Welcome, infocus.
I'm open to hearing all theories. Admittedly the FPs' stories are inconsistent but I personally think the police have been instructing them on what to say.
As for BS, from what I remember he wasn't due to be at the house that day. I believe the police saw on phone records that he called the grandmother that morning to check if she was home because apparently the spare part had arrived early.
Multiple sources say otherwise .... here are two.
Also, police have made no statements about the phone records. Just he says/she says by other people.
"He (son, Rodney Spedding) says his father was due to go to William’s grandmother’s house on the day William disappeared, to fix her washing machine ..... He says his father told him that he phoned the grandmother to say he would not be coming to fix the washing machine."

"The same day, police sources say Mr Spedding had been due to return to that address with a part after giving a quote for repair work on September 9."
