This was said by Dr Olav Nielssen because once in a decade a thrill killer or sexual deviant or some other
bizarre circumstance comes along.
A very strange, unusual circumstance. Something out of the typical realm of crimes against children.
William’s disappearance is a “once in a decade crime”, according to Dr Olav Nielssen, a psychiatrist from the University of NSW who has studied juvenile homicides. More than half the children who are murdered die from violent abuse. Around a quarter are killed by psychotic parents or guardians. Ten to fifteen per cent of deaths are the result of teenagers fighting. And then there are the drug-addled parents who give their children methadone to help them sleep.
Once, every decade or so, “a child is abducted by some sexual deviant, or thrill killer, or in some other bizarre circumstance,” Nielssen says. These murders are extremely rare.

Yes i think most people think they are pretty safe raising their kids in neighbourhoods where they have lived for a while and got to know their neighbours. And mostly our kids in such circumstances are safe.
The problem in William's case is that he was not in a familiar place and not normally where he would be, in his usual daily home environment.
I think the big question is who would of known about the surprise visit to FGM and that the foster family were actually there with the kids?
From what we know WT wasn't even there for 24 hrs. before he mysteriously disappeared. Very perplexing IMO, as to who could of possibly had the opportunity to take him?
hi Karinna, I think you raise really valid points.
I personally struggle with the whole ' in the moment abduction' in regards to William, and lean more towards a planned abduction - though please don't e erroneous jump on me for the Who, Why & How ( I don't know & if I did, we'd have it solved by now
I do wonder if it was originally intended as as a 'ransom' from some of the 'who knows how far reaching' associates in & out of prison of his BD - not in any way casting any judgement on Brendan, I just pray for him & his strength as his heart breaks for his son; similarly I do for Karlie. They've been through losing their kids - but at the end of the say they knew they were safe.
This situation with William - the pain is beyond comprehension for these people. .. for his biological parents, for his foster parents, and all the extended people in his life...
Forgive me Dr Olav ( and I don't mean this dis -respectfully) but I don't feel inclined to give notariety to those responsible for William ( once in a decade was it )... SCUM is SCUM you know - in a day, a week, a month or a decade - SCUM never changes... and IMO those with any hint of Williams fate would be advised to make at the very least an anonymous poste to Crime Stoppers because it's my belief that when the Bell Tolls, they will all be judged equally ( given the extreme fair warnings).
The bell is ringing .. God Bless you little man, justice will be served.
