Washing machine repair man uses card machine at tiny cafe for small purchase.

Mobile business in the country attempts mobile EFTPOS transaction with sim card, not. Cash $$$

IMO you'd silence the phone and let it take voice mail messages

Being a business person, missing a call can be half a days wage

For non business people, it doesnt really matter.

Why would a washing machine repair man release his own u-tube video?

Why would you want to promote your business by allowing 'peddos' to be emblazed across the work van for God knows how long?

FGM tried to ring him remember. Records not there. That would be on record somewhere.

"I need the washing machine fixed, I have family coming?". 6 degrees of separation on that one

No, FM rang him the morning WT disappeared, on what phone we don't know. When were the call logs deleted and how many, we don't know. Is there record on his phone of him deleting phonecalls before, we don't know. Is he under the impression call logs take up memory, we don't know.....

I reckon that was a prime target for any kid.

To control exactly the statement you want to make, without any interference from the media. They have not been his friend.

So, through crimestoppers and passed onto police. After understanding what crimestoppers is, I would highly recommend where at all possible, police be contacted 1st hand and receive an event number for reporting, so as to be able to follow anything up transparently. Crimestoppers is certainly a highly advantageous tool for the police, hell, if they had a hunch about anything, they could anonymously ring crimestoppers themselves and then follow up. MOO

So when was crimestoppers the number the public were asked to call. Presumably when the police decided it was a crime and not a lost child.

Paul Fehon in those early interviews did say "If anyone had any information if they could ring through on 000."

It's rare I have cash on me anymore, I'd use a card to pay for a coffee.

If there is a record of a call to him on the Friday morning missing from his phone, then there must also have been a record of the initial call to him requesting a quote. If only the calls on the morning of the 12th are missing and not the call from the initial quote request, it looks less suspicious imo.

I think OlÇol said BS was at the cafe because he had the receipt to prove it. If it was paid for by card, Mags could have had the card.
Who keeps coffee receipts anyway, it's not claimable for tax which makes it sus anyway.

Also, some schools don't allow photos or videos being taken but surely there would be someone allowed to take some record of the assembly which may capture a grey head sitting there. Surely you'd say hello to their teacher who helped achieve the award. There should be heaps of witnesses.

You're not a country white goods repair man, C.O.D.

When did police ask questions of the school and parents? was it in January? (school holidays) 4 months later?

It was only a fortnightly assembly not a special occasion from my reckoning. I have a vague idea of who are the regulars at assemblies but beyond that nothing.

Would you note the attendance of the washing repair man in a small town?
